Mass Effect Andromeda

jeeze how did I miss the mordin thing? Maybe he didn't survive from ME2 for me? Is he alive by default if you make a new story?

I think that if you take a default ME3 start, you get the suckiest options, just like you do with a default ME2 start. Try using the Arrival/Genesis story generation DLCs.

I don't think you get the truly suckiest options, in that I think most of the ME2 squadmates are alive. It's just the story elements surrounding those squadmates are less than optimal.

The Mordin ME2 --> ME3 storyline is one of the best in the game, so I'd recommend playing it out rather than looking at spoilers! If you play it right (or wrong?), it has some of the best moments in the entire series.

Yea my bad. I kind of assumed that people had either played it or knew what happened.

From what i have seen so far of MEA, i have to say that the facial expressions and animations look god awful. Which really isnt cool for a AAA title. I also think the day 1 DLC rubbish is just usual EA bull. However, i think the open environments look really good. And i actually like the direction they seem to have taken with the combat. I always thought it was a bit weird and stale that you could pause mid battle. Seems to make sense if you can simplify it a bit and rely on the AI using powers in your place (this was an option in previous titles anyway).

I also dont understand all this SJW stuff. There have been gay characters in most bioware games. So i dont see whats the big problem here. It seems that people can forgive a poorly written hetrosexual character. But when they are gay and badly written all of a sudden its a big deal. For me life is simple - Good writing > Bad writing. Whether the character is gay or not makes little to no difference (unless its incredibly obtuse and the game is based around the fact they are gay). What was it CS Lewis said - something like good story should be the centre piece of everything. And the characters fit in around and contribute to it. The moment you move away from this and make the story to fit in around a character, is the moment you lose the audience (or something like that).

Like others, im going to wait for an uber sale or something. I loved the trilogy, and wasnt that scarred by all the bad vibes that exist over 3. So it might be a similar story here with MEA.

I think without imported saves you get a start with most major characters alive. Wrex is dead if you didn't finish ME2 with a ME1 save where he was alive. Not sure about the others.
However, standard starts have no completed sidequest and the best resolutions for the Mordin/Krogan and Quarian/Geth sories are only possible if you completed Mordin's, Tali's and Legion's loyalty missions on ME2 in specific ways. That's what made the series so much better than the sum of its parts until it was time to choose between red, blue and green explosions.

Yeah I know my save from me2 jack and samara were definitely dead. They got eaten by some bee swarm thing on that last kill the reaper mission cus they weren't loyal enough. Even though I did their loyalty missions. Weird.

I just don't remember mordin being in my me3 playthrough which is really strange cus I defintiely did all his stuff in me2. I do remember curing the genophage, just not the mordin part but hey that was 4 years and 2 kids ago, I've forgotten some things!

In mine I lost grunt, jack and legion in the suicide mission. Jack was because I wanted to bone Miranda and not her and I couldn't get my paragon score high enough to win her back. The other 2 were wrong choices I think. And in 3 I chose the geth over quarians. I always considered the Quarians to basically be willing to commit total genocide, which I was not cool with, despite the fact I thought Tali was hot. I didn't think she would kill herself though

how can you think a character with no face is attractive lol. Yeah same deal for me with jack. Jack was a weird one cus you could do her without a relationship, I think it was one of the renegade options, and doing so would make it harder to make her loyal, at least I think. Her dialogue choices were hard to figure out how to make her loyal. It's probably the one part of the game I don't like, having this point system so you can't respond how you want, you have to pick left or right side and stick to it to get them high enough. I think if you just do their missions that ought to be good enough.

I agree. I didn't like how all the options and also the best options were only unlocked if you went 100% renegade or paragon.

I'm replaying the trilogy now (ME1 has the worst gunplay ever :mad:), and I have to say I forgot how much better it feels to have the command HUD. It makes me sad they removed it in Andromeda, here's to hoping it comes back in Andromeda II.

Im not a massive fan of the hud. I think it disrupts the flow of the game.

And in ME1, i have to say that i HATE the Makro. Its god awful.

I'm not much of a FPS player, so I really liked the stop/start combat in ME. Makes it far easier to combo powers - hotkeys are far harder to co-ordinate. So it's a shame that the HUD has been removed, particularly if you're meant to have more access to different powers now.

If you bring up the weapon/consumable wheel, it pauses the action. You have access to as many powers as you're prepared to learn, but you can only use three at any given time.

It is so satisfying to dome a champion enemy with a sniper rifle to remove his shields using Adrenaline Rush, then have a squadmate use Pull to neutralize them, followed by a switch to the shotgun to finish them off. You can't really do that in Andromeda, it is way more focused on how well you can shoot. Which, is not necessarily bad, but isn't as deep as ME 2 and 3.

Im in the school of thought that when you represent combat, you should either go full turn based or full realtime. Pausing is a sort of halfway house cop out. And it also isnt very realistic. Even in games like Skyrim I think it’s a bit weird. I could never understand why, when I was in the midst of a battle, I could suddenly stop and eat 20 salmon steaks to regain all my health. Its immersion breaking.

When I'm about to use my biotic powers to throw a mass effect field at an enemy and lift them off their feet, I'm quite happy to accept that my reality is such that I'm perfectly capable of pausing briefly to take stock.

Fair comment :D

ME3 has more or less killed my interest in the serie, and Bioware has steadily declined in quality since it's been bought by EA.
As such, I had very little interest in MEA to begin with. It seems that it's even worse than I anticipated.

So meh. Not even going to bother with getting it for free, unless there is news of very big improvements (which is doubtful).

Your loss. It's not Mozart by any means, but it's large and expansive frequently quite gripping.
