A decent respect for the opinions of mankind requires an answer from the proud, if small and stupid, Iroquois. We were, we think, first to discover writing. So, we understood well when the Romans moved units into our land and issued this ultimatum,
"My scribes have told me that the peace treaty between us has run out. I wish to extend that peace treaty. I offer you my hand for a period of no less than 50 turns so that we may co-exist in this world together. If not, it appears as if our two nations will plunge into war."
The Iroquois responded with a counter offer to simply extend the peace deal, no limits attached. The Romans insisted on 50 turns and the Iroquois did not respond again, simply letting their actions respond in the game.
In 50 turns, we agree, the Romans would have made short work of our poor civ, cornered in a near-useless patch of ground and surrounded by the much more numerous Roman cities. All we ask is the chance to die like men
