[MoO] Master of Orion 2 unofficial patch

try creating new LANGUAGE.INI in root of moo2 folder, write 2 in it and see what happens.
it could work, or not. (i don't have steam myself)

To play french version in steam you need to:

1. change language to french in steam library
2. reinstall the patch

For 1: right-click master of orion 2 in steam library -> preferences and search for language setting in some tab, set to French, press ok, steam should update the game. Run the game, make sure it's in French now. You don't need to change language.ini, because steam will create proper language.ini after doing this.

For 2 just reinstall the patch. It is needed because step 1 will overwrite patched ORION2.EXE.

Rocco.40.Thank you for the tips. Once I created a LANGUAGE.ini file with 2 inside and launched game, it indicated multiple files missing . especially french one.
So, steam MAC version only download english version. I picked up the missing fr files from another place then copy/past them the game folder and it is ok for now (only species contact text still english, but all other texts are french.)
Thank you for help.

Alex/150: it is weird because my steam library preference is french but game downloaded alway in english version (I tried plenty of time with changing install folder but no success.)

Hello, again. New issue, if someone could help me. It had been weeks since I played MOO2 until the other night. Prior to recently playing, Windows 10 had a pretty big update, I've updated my graphics card drivers, and replaced my DVI cable with an HDMI cable for my monitor. So, there are a few variables that could be causing this issue. The issue is that the game is no longer displaying properly. Instead of keeping the 4:3 aspect ratio while in full screen mode, it stretches the image to fit my 1920x1080 resolution. I messed with the dosboxMOO2.conf file to fix that, but now things look more pixelated than they used to. The second half of the issue is that the game now appears darker. No monitor settings have been changed, and no other programs seem affected. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for getting this back the way they were? Please let me know. Thanks!

Edit: Oh, and I did try uninstalling/reinstalling the game using the GOG file, and did not apply the 1.50 patch to it. Still had this issue.

- 4:3 or stretching in full screen is usually set by your monitor.
- pixelation can be caused by the 'output' setting in DOSBox config.
This last setting can easily be changed with the new Launcher that is part of 1.50.8.

Installed 1.50.8 manually (oldschool method lol). Otherwise, default settings, and by using the launcher, I was still having a dark screen and image stretching. Had to modify some .cfg files to get things looking the way I like it, which is 4:3 and no so dark. Other than that, going to have to give the other mods a shot. Oh, and when using the launcher I selected the option for all home systems have 5 planets, but that didn't take effect. Might have missed an additional setting, like one of the mods.

Wow.

I'm amazed at what you guys have done here. MOO2 is timeless enough that I dusted it off while experiencing some enforced convalescence. I was pleasantly surprised that it's gotten quite an update! Haven't had a chance to experiment with everything, yet, but just wanted to communicate my profound appreciation.

Wonder how many of the old tricks will have to be relearned...

Hi guys! I have been playing in MOO2 for quite a long time. Latest mods were amazing, but not the 1.50.8. I actually cannot use it at all.

Specially for old-school games I use authentic hardware, EEEPC laptop, which is good for Windows XP, or even DOS. All versions normally worked without DOSbox or any other simulations, while this 1.50.8 required DOSbox for installation, and after all does not even show run button button on its menu screen. Do I really need DOSbox for this version? Is there any way just to replace old files and play, like other mods do?

1. What OS do you have on EEE? To my knowledge windows XP is not suitable for MOO2 and windows 9x can't run launcher. If XP, were you successful in playing moo2 in it previously?

2. How much RAM do you have? 1.50.x requires more RAM than classic, about 20Mb should suffice but 31Mb is better.

3. Have you tried "oldschool alternative" section from MOO2.1.50.8/README_150.TXT? It describes how to copy files, and then you need to run ORION150.EXE. (It assumes you do it via dosbox, but you can run directly)

1. Windows XP SP3.
I normally played in all versions of MOO2, from the original with patches and up to Ice mode, they work even now, but not the 1.50.8. I usually had issues after exiting the game, like BSOD on one laptop and broken palette of desktop on another. But all MOOs were working good.
2. I have Asus EEE PC 4G with 1 Gb RAM and Celeron 900 Mhz processor, which I prefer to use on 600 Mhz for MOO2 because game speed on this frequency is more natural.

3. Even oldschool section says that I need Dosbox.

3. Update your DOSBox configuration files to run ORION150.EXE.

That was my initial question - do I really need Dosbox?

After manual copying files from update I found that they were already copied by update. After all I tried to run ORION150.exe and got cmd window with following (shortly):
info.lbx is missing
credits.lbx is missing
diplomse.lbx is missing

Other languages also won`t work...
Press any key...

3. you don't need dosbox, will clarify readme.

Are those lbxs present in orion2 directory?

Edit: btw is it an original CD version or steam or gog version or else?

Great job here! OK Rocco, so let me understand as I want to get back to playing this game on my new computer. I want the challenge of ICE 15X. So all I have to do is to DL the game from GOG and then DL and install patch 1.50.8 and that will automatically come along with the patch and then I just use the launcher to play ICE 15X.

I forgot what change I need to make to basically eliminate AI surrender. ie set it so it can't surrender prior to T 999.

Great job getting the AI's to research useful hyper advanced techs!

Thanks!
Yes, ICE gets installed with patch now, installation goes with GUI launcher (new method).

For the AI surrender:
Via "Edit" in Launcher, open USER.CFG and add the line:
ai_surrender_delay = 150; # Turn after which AI's can surrender their Empires.
Change it with your preferred number of turns, save file & launch game!

Ok, i think i know. Do you use CD version with some files left on CD? Just copy info.lbx, credits.lbx and diplomse.lbx to game directory then, should solve it.

A friend made this comment about your patch:
"Does it fix the Stellar Converter crash? Too many ships with Stellar Converters and you fire it off and boom goes the game. If they've fixed that I'm in."

So... has your patch fixed this issue?

if you can provide a save with such crash, we can take a look.
haven't heard of it before.

we just released a patch for the Launcher that fixes this issue.

Probably that was the issue. I made a fresh install from CD, applied patch 1.31, 1.50.8, copied sufficient files from ICE version, and it works now.
As far as I do not have a launcher, is there any way to launch all those new modes? Because what I have got by running ORION150.exe looks stable, but not as difficult and interesting as ICE mode.

imo you are making life somewhat hard for yourself. :)
but if you really want to do things manually, we even have basic instruction in the readme file.
note that readme mentions "To change enabled mods without the Launcher you'll have to edit 150/ENABLE.CFG manually."
