Matthewthegreat's RPC: Montezuma the religious leader!

Finish the game. My experience is my early RPC games were not as followed that much but they grew more popular as time went on.

I respond infrequently by try to follow them, as you are aware posting a game takes a certian amount of time and I generally play a segment everyday.

Regarding your game.

1) AS I understand, All Ais need to have the state religion. Also my guess is ISabella is in theocracy, so you know what that means :trouble:
2) Take nationalism and build the Taj for the free GA, follow it up with another GA if you have a GP available.
3) Finish off SB. First things first.
4) Beeline astronomy/chemistry and send privateers to blockade Louis and Isabella
weakening them.
5) Tech towards rifling.
6) Spread your religion to Liz/Louis/Isabella, but only one city i fpossible. Gift a caravel with a missionary if needed.

Question: Are you planning to keep HC alive, or are you going to clear off the continent first? My guess is if you do you may come close to domination before burning the heathen lands.

Intercontinetal warfare
Can come two times as I see it here.

A) Drafted/whipped rifles and cavalry with heavy collateral support. Since you have the AP, I think you need to raze the Hindu and Judaist cities. If they are coastal and you have naval superiority then I suggest you bring ALOT of seige engines, attack from the galleons to damage the defender, and take and raze the cities from the ships. You may land the force IF there is a forrest nearby.

B) Tech through industrialism and bring ALOT of artillery or cannons and a good mic of marines and tanks. USe the marines for amphibious attacks after reducing the defenses with battleship barrages. Use you tanks as attack forces for internal cities if you need.

You are far ahead in tech, or will be after liberalism. Consolidate the main continent, then attack the other from a position of power.

Good Luck.

Great! thanks I didn't think any one was following this RPC so I will definitely Finish it.

I had not thought of grabing nationalism but that is a very good idea!

as far as HC goes I have no plans on killing him, right now he is a hindrance, but if voting for himself was not a option I think he would vote for me. so if I do not think a AP is possible he would be a invaluable friend once the UN is built.

I think first thing next round is to get a map to see the size of Isabella, where the holy cities are ect.

I think I will try to play and post the next round latter today.

1395AD - 1510AD

techs: education > part of liberalism

1395AD Very good!!! I got a map!

Civ4ScreenShot0089.jpg

1400AD :hmm: Isabella only controls one city look like she will be easy to take out :trouble:

Civ4ScreenShot0090.jpg

Look at that! Madrid is a double holy City that means if I raze that I have razed all three holy cities and not only that but it is the only holy city on the coast.

Civ4ScreenShot0091.jpg

Here is Germany the AI we have not meet. Latter we find out the leader is Frederick

Civ4ScreenShot0092.jpg

We make this trade

Civ4ScreenShot0093.jpg

And this trade

Civ4ScreenShot0094.jpg

And we get a prophet which we start a GA.

1405AD Monty was happy to see this!

Civ4ScreenShot0095.jpg

1430AD LOL!!! A demand from a one city civ?? Monty really wants to kill her!
We told her to go away.

Civ4ScreenShot0096.jpg

1440AD we discovered that the world was round.

1445AD we meet Frederick.

1450AD unfortunately our GA is over. We signed a Open Borders with Fred and spread Confucianism to Liz

1455AD we built the University of Sankore the first wonder we built that uses stone.

Civ4ScreenShot0097.jpg

We spread Confucianism to Fred

1495AD Islam founded in Orleans and We spread Confucianism to Louis.

1505AD Louis declared war on Liz

1510AD This is where I saved. First thing next turn we start the war with SB again. Here is the stack we are going to go after SB with

Civ4ScreenShot0098.jpg

Religion:

Civ4ScreenShot0099.jpg

well all civs have my except Isabella but that's no problem because Monty will not be happy until she is gone.

We have to go to war with Louis because all the holy cities besides our holy city is in France so we will take out Isabella when we do that.

I think, after we raze Madrid and destroy Isabella, if I can get HC to switch to FR a AP will be easy because he will than only be a voting member. I will have to think about this.

:D Can't wait until the next war!

Here's a few recommendations I have for you:

  • War with Sitting Bull, but don't take forever. If you can't take out Sitting Bull ASAP, it's probably better to vassal him so he can vote for you and you can focus on razing Madrid.
  • Unlike what you mentioned, Louis XIV is quite aggressive and the fact that he's a creative AI means he will expand much faster, and research quicker, and so on. He also tends to have a large army -- thus my suggestion to not take too long warring against Sitting Bull (who with his totem-enhanced archers is a REAL pain to take on).
  • Spread Confucianism to every AI, but only minimally, which I think you're doing, so that's good.
  • Lastly, good luck! :D

Thanks for the tips! I think I will try to keep the SB war as short a possible but I can not take him as a vassal because that is against the rules to take vassals. SB only has 5-6 cities so it will be easy to keep it short.

I think Louis has a big army so I will try to keep the war with him short, just long enough to raze madrid and take Isabella's only city.

1510AD - 1590AD

I was hoping the SB war was going to be quick and I would get to finish off SB but the war didn’t go as hoped.

Techs: liberalism > part of gunpowder

1510AD WAR!!!

Civ4ScreenShot0100.jpg

1515AD this is the city screen just after we start the war. We have a lot of  Monty knows how to stop unhappy citizens :whipped:

Civ4ScreenShot0102.jpg

Louis asked us to go to war and we said no

Civ4ScreenShot0101.jpg

1520Ad Isabella asked us to go to war and said no

Civ4ScreenShot0103.jpg

1525AD we take Chaco Canyon and keep the city.

Civ4ScreenShot0104.jpg

1530AD Liz ask me to go to war I thought about saying no but I will have to make Louis mad sooner or latter, So why not war with Louis and then make peace again as soon as I can just to make Liz happy. We say yes and declare war on Louis

Civ4ScreenShot0105.jpg

1535AD This is where the war with SB stated to go bad. He takes Mesa Verda

Civ4ScreenShot0106.jpg

1550AD a few turns latter we take the city back but my power has dropped (I hate his archers!!!)

Civ4ScreenShot0107.jpg

1555AD We make this trade. Drama really helps with the happiness!

Civ4ScreenShot0113.jpg

1560AD SWEET!!! I got this great event! I take the merchant.

Civ4ScreenShot0108.jpg

1565AD we make peace

Civ4ScreenShot0109.jpg

1570AD we win the Liberalism race! I thought about it for a few seconds thinking should I take nationalism or astronomy. I decided to take nationalism and try to get the Taj Mahal.

Civ4ScreenShot0110.jpg

We make this trade

Civ4ScreenShot0112.jpg

1580AD we take Etowah

Civ4ScreenShot0114.jpg

1590AD I didn’t want to do this but I had to.

Civ4ScreenShot0115.jpg

He would have taken Chaco Canyon if I did not make peace. My military is very weak so I need to rebuild in the ten turns of peace then I will declare war again. As I said the war didn’t go as planed but we came out 2 cities ahead anyways.

1595AD first in this round Fred asks for theology and I give it to him

Civ4ScreenShot0116.jpg

1600AD we get a GE!!!

1615AD we use the GE to rush the Taj

Civ4ScreenShot0117.jpg

1620AD we make this trade

Civ4ScreenShot0118.jpg

1655AD we are the 3rd most powerful

Civ4ScreenShot0119.jpg

1660AD It’s time to finish the SB war

Civ4ScreenShot0120.jpg

Just after I started the war I thought my economy was looking bad but…

1665AD next turn my GA is over

1680AD we take SB capital city!!!

Civ4ScreenShot0121.jpg

1690AD Liz ask nicely for help so I give it to her

Civ4ScreenShot0122.jpg

Isabella did not ask nicely so I told her to go away

Civ4ScreenShot0123.jpg

1704AD we take this city and raze it

Civ4ScreenShot0124.jpg

1706AD we do this trade

Civ4ScreenShot0125.jpg

1708AD  a Incan revolt in Etowah so we start building cultural in that city

1714AD I took another city and kept it (I forgot the screen shot)

1716AD HC asked me to cancel deals with Fred. I didn’t want to but I need to keep HC happy so I accepted

1724AD we raze this city

Civ4ScreenShot0126.jpg

1734AD I was very unhappy to see that we lose the AP!

Civ4ScreenShot0127.jpg

1738AD Here is where I saved. We take Mound City

Civ4ScreenShot0128.jpg

City screen:

Civ4ScreenShot0129.jpg

Wow that is a lot of unhappiness.

So here is the big question:

Do I break a rule and vassal sitting bull?

SB only has one city left but it may take 5-10 turns before I can get my stack over there to take it.
My economy hanging by a thread, I’m at 10% science and I think if I let the war go on much longer I’m going to be hurting myself. The whole point of the no vassal rule was to stop a poor mans domination by UN/AP but I don’t think his one city is going to make that much difference.

If he has only a city left it's not worth breaking a rule. Finish him. Otherwise you may feel like you've cheated at the end of the game, and that would spoil your victory.

Getting rid of the "We yearn to join our motherland" unhappiness alone is worth it. And you don't want the diplo hit from having a vassal I guess. :)

good point! I had forgot about the diplo hit so I don't think it is worth it for a 1 city vassal.

What's the deal with increments of 5% in your research slider?

I mod the game so I have 5% increments. I forgot to turn it back to 10% when doing to online game.

Good game but your research rate in beakers per turn is atrocious for 1738AD. And your cities are tiny in size; your holy city is size 4 .. you must have whipped too much. I think you should beeline communism and adopt state property while cottaging as soon as your cities grow a bit.. Maybe when your army comes back to your territory, you'll be bleeding less gold. Your city maintenance must be high too.

Anyways, could you post the tech advisor, financial advisor and the power graph?!?

Communism should indeed be a priority. Killing the distance maintenance cost can be huge with a large empire. Finish Bull (he's a non-factor by now anyway), then look for a way to bring Louis down.

What is exactly the diplomatic situation right now? Is there a possibility of bribing someone into war against Louis and cause a dogpile?

State property is a must! I also think I’m going to need police state seeing that Louis has the SOZ.

I agree with around 110-130 beakers per turn in 1738AD is horrible! Hopefully I can regain a good economy after the SB war.

Here are the advisor screens:

1738AD - 1784AD

In this round my economy got so bad I was losing money at 0% science but I was able to save my economy and now things are doing good.

Tech: rifling > Communism

1738AD I got a GG

1740AD Gold was discovered near Matthew City!!!

1742AD HC declares war on Liz

1744AD we make this trade for a needed tech

Civ4ScreenShot0137.jpg

1750AD We make peace with SB  we take his last city and now SB is no more.
Notice at this point I’m at 0% science and losing 23 gold per turn  true I have 20% in culture but there is so much  but I lose more money by putting nothing into culture.

Civ4ScreenShot0139.jpg

Fred declares war on Louis

1752AD we adopt free market.

things are looking better!

Civ4ScreenShot0140.jpg

We get HC to make peace, sure it’s a high price but I didn’t want the diplo hits from not joining the war upon them asking me to.

Civ4ScreenShot0141.jpg

I noticed HC was pleased so I gave him a gift of 125 gold to make him friendly.

We give Liz bananas for pork

1754AD there was no way I was going to join the war

Civ4ScreenShot0144.jpg

We then give Fred wine for sugar

1760AD I thought about telling him to go away but I gave in to him

Civ4ScreenShot0146.jpg

I forgot the screen shot but we gave HC for rifling for SM and 110 gold I could have gotten a better from Louis but I didn’t want to give him rifling.

1766AD Liz went to war with Fred

I got a DP with HC

1768AD a GA was born!!!

1770AD I was afraid this city was going to flip to HC so I had my GA do a great work in the city to prevent it from flipping.

Civ4ScreenShot0147.jpg

1780AD strange things start to happen. First Isabella broke free from Louis. Then Fred capitulated to Louis.

1782AD we are the largest civilization!!!

Civ4ScreenShot0148.jpg

Isabella became a vassal of Liz

1784AD this is where I save.

My economy has improved a lot! This turn I finished Communism and adopted state property.

1796AD I’m back in the AP!!!

Civ4ScreenShot0154.jpg

1802AD we make this trade

Civ4ScreenShot0155.jpg

Just after that we switch to representation

1808AD Louis declared war on Liz

1810AD Fred wants me to go to war with Liz and I tell him no

Civ4ScreenShot0156.jpg

1816AD HC canceled our DP because he declared war on Liz then asked for chemistry so I gave it to him/

1818AD we make this trade

Civ4ScreenShot0157.jpg

1824AD I stopped the war between HC and Liz via AP

Civ4ScreenShot0158.jpg

1826AD This is where the game gets interesting Isabella breaks free and is now a free state. You Know what that means :trouble:

1832AD Isabella makes a foolish demand.

Civ4ScreenShot0159.jpg

Liz becomes a vassal of Louis

1834AD My ships where close to Isabella’s border so I thought it was now or never. So we declare war on Isabella

Civ4ScreenShot0160.jpg

Same turn we take and raze her only city

Civ4ScreenShot0161.jpg

Here is the victory screen:

Civ4ScreenShot0162.jpg

And the diplo screen:

Civ4ScreenShot0163.jpg

I have enough near Madrid to take a raze the city but as you can see I will have to declare war on Liz, Fred, and Louis. I have to raze that city but if I war with all three of them I will have a very, very small chance of getting a diplo win. I can wait in hope one of his vassals will break free but I don’t think that will happen either. So what should I do??? Should I just raze Madrid now and try for a space race? Or do you think a diplo is still possible?

Attachments

Wow! Louis is a powerhouse. I think he might be trying for domination so I'd build up a defensive army and fleet and go for space. If he attacks Huayna, you've gotta protect him; you don't want Huayna becoming his vassal too and Louis ferrying his army over to your continent. Could you post the power graph and the tech status?

Liz hates Louis but doesn't have a chance to break free, and Freddy probably won't. Even if he does, he'll still be friendly towards Louis and you'll have the diplo hit for declaring war on Louis when you will. Huayna Capac is friendly towards Louis and only pleased towards you, so a diplo victory seems out of reach.

I'd advise to finish Assembly Line, research Democracy because the lack of Emancipation begins to cripple you, and then aim for a space victory. I wouldn't declare war on Louis right now to avoid being hated by everyone, but it's up to you. All the holy cities are French so you'll have to attack Louis sooner or later, but I'd wait until my spaceship is launched and then raze Madrid. It's coastal so you'll be able to raze it whatever Louis does.

You're falling backwards in techs too, so I think you should develop your empire back home before starting a war. Give a go at the Internet and beeline all the space ship techs, forget the dead-end ones like Military tradition or Flight for now.

Your power is half Huayna Capac's one, I'd watch him if I were you. He's Louis' friend, not yours. I'd watch carefully which techs I trade with him.
