Mounted are very forceful and powerful, what I should take against them ??? it is possible to get it many promotion at mounted units -even one wonder and I cannot see any units against mounted units like spearman in Civ.Only pikeman in advanced stage of the game.So investing in mounted unit is too profitable I think, many times Hippus destroy half on the world in my game on earlier stage due mounted power units.Promotion against mounted U have possibility to choose only for 3 level units.Really there is no good defence against mounted on early stages. It is possibility to change that?

Erm, fortified Warriors in cities are stronger than Horsemen are, at 3+50% = 4.5. Give them Bronze and they become stronger. Also, Hunters are same base strength as Horsemen, but have the advantage of getting defensive bonuses.

Yes, Hippus horsemen are strong. That's the point. They're supposed to be. I have yet to see them 'destroy half the world' though. Most of the time they knock out one or two civs at best before running into me and losing their best horsemen and momentum. I play on Emperor/Epic, btw.

i consider mounted units as too weak when i play hippus myself. chariots turn the tide, but normal horsemen do nothing against weaponized axemen etc.
If there are only archers you can use them - if you can get them some promotions.
i don't say they are bad, but well promoted axemen are a far better unit to attack cities.

Combat II is required for Formation, which is +40% against Mounted. Really not that hard to get early on if you go barb/animal hunting early.

Yes but I talking also about centaurs , chariots not only about horsemans. And U guys forgot about promtoion for horsemans too. They also have promotion against archers against melee and city raider promotion. But agreed that some units are stronger than mounted in his environment

I think the horse line is too weak. There are buffs for every other Unit type (enchant weapon, Weaponupgrades, poison etc. )
So the Hippus horseunits are just normal units with one upgrade (for movement).

One thing that drives me nuts is the withdrawal rate of mounted units. It is given at 25% (without the promotion), but I am sure it is much higher than that - especially when you look at barb Wolf Riders and Goblin Chariots. The AI tends to pile on the withdrawal promotions and sometimes combat with such units is truly a joke. What really helps is a unit with blitz - that puts a stop to their running away and trying to hide. ;)

The mounted line is only weak if you treat them like melee units. Axemen may have better city attack strength, but they can only threaten one city at a time. Horsemen can easily bypass the heavily-defended city on your opponent's border and take the ones that have 2 warriors defending, and they're great at pillaging improvements. The flanking promotions allow you to soften up defenders without having to throw your units away.

They're also good for blitzing weaker AI civs. Especially at higher difficulties and on quick, the AI can pull an army out of the air in a few turns. If you're using a 1 move melee stack, you're in a long, protracted war no matter how weak the civ is. With good mounted usage, you can take all their cities in a few turns.

Yeah I agree with Drg about cavalry and their use. Doing combined arms horsemen still have their uses. I like to use horsemen for defence if I have good roads set up or as reinforcement sacrificial units because they can arrive faster.
