The United Kingdom

The United Kingdom has weathered all of the storms sent its way and emerged even stronger than it was after the fall of the Empire. The Commonwealth was falling apart with Quebec going independent and rushing to reconnect with its French roots, the close ally of the United States falling into disarray, releasing India to become independent, the Germans unifying as a communist nation, and the French unifying the puppet nations of Spain and Portugal all added up to the United Kingdom being surrounded by enemies.

When the Japanese began to grow through their aggression and heading towards the Commonwealth nations of Australia and New Zealand they decided a unified front was needed to protect themselves and thus not only returned to the Commonwealth, but went a step further and rejoined the United Kingdom with full representation but as a single political unit. Canada attempted to rejoin as well but while the vote was close in the end it failed.

Despite being separated by oceans the various members of the United Kingdom have pulled together to once more become the naval power they needed to be stand together instead of falling alone one by one.

Being one of the last functional republics in Europe the United Kingdom finds itself surrounded by monarchs with direct power and communist totalitarian regimes on all sides. This has lead to a severe revaluation of whom the United Kingdom should be friends with and who is the real threat.

So unlike most nations of the world The United Kingdom has stayed true to its values and roots and avoided the massive upheavals that have shaken the world the last centuries and in fact have grown stronger while staying the course.

OOC: This is my second choice.

IMPORTANT.

Okay, here's what I'm going to do. The sort of vague application process that's going on will end on Saturday at 10:00 AM UTC. I know I'll have time this weekend to do stats and confirm reservations. After the deadline, this thread will move into first come, first serve for the countries that haven't be snapped up. Backstories will not be needed for second stage reservations, as all nations will have official bios by then. I encourage everyone who would like to join INES III to hop on a nation in the second stage, not wait for the official thread, because when/if the game begins, I'm hoping for a running start. The tentative deadline for first orders will be Wednesday, May 18th, but do not (do not) put any stock in that yet.

Sounds good. :)

Empire of Russia

As the Cold War came to a crashing end, the Soviet Union was facing multiple crises. The grain crises of the 1980’s continued into the 90’s, with many doubting the ability of the Soviet state to continue on. In 1993, disputes with the Islamic state began, and the resulting defeats pushed the Soviet army out of not only Afghanistan, but Georgia as well. In 1998, the Soviet Nation was declared dead as the Finnish Army marched through Leningrad and the Red Army could do nothing, creating the new Russian Federation. However, Russia was weak, her army in disarray and her economy in shambles. Under the influence of Vladimir Putin, a former KGB officer, an autocratic state was implemented, and Putin eventually was crowned the new Tsar in 2011. Now, Russia looks to regain lost territory and restore her place in the sun.

This is a little early, so if anyone really wants to try and write a bio in the next 24 hours to bid for a contested country, I'll still allow it. However, NPCs on the below list are to be considered available per first come, first serve. No bio is necessary for uncontested claims.

EDIT: This list is NO LONGER up to date. Check list in first post.

Spoiler :
Quebec/NPC
Government: Parliamentary Democracy
Annual Spending Points: 2
Approval Polling: 50%
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: In the 1960s, Quebec broke off from Canada (with the Maritimes) and has enjoyed a quiet life since.

Canada/NPC
Government: Dictatorship
Annual Spending Points: 3
Approval Polling: 59%
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: Various wars in lands to the south made Canada a draw for European immigrants to the Western Hemisphere. In the 1960s, however, one of those wars spilled too far north, resulting in the loss of Quebec and the establishment of an entrenched dictatorship in the remainder of the independent nation. Ties with Britain have been repudiated; the wealthy Canadian elites prefer the doctrine of self-help.

CWOH Commonwealth/Julius Gandi
Government: Democratic Federation
Annual Spending Points: 3
Approval Polling: 51%
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: What is now known as the Californian-Washington-Oregon-Hawaiian Commonwealth was long the most fought-over bit of real estate in North America, with colonial powers like Spain, Britain, and Russia attempting to keep the land from gravitating towards Texas, Mexico, or the Atlantic Kingdom. At various times, CWOH was occupied by each of the aforementioned countries, but in the 1940s, an agreement was finally reached to let the highly diverse population of the region (First Nations, Asians, Spanish and English speakers) decide for themselves. The establishment of CWOH was followed by another continental war in the 1960s, but the nascent state survived, and today prospers after a fashion.

Atlantic Kingdom/Nuclear kid
Government: Constitutional Monarchy
Annual Spending Points: 3
Approval Polling: 39%
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: Since its 1783 independence from Britain, the Atlantic Kingdom has been the worst kind of unstable nation—the sort with enough latent power to force its troubles on its neighbors. In the almost three hundred years that the Washington dynasty has ruled from their namesake capital, hardly a month has gone by where there was not some sort of uprising, pseudo-revolution, or foreign intervention going on somewhere. In the 1860s, the so-called Southern Confederacy achieved independence, but two decades later, Washingtonian forces dragged the rebel state back into the unpleasant union.

Texas/NPC
Government: Presidential Republic
Annual Spending Points: 3
Approval Polling: 58%
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: English-speakers in Texas rebelled from Mexico in the 1830s but never even considered joining the Atlantic Kingdom. In the 1870s, after a long line of treaties, Texas bought the last of Louisiana from France, achieving both a border with and rough parity to the AK, laying the ground work for almost two centuries of war scares, wars, and other brotherly tensions.

Mexico/Abaddon
Government: Authoritarian Presidency
Annual Spending Points: 3
Approval Polling: 50%
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: Agustin de Iturbide’s crumbling empire was overthrown in the 1910s, allowing for a brief period of democracy before a set of aristocrats without official titles took the reins.

Republic of the Caribbean/NPC
Government: Federative Republic
Annual Spending Points: 3
Approval Polling:
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: The Republic of the Caribbean is the sort of country that wasn’t supposed to exist, a rising third world economic star with a world-renowned democratic tradition. Immediately after the Caribbean’s federation and independence in 2003, Mexico attacked, but the crafty Caribs turned the tables and succeeded in annexing the former Mexican puppet state of Panama by the Treaty of Havana after a war of only a few months. Today, the Caribbean enjoys a phenomenal reputation, but Mexico is hungry for revenge…

Inca Republic/NPC
Government: Fascist Dictatorship
Annual Spending Points: 4
Approval Polling: 79%
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: The Depression of 2014 created political space for the rise of Reza Eghtedar and his Partido Solidaridad Nacional. Reza, who became president of Ecuador two years into the crisis, predicated his rhetoric on the idea that the current South America system was corrupt and broken. Only great sacrifice would allow a return to former glories. Negotiations with the PSN branch in Peru created one state, the Inca Republic, and from his capital in Quito, Reza warred with the reticent Colombians until they accepted annexation in 2025. Today, much like his ideological opposite number in Germany, Reza is old and not quite as robust as he once was, but if all goes well, an appropriate successor will pick up the torch and end the chronic underrating of the Republic in the court of world opinion.

Brazil/NPC
Government: Conservative Republic
Annual Spending Points: 3
Approval Polling: 38%
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: Brazil, much like Mexico, was once a great deal more impressive than it is today. Centuries of catering to coffee and sugar barons slowed Brazil’s economy, leaving the old continental hegemon in an increasingly dependent relationship with trade partners in the northern hemisphere. Recent wars with the Union of Patagonia over now-dead border countries like Bolivia and Paraguay saw Brazil expand quite despite itself, but the government is standing on a house of cards. The PSN has an increasing number of supporters in Brazil’s western regions.

Union of Patagonia/DarthNader
Government: Federative Republic
Annual Spending Points: 3
Approval Polling: 59%
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: With the growing strength of the Brazilian state in the early part of the millennium, many of the nations of South America attempted to take measures to challenge their Portuguese neighbor. In 2025, the nations of Argentina and Chile, long believed to be the second and third most powerful states on the continent, joined together to form the Union of Patagonia. The following years were known for the wars between the two nations, which led the absorption of the Uruguayan and Paraguayan states. A war fought over control of Bolivia quickly spiraled out of control and saw the invasions of both Brazil and Patagonia by each others’ armies. By the beginning of 2040, a peace was made establishing a new border along the Paraguay-Paraná River. Patagonia and Brazil now stand neck and neck in terms of economic and military power, a huge difference from the one-sidedness of nearly forty years ago.

Union of South Africa/NPC
Government: Apartheid Regime
Annual Spending Points: 2
Approval Polling: 50%
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: Unrest in the 1990s threatened to topple F. W. de Klerk’s government until a terror campaign against whites and blacks alike in the name of Workers’ Revolution convinced the African National Congress that the regime they knew was the lesser of two evils. In the decades that followed, the shadow of Arab socialists in USACS has proven just enough to maintain Apartheid South Africa’s existence. As long as the government in Cape Town doles out benefits each year to the increasingly rightist leaders of the ANC, civil war should be avoided.

The Union of Syndicalist African Communal States/TheLizardKing
Government: Centralized Communist Federation
Annual Spending Points: 5
Approval Polling: 59%
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: USACS became flag holder of the Workers’ Revolution after the fall of the Soviet Union. Power is centralized at Bamako, religion is suppressed, and emphasis on power projection has paid off through the recent conquest of the Congo.

Ethiopia/NPC
Government: Imperial Absolute Monarchy
Annual Spending Points: 3
Approval Polling: 55%
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: One of the big winners of African decolonization was Emperor Halie Selassie. His family now rules as far south as Zanzibar, assisted by an extensive network of agreements with Muslim tribals more interested in the status quo than USACS’ threatened world revolution.

United Arab Republic//NPC
Government: Socialist Authoritarian Presidency
Annual Spending Points: 4
Approval Polling: 64%
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: Egypt’s Gamal Abdel Nasser was flanked on the left all his career by USACS. As a result, European and American industrialists poured vast sums of wealth into the dictator’s pet projects and tacitly backed his efforts at union with states to the west and south. The results were as good as could be expected. On paper, the United Arab Republic and USACS are the best of allies, joined in revolutionist-tinged Muslim brotherhood. In reality, the current president of the UAR is quite happy to stake out a moderate economic and social position from his desk in Cairo.

The United Kingdom/NPC
Government: Constitutional Monarchy
Annual Spending Points: 3
Approval Polling:
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: The United Kingdom has weathered all of the storms sent its way and emerged even stronger than it was after the fall of the Empire. When the Japanese began to grow through their aggression and turned towards the Commonwealth nations of Australia and New Zealand the Oceanics decided a more tightly unified front was needed to protect themselves and thus merged with the British Isles into a single political entity. Despite being separated by oceans the various members of the United Kingdom have pulled together to once more become the naval power they need to be stand together instead of falling alone one by one. Being one of the last functional democracies in Europe, the United Kingdom finds itself surrounded by monarchs with direct power and communist totalitarian regimes on all sides. This has lead to a severe revaluation of whom the United Kingdom should be friends with and who is the real threat.

The Grand Empire of France/Adrogans
Government: Constitutional Monarchy
Annual Spending Points: 3
Approval Polling: 58%
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: Emperor Napoleon I lost his bid at European hegemony after a failed invasion of Russia in 1812, but maintained a network of client states west of the Rhine. In 1913, this system was unified into a single nation. As the decades passed, the power of the Bonaparte emperors has eroded to a degree, but Paris is still resolutely monarchist in an increasingly socialist world.

Roman Republic/NPC
Government: Authoritarian Oligarchy
Annual Spending Points: 3
Approval Polling: 43%
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: The Roman Republic, one of the remnants of the European Union experiment that collapsed in the 2020s, has a different meaning in each and every one of is towns. Near the capital, the infrequently and corruptly elected senate still manages to be the reincarnation of past glories. In Serb and Croat lands, that same body is both tolerated and scorned for its hands-off approach to local conflicts. In Greece, the Republic is viewed as imperfect but necessary protection. Perhaps only Rome would be able to save Europe if Iran invaded.

Romania/NPC
Government: Parliamentary Democracy
Annual Spending Points: 1
Approval Polling: 53%
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: In the years since the upheaval of the early 21st century, Romania has stayed relatively true to the ideals of the dead European Union; insuring its western minorities full franchise and heaping upon them lavish spending. However, tolerance of the Roma (Gypsies) is predictably low; and this may prove a catalyst for future upheaval.

The Socialist Republic of Greater Germany/ZeletDude
Government: Communist Dictatorship
Annual Spending Points: 3
Approval Polling: 84%
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: From the ashes of an economic downturn, the German Communist Party won a Reichstag majority in 2021. With the help a spellbinding Chancellor, Heinrich Eichel, the Party institutionalized itself and proceeded to follow a program of irredentism as much as Marxism. Greater Germany now stands at the gates of prosperity, but is flanked by France and the Russian Bear. Meanwhile, Eichel is only getting older…

Balt Confederacy/NPC
Government: Parliamentary Democracy
Annual Spending Points: 3
Approval Polling: 58%
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: When the European Union collapsed in the 2020s, the Scandinavians, more than any other group, were unwilling to let the experiment go to waste. A number of chaotic decades later, an overly centralized but socially liberal regime has emerged in Helsinki.

Russian Federation/Omega124
Government: Authoritarian Presidency
Annual Spending Points: 4
Approval Polling:
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: Russia in the 21st century has been fairly quiet, and perhaps for the best. The chaos that happened to many other nations, especially to America, did not tear apart the Russian Federation, and they exploited the fact with a mass conquering of the states that split off from the end of the Soviet era. However, the invasions of St Petersburg and Sakhalin by Finland and Japan, respectively, has sent resentfulness to many of the Russians, who want all of what is considered ethnically Russian to join a nation of All the Russias.

Israel//NPC
Government: Parliamentary Democracy
Annual Spending Points: 3
Approval Polling: 52%
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: However lucky the Iranian Umma has been in recent years, Israel might have been more so. Ever since the 1970s, when paratroopers and tanks seized Damascus and the Suez, Arab resistance to the administration in Jerusalem has been divided and inconclusive. A Jewish-Arab socialist party has been control of the government for almost a decade now, and while Jews make up a slight minority in the state, autonomous zones and a prosperous economy have forestalled widespread opposition to the status quo.

Order of Mecca/Ninja Dude
Government: Theocracy
Annual Spending Points: 3
Approval Polling: 50%
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: The crusades-born Order of Mecca has managed to stay alive through an alliance with the British in the recent centuries. Missionary activity has been favored as of late, and the military has been downsized in an attempt to paint over the old image of the aggressive crusader state eager to fight all of its neighbors. However, with its alliance with the British gone, the Order may need to reverse its policies and prepare for war with its neighbors

Iranian Umma/NPC
Government: Theocracy
Annual Spending Points: 4
Approval Polling: 65%
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: In 1979, the Pahlavi Dynasty was brought down in religious revolution, a revolution that still continues to this day. The imams in Shiraz want to reunite every last Muslim in the world under their banner, and the recent easy conquest of half of Pakistan makes many elites wonder if perhaps they should aim higher.

Indian Union/Karalysia
Government: Parliamentary Democracy under Indefinite Emergency Rule
Annual Spending Points: 3
Approval Polling: 57%
Techs: None
Army: 15 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: In the wake of independence and Partition from British rule in 1947 Jawharlal Nehru became the first Prime Minster of India, governing with heavy advice from Gandhi. Their clear unwillingness to subdue reticent princely states allowed for Kashmir and Hyderabad to assert sovereignty, and fostered an undue number of ascensions to Pakistan. The result was bloody communal violence, ethnic cleansing, and a massive refugee crisis. When the dust cleared Nehru had been overthrown and Gandhi assassinated by Hindu nationalists who seized power in a coup led by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the "Iron Man". He imposed martial law, suspended elections, and began a massive arms buildup. The resultant series of wars brought almost all of the subcontinent to heel. In 1983, Delhi and (and Islamabad) were annihilated by nuclear fire, but for Sardar Patel’s successors in Madras, radiation was a small price to pay.

The Free States of Siam/Condor green
Government: Liberal Republic
Annual Spending Points: 3
Approval Polling: 51%
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: At one point the people of Siam were divided into two similar yet different nation states that both answered to a holy emperor. Those two states were known as Ayutthaya and Khmer. Some time ago, in a recession, those two nation-states broke out into an argument over the royal budget. Ayutthaya’s ministers believed that a significant portion should be cut, supposing that if they could tough it out a year or two, the surplus would balance out the economy. But Khmer’s elites did not want their citizens to suffer at all and only wanted to cut budget dedicated to things that deemed unnecessary. The Holy Emperor couldn't stop this government squabble, so the fed up people of Ayutthaya and Khmer rose up together and overthrew their squabbling leaders and the Emperor, creating the Free States of Siam.

Republic of China/Shadowbound
Government: Authoritarian Presidency
Annual Spending Points: 5
Approval Polling: 89%
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: The most wealthy capitalist nation in the world, China nevertheless has an eroding security situation. Surrounded by expansionist Japan, nationalist Russia, theocratic Iran, and feverish India, the conservative system set into place by the 1911 revolution might not be able to handle a major challenge.

The Second Japanese Empire/Lord of Elves
Government: Imperial Communist State
Annual Spending Points: 4
Approval Polling: 64%
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: In 2032, the Peoples’ Revolution of Japan overthrew a corrupt republic and created the Second Empire (of the Proletariat). The new regime’s successes quickly created great public confidence and an unprecedented level of stability. It is the position of the new Emperor of the Proletariat, however, that Japan must not rest upon its laurels. There shall be no rest until the proletariat is liberated, not only in Japan and Asia, but across the world. Onwards!

And now, slightly revised rules:

Spoiler :
INES III: Stormfront Tapestry: Ruleset

Statement of Purpose:
It’s a game. Enjoy the game. If you’re not having fun, you’re not doing it right. With that in mind, anyone can join, and the rules are meant to be as flexible as possible.

Part One: Players

The most straightforward way to participate in my NES is to pick a country, roleplay its government in diplomacy, and send its government’s orders each turn. However, if you are interested in joining as a rebel group, terrorist organization, world cult, or transnational conglomerate, be my guest. In such a nonstate actor, you may conduct diplomacy and send orders, but note that your group may not actually get stats until it seizes some territory. Note that rebel groups who control a white splotch on the map are not organized enough to get stats. Such groups will get stats when they get a color.

Part Two: National Stats

Each established country in the game has states on the first page of this thread that will be updated after each update. All stats will be based on the following model:

Romania/Imago
Government: Parliamentary Democracy
Annual Spending Points: 1
Approval Polling: 53%
Techs: None
Army: 10 divisions
Navy: 10 squadrons
Air Force: 10 groups
Background: In the years since the upheaval of the early 21st century, Romania has stayed relatively true to the ideals of the dead European Union; insuring its western minorities full franchise and heaping upon them lavish spending. However, tolerance of the Roma (Gypsies) is predictably low; and this may prove a catalyst for future upheaval.

Let’s go through this line by line, shall we?

Romania/Imago

This, as you might have guessed, is the name of the country. For the purpose of this example, it is played by me, though someone else will take it for the actual game. If a country is NPC, that will be listed after the backslash. Moving on.

Government: Parliamentary Democracy

This is a short description of the country’s government, aka the regime you are playing as. In the above case, swollen Romania considers itself to be a Parliamentary Democracy. Other nations might be Communist Dictatorships, Constitutional Monarchies, or Military Juntas, to list a few options. Obviously, a country’s government can change, either through player input or via less controllable events.

Annual Spending Points: 1

Now we get to the heart of the NES. Romania has 1 ASP, meaning it can spend 1 ASP every year (aka turn) in any number of ways. Annual Spending Points represent a government’s annual funding, NOT GDP or GNP or anything like that. Obviously, rich nations have more to spend, but if you start pull a Regan and cut taxes left and right, you might start experiencing tax flow problems that aren’t related to the prosperity of your nation. Conversely, if you say in your orders that you want to increase taxes, your ASP might get a short term boost, then decline precipitously as the national economy is exhausted. You can try to write polices into your orders that might result in an ASP boost during the update, but there are also some direct ways you can use ASP to influence ASP:
-An investment of 3 ASP will increase your next turn’s ASP by 1 point. This represents government funded economic development. If your orders detail a specific stimulus plan, you may try to cut corners, invest less than 3 ASP in the boost, and hope I show you mercy, but the only way to be absolutely sure of a boost is to invest all 3 ASP.
-You may overspend by up to double your ASP, but for every point you overspend in your orders, your next turn’s ASP will be reduced by one. If Jonny’s nation has an ASP of 4 and he spends 5, next turn his ASP will be 3, and his ASP the turn after that will still be 3 if nothing changes. This emergency spending tactic might serve in a pinch if you get invaded.
Also note that while many of the sections of the stats elaborated below detail other ways to spend ASP, you can spend ASP in any way you see fit, even if something is not specifically in the rules. Want a powerful spy agency? Start investing ASP into your very own KGB rip-off, and soon you’ll have the best secret agents in the world. Just don’t forget to remind me how much you’ve invested into your side projects in your orders.

Approval Polling: 53%

Yes, we’ve reached a new section of the rules. Approval Polling is the official best guess at how your people feel about your government, and it may rise and fall every so often without being mentioned in updates. Note that while this number lets you put your finger on the pulse of the people, if it ever rises to insanely high levels, (say, 99%) there’s a good chance your people are too afraid to tell you they hate you. So, beware extremely high and extremely low approval ratings. Both are warning signs. There is no direct way to influence this stat through ASP.

Techs: None

This game has an invisible and mutable tech tree. If you want to spend for science, tell me in your orders what area you want to focus on, like ‘Organ Cloning’ or ‘Hunter-Seeker Drones,’ as well as how many ASP you’d like to invest. Every ASP you spend on a science area will increase that area’s rating. So, if you spend 2 ASP on Organ Cloning, next turn you’d have ‘Organ Cloning 2’ in your stats. Higher numbers obviously reveal increased proficiency. Techs are useful in that orders that have synergy with your scientific developments have a better chance at succeeding. There are three tricks to happy teching-
-Techs can be intentionally leaked. Countries with a patron who admits to being such in his or her orders get catch-up development half-off. (Patrons do not have to spend anything to be patrons.)
-Tech alliances are possible, wherein every member contributes ASP to a pool. However, techs developed in the pool stay in the pool, and members who leave the alliance only get 5 points of tech or all the development on two tech areas as a parting gift, whichever is less.
-Don’t even consider nuclear weapons as being possible until you have at least level 50 of a relevant tech. The people of the game world experienced limited nuclear war in 1983 and soon thereafter instituted a very successful disarmament program.

Army: 10 divisions

This is the bread and butter of your military. For each ASP you invest here, you instantly gain 5 divisions of soldiers to play with. Each division is roughly ten thousand soldiers. How effective your armies are can be related to military doctrine tech areas. On a related note, if you start detailing strategies, tactics, and training styles in your orders, your armies will be more effective in the field. You can create a Unique Unit with an investment of 1 ASP, and then you can consult with me or decide for yourself how much it will cost on a per division basis. This is how things like killer robots show up in the stats. You can only have one type of native Unique Unit at a time. However, for extra ASP, you can sell the rights to build your native Unique Unit to other countries. (Even if they already have a native Unique Unit.)

Navy: 10 squadrons

A squadron is a handful of ships. Think a cruiser, a couple destroyers, and a pocket carrier. For each ASP invested, you can get 5 squadrons. How effective your navy is can be related to navy doctrine tech areas. Your one native Unique Unit can be in your navy.

Air Force: 10 groups

A group is twelve jets, a mix of both fighters and bombers. For each ASP invested, you can get 5 groups. How effective your air force is can be related to aeronautics doctrine tech areas. Your one native Unique Unit can be in your air force.

That’s the Romanian background. It will probably get outdated fast by developments in the updates.

Part Three: Updates

The game starts in the year 2050, meaning the first update covers year 2051, the next 2052, etc. Each update will list important civil and military developments. Any changes in the stats based on ordered investments will not be listed here, but all other changes will be, with the exception of changes in Approval Polling. There will also be a map with every update, showing the current territorial status of the world, as well as the presence of cities, rivers and perhaps fortifications. Paint the map your color!

Part Four: Orders

Submit orders via PM each turn on strategy and ASP spending. To compensate for different people having different amounts of time to commit to the game, only one PM each turn will be accepted.

Part Five: Stories

I think they add great flavor to NESing, but I’ve gotten carried away with them in the past. One each turn will provide your nation with an in-update boost of some sort.

Are the red cities on the map, and your capital all worth 1EP?

Will all economic development be shown with a red city?

lol is it ok if I rename my state. I was only using that to describe which one I was talking about :-p.

Are the red cities on the map, and your capital all worth 1EP?

Will all economic development be shown with a red city?

Nope. The map in the first post was made all the way back in the days of economic centers. Here is the new version.

Updated.

Of course the Russian Federation has no apporval rating; it would be high treason for anyone to even poll a question like that.

Yep. ;)

lol is it ok if I rename my state. I was only using that to describe which one I was talking about :-p.

Sure.

Baw, there goes my trololing plans of border raids on red towns! ;)

Great!

Anyway, competitive bids are no longer allowed, so don't worry about getting knocked off your country if you choose an NPC now. This thread is probably going to drop way down the page soon, but hopefully the actual NES will show up in a month.

On a related note, good luck to the whole slew of people who are starting new NESes right about now, including, of course, TheLizardKing. Your old NESes were certainly fun to check out over the last year and a half.
