Mayor problems for team Roadkill

I really HATE leaving England alone, but I will continue vs. the Dutch / Persia.

I am really sick of the slow moving borders vs. England - we have multiple cities that would be stronger without the cultural pressure. Not to mention the mother land whiners...

Wait, we have a window to take on Vicky. Sury is currently fighting Saladin. That means his SoD will propably somewhere in the upper right corner. If we have a good defensive stack in the middle Persian borders then we should be able to get Vicky. We will need about 10-15 turns for this. If the war goes on for that long between Sury and Saladin, we should be fine. We can conquer England in about 5 turns. So peace with Willem, healing, repositioning and then striking within 15 turns is viable. I leave it up to you LK how you feel about it. If we make peace with Willem we might be able to negotiate a close borders with Sury with Darius? If so then Darius can work as a buffer.

This is a lot of ifs, but maybe the best moment to get rid of the English. It is a crazy plan, but hell, I like crazy. Also after those 15 turns we redeclare on Willem and Darius and take at least 6 more cities :) (4 Persian, 2 Dutch)

1600 AD
I dial up the Dutch, and take map and what cash he will give for peace.
I sell Darius liberalism for $810. That is too much cash to leave sitting in AI hands.
I begin to transfer our units to the English front.

1610 AD
(IT) The Hague revolts, and joins the English empire. Civ is so shocked that is crashes and I have to reload from the Auto save.

1620 AD
(IT) Amsterdam suffers a Dutch revolt.

1630 AD
(IT) Mao is fighting the Dutch and Persia.

1640 AD
The war with England begins. The stacks are mostly healed, and spies in the 3 southern cities.
We got another GP.
There is no reason to continue the war with Saladin, so we sign a peace treaty.
(IT) Based on the war nature of our game, I go with steel for cannons next.

1645 AD
Our spy causes a revolt in Hasting and we capture the city.

1650 AD
Our spy causes a revolt in Warwick and we capture the city.
Our spy fails to revolt in Coventry. We will have to do it the old fashioned way. I begin the bombardment.

1655 AD
Coventry is now ours.
(IT) England converts to Jewish and draw a random event to spread it to 4 towns. :)

1660 AD

England has left the game.

Summary:
We are healing up in Nottingham, and our heal2 axe is stationed there.
We need to pick the next war target.
We are up to 23.51% of the needed land, and that will jump once the English cities leave revolt.

GOOD TURNSET!!! Bye bye Vickie!!!

Next target is WvO and Darius again. I say we get a double stack to attack. Darius has very little units so should be easy to conquer. We need the 2 cities above Amsterdam to release the pressure. Lets hope he has some more GP's settled. I am just amazed that Amsterdam didn't build more stuff or got more GP's because his capital is just incredible.

How about Sury? Is he showing up already? Can we make peace with him? No need to tick him off longer then necessary.

I would also say insert a bank next in London. It is one of the highest commerce cities in our empire.

I saw NO signs of Sury during my set.

I hope we can Vassal the dutch. The true crap cities on the map are the ice / Tundra cities. City on a ice lake with zero food. Vicky cities are gems compared to those.

We cannot vasal the dutch as long as the persian are a vassal of WvO. So that would mean that we should conquer the Persian cities and then vasal the Dutch, because I have no interest whatsoever in his crappy ice and tundra cities.

I'll take the 1/2 credit for those tiles from the Dutch toward domination. Those cities will never help use.
At least getting the English cities got us marble if more wonders open up needing that. London is stronger. Those cities will be slow, but at least add some value. Not to mention good bye motherland whiners. ;)

Ishtak and Utrecht are 2 more cities with GP in them. We have 4 more GP so we could take out Darius completely at the cost of 3 GP and then Willem taking Utrecht and Maastricht and then vasssal him. That would mean a good vassal, 6 extra cities but no more GP's from our current GP pool. After steel I say we have to focus on the techs that give us GP like communism and fascism but I am afraid that it might be too late already :p

Some little pointers:
1) 1 deer close to nottingham is not worked. Nottingham could switch to that one so Warwick can work the other again.
2) London could work the gem mine instead of the windmill (+4 gold per turn)
3) We need 3 more universities for Oxford. My vote goes to Canterbury, York and of course Amsterdam. The last one could take to long though. Konya is a good city too since he can build an university in 8 turns.
4) WvO SoD is in Tarsus, close to the Persian borders containing 11 units.

Good luck, Pholk.

hey guys ~ been away due to some RL issues. I can play but it probably wont be until tomorrow as I've left my own sitting for far too long and need to get that done today.

let me know if you want me to swap ~ otherwise, i got it.

Tomorrow is fine Pholk. I hope everything is ok. No worries about the game. RL is always more important.

Make sure we get Sury peace before hitting Persia. I think we are safe right now because Persian borders are closed to Sury. If we get next to Sury, then it could hit the fan.

fairly easy 13 turns. Discovered upon loading that persia had already un-vassaled himself so i had the green light for attackign orange. healed and split up the army. Upon the war dec, our economy went to -50 gpt at 0%. so i went throughall our cities MMing to get us to -6 gpt ~ we're now making money but after going through all the cities, I didn't feel like redoing them all. we could always use excess gold to upgrade our maces to CR riflemen.

we also are still lord of the AP ~ its just us and orange :)

steel also came in and i picked Sci Method for Physics' free scientist.

our split up army is in these two places still, healing up. we've got the GPs with the eastern stack. I used the GA for Maas, but we got another GG so we're break even on GPs still.

Nice turnset Pholk. Lets see if we can vassal Willem now. I don't want to waste more GP's on him. Will have a look at the save this afternoon. Looking good. Another possibility is to vassal Darius straight away to after war declaration. We have to save our GP's from now on if you ask me. We need at least the Persian and the Chinese. Time to redirect the spy points to our last 3 competitors.

Checked the save game. This has been a very good turnset. Things to discuss:

1) Sury is willing to offer peace and he will give us WM and 7 gpt :)
2) Willem is willing to capitulate. He is offering us a city in the deal but I do not know if it has a GP in it. Lets see if he is willing to give up a tech and then maybe trade the other one.
3) Konya is building a bank but I would like a uni there so we can build Oxford in our capital.
4) Canterbury should insert a grocer asap
5) London is running 4 GM. I rather would switch it to the 3 gem mines. London is not going to spawn a GP but by running the 3 gem mines we get 8 gpt extra and the bank is finished 6 turns sooner.
6) Susa is building a bank. Propably for wall street but I would rather see there a barrack. It is not bringing in any money.
7) Persepolis should get library and theatre maybe after synagogue.
8) All of the conquered cities are building theatres. Pholk, what is the reason behind this as I think that monasteries and temples are way better buildings there (hammer wise and culture wise)? Are we gunning for the globe theatre? Anything I missed?
9) Nijmegen is building a hamam but a courthouse would be better there if you ask me. It is nowhere near happy or health cap and it would save us about 6 gpt.

PPP:
1) Make peace with Sury. Redirect all spy points to him. I want to see what is in his cities.
2) Vassal WvO
3) Redirect army
4) Conquer Darius

theatres are the cheapest culture building and have the highest culture/turn. Not to mention that if we're going with Sci Method next, all our monasteries will be obsoleted.

the reason for culture would be to push out borders for our dom win.

also, I mm'ed every city, and they're all on merchants to help with our finances, which fell into the toilet when i declared ~ iirc, we had 50something in the bank and we're losing that per turn at the declaration.

We have the sistine chapel so temples and monasteries have the highest output culture wise but theatres are the cheapest and open up artists spots. The AP hammers from the monasteries will still be there right after Sci method? And the extra culture from sixtine too right? I am not sure about this.

Everybody agrees with my plan? I will play tomorrow (thursday).

It was the year 1720 AD (after destruction). Mayor Suleiman looked at the world that was in perile. What must he do to bring peace to this forgotten wasteland. Resources were hard to come by and technology was going slowly. All he could rely on was sheer power. It left him with no other choice then to conquer all other tribes to unite them under one leader and bring peace to them. And so it was done. And so it was written.

Chapter 11 by Killroy: The 30 year war

It was the coldest of nights. Suleiman had a meeting with his 4 generals Pholkhero, Creedakota, LKendter and Killroyan and he laid out his plan. The English were vanquished, the Dutch were broken, the Persians vasal to the Chinese.

"We need to increase our power base" said Suleiman
"But we just broke the Dutch" said Pholkhero and LKendter
"We decimated the English" said Creedakota
"It is not enough. We need more land, more allies and more mayors" said Suleiman.
Killroyan said "We could take the Dutch as a powerfull vasal but first we have to make peace with the Khmer. They are advanced and could prove to be too strong. If we do so then we can get our army in place to conquer the Persians and then over 50% of the map belongs to us."

Suleiman agreed and send Killroyan to negotiate. First with the Khmer. They were willing to give peace and 7 gpt and a world map on top of that. Thank you, kind sir. Do you want to trade the stone too? Yes, another 7 gpt. Things are shaping up.

Willem van Oranje was next. "Ok Willem, what do you want to do?" Willem looked at Killroyan and tried to find out how much he had to give to get peace. His land was shattered and broken. Killroyan was not impressed by his looks. "You can have peace if you are willing to become our vassal and give us astronomy". Willem blinked not once. "That is impossible, astronomy is just too much. But we just conquered a nice city of the persians. You can have it"
"Oh dang, no mayor present there. We know that since we spied on the Persian cities for a long time and there is no way to get there. Keep the darn city and just become our allie" Willem vassals to the Ottoman empire.

This was the base for the 30 year war. The troops were healed and moved towards the Persian border. "The persians have vassalled to the Chinese. They could be strong, remember that." said Suleiman. Always protect our mayors well. "About the mayors, we just got a GM who will lead a good city somewhere soon in the future. Also Scientific method is in and we should focus on communism. We will get another good mayor from that". All generals agreed that it was a good plan.

After 10 years of preparation the Ottoman empire was ready for attack and attack they did. The Persians didn't even understand what hit them. It resulted in the following.

Ergili was the first to fall:

Followed soon by JinJan (screenshot failed, so this one is from 18 years later):

civ4screenshot0006pm.jpg

And also Gordium (same problem):

civ4screenshot0007x.jpg

In the meanwhile Mao of the Chinese was getting angry about this attack. He ordered his troops to the front line to teach the Ottoman empire a lesson. Too bad he did not have learned the way of the boomstick yet. His big stacks of knights/pikemen/trebs swooped in but were no match for the ancient technology of rifling. Fierce fights broke out and there was a lot of bloodshed. In the end the Chinese lost about 3-4 units to 1 unit of the Ottoman empire (40+ units lost for the Chinese, "THIS IS MY BOOMSTICK"). Another GG was born in that war.

The troops gathered at Ectabana and after two rounds of siege we were able to conquer the city:

civ4screenshot0001u.jpg

Leaving only Sardis in Persian care. Some more Chinese forces were killed while our spy sneaked into Sardis to start a riot. The defenses fell and in 1750 the Persian empire was no more. "Remember we have to settle a GP in Sardis still as it has no MAYOR yet".

Communism was in and with it came an incredible smart spy. This great spy would be an incredible mayor. He is on his way to Persepolis to meet up with the great general from the war. If the GE is settled in Sardis then we still have 4 GP left for other cities.

Back to the game:
1) I inserted 1 turn in nationalism and traded chemistry with Willem for it (got an extra 330 gold and the WM with it). We need nationalism for fascism so I thought it was ok.
2) Since Willem is actually doing something in the war (he conquered a chinese city) we could trade rifling with him for astronomy, opening up the way to physics (if the GS is still available). This would give him a good military tech to help with the Chinese who could be a good target. Their power rating must have dropped incredibly.
3) I redirected all spy points to the Khmer and they are weak. We have double their strength but they are advanced. The Chinese are willing to make peace and give us 130 gold with it.
4) I ordered up universities, libraries, courthouses, jewish temples and intelligency agencies as we will need the spy points. We are up 150 beakers per turn and loosing 41 gpt at 40% science. I have 2 trades with the Khmer for a total of 15 gpt. Maybe we could negotiate it to 1 resource (stone) and deny him the silver.
5) Our capital is building Oxford University and then the Kremlin for the extra GP points.

civ4screenshot0004d.jpg

6) We could use a civic switch soon. Pacifism is really necessary and maybe also free speech for the extra culture and coins. On the other hand bureau is still incredible powerfull for our capital

civ4screenshot0005.jpg

7) Last screen is from the victory screen. We now have over 40% land and 40% population. We are doing well if you ask me.

civ4screenshot0008a.jpg

For the next turnset we have to decide who we are going to attack. Mao could be a good target. With our GP we can conquer some cities of him and vassal him, but then it might become hard to get enough GP's to get Salading and Sury. Sury is the techer right now and far ahead. We have 3 techs on him but he has at least 5 more on us since there is a demand for emancipation and thus he has to have democracy also. That is why I redirected the spy points to Sury. I do think he is the better target. Discussion time.

A couple of things, I would really like to windmill all of the mines in our capital for the extra hammers. We can work 3 windmills at this size.

And I think Edirne is the best city for the NP so I started a forest preserve there. It could have 9-10 preserves so that would actually make a good GP farm.

Also monasteries keep the hammer bonus after sci method but loose the extra culture bonus from the sixtine chapel, so I followed Pholkhero's wise decision and build theatres in all newly conquered cities.

I think the next turnset is to concentrate a little on infra and a buildup again with our army. With the planned 6-8 Intelligency agencies we will more then double our spy points per turn. We do need an incredible amount though to spy inside the Khmer cities (something like 10.000 or so, pffff)
