Me needs help

Is it just me, or doesn't it look like Sparta would make a better settler factory if it was 1 tile SW of it's current location? Wouldn't that give you a 4-turn settler factory?

A bit late to worry about that now, beserks01. ;)

Oh thermopyla should start work on a temple or other culture right away. You want that silk.(its a rare resource bonus) I suppose you could just battle that civ for it. Another option is to tuck a second city right next to the silk which would claim the silk. (unless the AI's culture took it over, garrison those border cities)
Um, that silk will NEVER be taken by culture, no matter how many expansions take place. (Take a closer look at the placement of the cities. ;) ) A new city will need to be founded if that luxury is to be claimed.

It could be culture won - but you'd need to overpower the culture of the russki city, which looks like their capital...

Putting a city next to that iron is a priority, then maybe a couple more to the west. Then you're looking at barracks/swordsman builds, 'cos ground needs to be made up on a fairly poor start. Batter the russians if at all possible, they tend to be a pain, don't forget that you'll get a golden age if a phalanx wins a battle, therefore it would be best to be monarchy before you go to war (unless it's too late to consider that now!) That would be a good time to pump units out...

As to the issue of the undefended Athens; I simply point out that a German Warrior was wandering around. Nice bloke that Bismark, friendly, not maxed out on Aggression or anything...

Why building temples and Phalanx at this stage, more settlers! Build warriors only till land is claimed, the time it takes to build those temples you could gain 2 cities insted. Good that you have built workers though.

Change Sparta to a Settler and grab that Iron!

 And you've built walls! You paranoid man! :suicide:

No, it couldn't. You can NEVER break inside another city's 21 square radius unless you found a city that overlaps its own city radius into the 21 squares... ;)

3 new cities, all founded to get the resources(check the names)

Nice work. :) Although you may need to rush a bit of culture in some of those cities, so that they don't flip. ;)

Actually I meant the other Iron, I didn't see that.

Go military, land is full (you could still get a couple more cities to fill in your land better if you like. Take Odessa and Smolensk first to cripple the russians and make your land more continuous. Taking Ellippi denies Babylon Iron. Your neighbours all look pretty weak which is good. I would war against each in turn to grab 1 city from each by middle of Medieval period, use alliances. If you play well you could crush that continent pretty fast... Can you get all Iron, you could kill them all with swords then. Stop building Hoplites and go offensive, they will never get your cities with Hops defending them, especially since you have walls...

Sorry, bit of a stream of consciousness post. :crazyeye:

Looks like there's still quite a number of turns until he actually hooks up the iron, though...

Time to get a couple of workers & some barracks ready then? He's got to quite a good position now. Maybe pre-build some warriors and save up for upgrades?

Here's my plan:hook up the iron, pillage babylons iron, build 10 swords to take smolensk and odessa, destroy Kiev, capture moscow, ally with japs against babs, kill the babs, kill the japs and RoP sneak attack the Germans. :ar15: (send galley to pillage the german iron)

I would take out Russia, then germany, then Babs and finally japan. Japan is no threat, their land is poor. Russia looks very easy but wou dont want germany to build up any culture and threaten the cities that you placed in her first rank. Dont let the other civs have time to grow on good land. When you go into war mode, stay on it and keep building attack units until your goals are reached.

Hmm that picture shows only a settler on frankfurt. Early attack or too late now?

You won't need 10 swords for Smolensk and Odessa on this level, dude. Five or six should be more than enough. ;)

You might also want to get some alliances against the Russians, if only to stop the other civs from allying against you.

And DON'T pillage the Babylonians' Iron, at least not now - you really don't want to be at war with two civs at once.

Lord Parkin has a good point, dont be in war with 2 AI's at the same time, even though it is warlord.
By the way, can you post a pic showing the Score Graph? :mischief:

Well, I'm not sure, he might be able to cope with a two-way war... but better to be safe than sorry. ;)

Yeah, that often happens on the lower levels. However, you'll find that if you attack it, the Germans will immediately rush military units in all of their other cities, and you won't be able to have any more "easy pickings" from them. There's no guarantee they'd accept peace after just one city being taken, too. So if you want to attack Frankfurt that's fine, but be prepared for a full-on war with the Germans. ;)

Me is sorry for the delay, here's the next screen.
The revolt to republic left my GPT SFU(seriously ****ed up)so,lower research ?

You switched govts too early! Wait till some of your towns have grown to cities. (too late now obviously). Remember that under Despotism each town will support units for free that will cost you money per turn under republic, that is why you are losing out, when they grow more you will gain the gpt advantage.

Your infrastructure is poor, you need a couple more workers at least, get all your cities connected by road, irrigate plains so your cities can grow faster.

Why are Sparta and Athens building wealth? Build anything but that at this stage in the game! Military preferably, since you want to give your neighbours a kicking.

I see you are researching construction, that is good since all your cities require aqueducts, I would consider switching Athens and the 5 nearest cities to it to a large build (wonders?)as pre-builds for aqueducts.

Stop building walls! The Hoplite is one of the best defenders in the game in the Ancient Age and you have those, also once a town grows over size 6 and becomes a city it automatically gets a 50% defence bonus - which makes walls redundant. Go for aqueducts and size 7 not walls.

Recommendations:

Switch 'the wines..' to worker.
'the silks..' finish wall, then use it to pump some workers.
'The iron..' let it build archer then a worker.
Sparta and Athens build a worker each. Thermopylae should build a worker if it will not waste any resources.
Use these workers to irrigate the plains and mine the grassland around your core cities of Athens, Sparta, Thermopylae, Corinth, Pharsalos & Delphi. Try to do as much work around each city as is productive, ie; if a town is size 4, don't bother improving 8 tiles unless you will need them soon, go to another city instead.
Take advantage of the improved land by building Aqueducts in these cities and growing them over 6 asap. This will improve their defences and boost your gpt/research economy. At this point Markets (currency) would be usefull.
One of those cities, preferably one with a barracks (build one if you haven't already - switch Corinth to Barracks would be good), should ignore the growth issue now and start pumping out offensive units, Archers till you have iron connected, then Swords. 5 or 6 should easily be enough to take Smolensk &/or Odessa, have some in reserve down South to defend 'Silks..' against counter attack. You may find it easy to conquer the russkis completely. Try to get alliances against them, this may cost you tech but would be worth it not to attacked by other civs.
Once the other cities are aqueducted you could either go for Markets/Libraries and race for tech lead, or build barracks/military and go for conquest. Still keep Corinth as military until another city is ready to take over the military production either way.

Have you got a Right of Passage with the Germans? Because if not, there's really very little point in building a Settler in Corinth at this point in time. (Even if you HAVE got a ROP with them, founding isolated cities is NOT a good idea at this stage in the game. Far better to take some cities by force and "clear a path" to that "new land". ;) )
