Medieval2: Total War DEMO is out!

That is really odd, you would think that they would make processor combatibility top priority, or at least make sure the game works for all processers that Rome did.

Any explanations from the company itself?

They blow goats?

If I can't play this game because I prefer AMD's I'm gonna go nuts....

The Battle of Agincourt seems to be a pretty poor choice of engagement for a demo. All you have to do to win is to stand still and let the bowmen do the work, moving the infantry short distances if needed. It neither allows new players to get to grips with combat, nor allow veterans to see if the AI has improved (the French are forced to send wave after wave).

Putting the Quick Battle generator into the demo would make a far more interesting experience, in my opinion.

They probably put in Agincourt because of it's significance in Medieval history. This was the death blow to the age of Chivalry. Here, knights and nobles were slaughtered without bias by commoners, no honour, no mercy. It was the end of an age

Oh I know the historical reason why it's in there, and on that grounds it's a good choice, and a battle that most will have heard of. I'm arguing on demonstration grounds though :)

heh anything for an argument eh? ;)

From a gaming point of view I will agree with you. There is nothing that the French could have done that day apart from trudge forward and get massacred so as a result the AI does the same, doesn't exactly show the game at it's best. The battle of Tours may have been a better option for an open battle

Out of Curiousity... how big's the map? are we talking Vanilla RTW map, or RTR map? I'm assuming that the Middle East will be part so I can go on a little Crusade?

You're kidding? It will expand to include the New World? That's not Medieval!! and why the hell would you want to conquer America, what is there?? there are no cities??!!

Does that mean that the naval aspect will be played up, because otherwise there is no way in hell that you're gonna get to America

Naval will have to be upped from previous games if they want excitement there.

I believe the main thing about the New World is conquering the Aztecs, possibly as well as fighting other European factions in the colonisation race. Not seeing anything about the Native American tribes, so I assume they'll just be rebel provinces.

On the bright side, Scotland is an unlockable nation :D

heh Kan, I'll race you, first one to show a screenshot of Scotland capturing Western Europe and/or Rome wins. Ready???

GO!!!

*waits patiently for the game*

I think quite a few people are not that keen on the New World concept. It would seem a bit silly if diplomacy hasn't been improved. If you constantly have to fight your neighbours then that doesn't really leave a lot of time for sending armies. If you can guarentee periods of peace then it would make a lot more sense.

Diplomacy is improved.

To anyone eho has played the demo, tell me about the battles. Are they more thrilling than RTW battles? Do men die realistically? Are cannons great?

I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt as I don't want to see a simple remake of the first medieval. However it is going to be tough to implement, and could go either way.

the gameplay will be very similar to R:TW. It'll simply be a natural progression. taking hints and ideas on board from their researchers and fans, adding new bits which technology allows. They were onto a very good thing with Rome, it made them a bucket load of money, they're not going to start tinkering with a winning system, I'm excited :)

eh i recently bought the first medieval however i didnt really like it, I was playing as the egyptians and after the fourth crusade that wiped out everything to my west i decided to call it quits

it was part of the reason i decided to buy Just Cause instead of R:TW recently

I don't like Medieval at all, I just can't get into it, and I've always said that it's a game that tried to do too much with an engine that can't handle it. Shogun, on the other hand, was nice and simple and utterly perfect - even Rome doesn't come up to it's greatness.

Which means, obviously, I hope to be proved right with the upcoming Medieval 2. :)
