Mediterranean Resources Tips & Discussion

maqabee, given the global nature of the site, and after seeing crowds of folks from elsewhere, it's nice to know that I'm not the only one living here.

Regarding the file swapping and such, it'll be interesting to try it out, even though it doesn't look too hard. Unfortunately, I'm still trying to get the appropriate items loaded in order to play GOTM20. Not to try and submit by Monday, but just to see how bad I muck it up relative to the pro's here.

Quick Question: Is the smilie on the wool a default or do you have to have the smilie resouces to see the differnce btwn regular sheep and Wool (luxury)?? I play with the plain resources and really don't want to swap to the others.

Even if it doesn't have a smilie, you can tell the difference by the number of animals.

One furry animal is a lamb.
Two furry animals is a sheep (with its baby lamb suckling)
Three furry animals is wool (one for the master, one for the dame, one for the little boy/girl who lives down the lane.)

My daughter loves that rhyme . Thanks I thought that wool and sheep had the same number :p.

When in doubt just check the terrain info.

IMHO, the Mediterranean resources are a huge success. It's not a spoiler to say that, particularly when combined with the very hilly/mountainous map (from the 3 billion year old setting), the new food resources appearing in hills/mountains give a significantly different (fresh) feeling to the game, without changing the underlying strategic principles. Kudos.

I greatly enjoyed these new resources - not only for the food boost on mountains and hills, but also because having more than 8 luxuries gives a little more flexibility on the trade/war balance. Now we can wage war on those with a luxury monopoly without suffering a luxury loss... excellent.

Hmm, I'd have to disagree there. Intelligent use of luxuries is already a big advantage of the human player, and having more than 8 makes it too easy. I thought they would remove some of the standard luxuries so there would still only be 8.

Yes this reminds me I made several guesses about why this map was called a Mediterrenean Melee. What was the answer? Several other players had a stab at it as well. Did anyone get it right Cracker?
