Meet the Modders

Good luck, Gojira-san!

Maybe it is that your job with Blizzard is coming soon™?

I posted this in the General Discussion thread, but it was suggested that I also post it here.

Greetings All. I just discovered today that the Boy Scout's now have a Game Design merit badge, as one of my students in my game design class would like me to be his merit badge counselor. I will need to get the book on it and see if it would also apply to computer games or to the development of computer game scenarios. Suddenly, with my son just moving out to California, after graduating college, for his new job, I am back in the Merit Badge Counselor mode.

New here, but um...not new to civ 3, but im not a very good modder :(

But, also I enjoy doing it and Jeffery and Kristina are helping, and its fun.

I am now only just now in the States, living with them now, and I hope I can post someday something that everyone likes.

Salamat (Thanks)

Um, I don't know how to make a picture by my name. hmmmm. so here is me :)

Um, I don't know how to make a picture by my name. hmmmm. so here is me :)

You can create a custom avatar after you've been registered for thirty days and also have made thirty posts.

Welcome to the forums!

I've handed in my 28 days notice to the landlord, booked our flights, and chosen an apartment in Loebtau, in Dresden. The move is finally and officially happening. We fly on the 22nd of August. :)
Happy to leave and experience somewhere new; sorry to leave the old.
I moved to Maynooth from Boyle in Roscomon five years ago to begin university, and now the Horslips come to mind:

"Been so long away from home,
I almost made this place my own.
Now it seems I'll soon be gone,
Moving on and all alone."

Although I won't be alone, thankfully. My partner, who speaks not a word of German, is coming with me. She's very scared, but I have to move, and she wants to come.

True. This is the right one.

Indeed it is, Tak!

All of us started off "not very good" at creating things. Many people - rank beginners & masters alike - have a WIP (work in progress) thread. It's a good way to experiment & get help with new techniques.

The answer is in the FAQ:
If you have 30 posts AND have registered for 30 days, you can give yourself a custom title and a custom non-animated avatar. The dimension limit of custom avatars is 70x70 pixels and size limit is 4 KB.

If you have 100 posts AND have registered for 100 days, you can give yourself a custom non-animated avatar up to 100x100 pixels and 6 KB in size.

You can change your title or avatar in your My Account page.
You're already half way there on the number of comments.

Look through some threads on the kind of modding you want to get better at. Post a question or comment. Look through some of the WIP threads & post comments or questions. Those don't always have WIP in the title, but they're the ones about specific projects in the main C&C forum. By the middle of August you'll be able to make an avatar.

I'm going to be going on another research trip to Korea for a month. I'll attempt to complete the latest of my graphics creations before then (since I won't be bringing my overweight "laptop"). But if I can't get the PCXs done by then, maybe I could just send it to someone who can do the PCX conversion. :hammer:

ArianeRigor - don't worry, I've been here 12 years and I am still not a very good modder :P

Just an FYI I dislocated my right shoulder and broke my right arm almost 4 weeks ago (and of course I am right handed), and am just now able to type for more than 5 minutes at a time, but still in no shape to do any real modding or map making. it will be another month or 2 before I can drive and I have months or longer of physical therapy to look forward to. I may be on sparsely but contributing little beyond my self-perceived wit for awhile. :)

Ouch, Gojira. I broke two fingers in a row while I was in high school, and being right handed, I was not writing for about 2 months, so I have an idea of what it feels like. A couple of bits of advice, follow your doctor's and physical therapist's orders, and do not try and rush things.

I once had a mid-air basketball sprain 2 of my fingers in the same incident in middle school (don't ask how) I could still move my finger but it was painful and it felt like there was a knot in my finger joints.

I had to get 2 splints on both of the effected fingers, which made writing really difficult, but I managed it. The two fingers have long since recovered (finishing high school now) but they still look swollen around the middle compared to the left hand.

I know someone who dislocated their shoulder by trying to breakdance on the floor of a bus... which was, needless to say, pretty stupid.

I had basketball-induced sprained fingers long ago, too. Can't be as bad as a broken arm.

*mindhug smiley*
