That's the problem with "win32\zlib1.rc" in zlib sources.
For those who don't care about sources but do care about effects I have to say these things:
1) Yes, I use recent zlib version 1.2.3. Probably not as recent as Firaxis did since their .DLL does not have this problem with different file versions in VERSIONINFO resource.
2) I don't think that zlib security flaw may be exploited in civ4. As far as I know, civ4 uses zlib only to extract FPK resources, and I doubt someone among developers would add some exploitary data to their FPK files...
3) I will recheck zlib.net again with my update, so that things like that no longer confuse anyone.

I was SMAC player long before, and Civ3 player for almost entire year 2005. And I felt the same when not-farcry/doom3/whatever... graphics level game refused to play normally on my p3-1.3, 512Mb, even with quite modern 9800 pro video.
