Mesopotamia units

I like it, but now we need elphants and chariots for each time area.
... and we all know Sandris doesn't make this kind of units, so if there was someone who could create them, make flics and post in this forum :mischief:
Now THAT would be nice !!!

... and we all know Sandris doesn't make this kind of units, so if there was someone who could create them, make flics and post in this forum :mischief:
Correct sentence : ".. and we all know Sandris has not made this kind of units so far..."

Merry Christmas, CivFans!
No smiles this time - it's a hard time for my Motherland so there are no reasons to smile. And there are reasons to be sad.

In Belarus? No kidding. Ouch, man.

Goldflash reads the New York Times every day..

Lukashenko's rigged it again? The 79% of the votes is too blatantly fake. Oh well…

Correct sentence : ".. and we all know Sandris has not made this kind of units so far..."
Now this sounds interesting :) Anyway I was just suggesting that Yang Liu could make them and post them. But chariots and Elephant-mounted units by Sandris would be nice :goodjob:

Holy Hannah! My years of groaning in expectation are over. Finally, I have full-on Assyrians (although I am thankful to Steph's Chariots of War conversions for all their service as placeholders).

1. What Mithadan said.

2. Now I can use the Ilkhanate units for Mongolia.

3. The Timurid Tarkhan is missing it's LG & SM icons.

I've been checking them all one by one and have to say they're all wonderful, really. Still, they still have the little offset problem in the run anim. Easy to correct anyway.

Here are some PediaIcons for the Timurid Tarkhan and Horseman.

BTW, could you just put the PediaIcons in the main folder next time, and not in a seperate folder? I have to move them all by hand everytime before I can use the PediaIcons Editor (another tool I don't want to miss anymore) on these units.

Well, since I'm putting them in another folder, it means I'd have to do this instead of you...

But perhaps you can see how I handle the pediaicons.txt and see if it could suit your needs?

It's very fast for me now.

It's so simple it is not even a trick.

All my unit folders now have a pedia subfolder, and the icons are always named large and small, like in this pack.

So, in your pediaicons.txt, add this, and keep it for when you want to add new units later.

#ICON_PRTO_UNITNAME
art\units\UnitFolder\pedia\LARGE.pcx
art\units\UnitFolder\pedia\SMALL.pcx
#ANIMNAME_PRTO_UNITNAME
UnitFolder

To add a new unit, let say the "Assyrian Swordsman", copy the new unit from Sandris in your scenario folder, start renaming, but just to copy "Assyrian Swordsman", the name of the folder (you don't need to rename, it's just to avoid typo, but if you prefer you can rename).

In pediaicons.txt, use CTRL+F to find UNITNAME.

Paste "Assyrian swordsman" just below

#ICON_PRTO_UNITNAME
art\units\UnitFolder\pedia\LARGE.pcx
art\units\UnitFolder\pedia\SMALL.pcx
#ANIMNAME_PRTO_UNITNAME
UnitFolder
Assyrian swordsman

Then, copy the 4 lines abow it (don't copy UnitFolder) and paste, and add an empty line

#ICON_PRTO_UNITNAME
art\units\UnitFolder\pedia\LARGE.pcx
art\units\UnitFolder\pedia\SMALL.pcx
#ANIMNAME_PRTO_UNITNAME
UnitFolder

#ICON_PRTO_UNITNAME
art\units\UnitFolder\pedia\LARGE.pcx
art\units\UnitFolder\pedia\SMALL.pcx
#ANIMNAME_PRTO_UNITNAME
Assyrian swordsman
Now copy Assyrian Swordsman, and paste into UnitFolder

#ICON_PRTO_UNITNAME
art\units\UnitFolder\pedia\LARGE.pcx
art\units\UnitFolder\pedia\SMALL.pcx
#ANIMNAME_PRTO_UNITNAME
UnitFolder

#ICON_PRTO_UNITNAME
art\units\Assyrian swordsman\pedia\LARGE.pcx
art\units\Assyrian swordsman\pedia\SMALL.pcx
#ANIMNAME_PRTO_UNITNAME
Assyrian swordsman

Copy paste the UNITNAME from the editor

#ICON_PRTO_UNITNAME
art\units\UnitFolder\pedia\LARGE.pcx
art\units\UnitFolder\pedia\SMALL.pcx
#ANIMNAME_PRTO_UNITNAME
UnitFolder

#ICON_PRTO_SWORDSMAN_Assyrian
art\units\Assyrian swordsman\pedia\LARGE.pcx
art\units\Assyrian swordsman\pedia\SMALL.pcx
#ANIMNAME_PRTO_SWORDSMAN_Assyrian
Assyrian swordsman

It means that you will actually have the latest unit first in the list, instead of at the end. Of course, you can also just go to the end of the list and copy the previous unit instead of the "UNITNAME" template.

If you do them by batch, and so copy several units at the same time, are a little proficient with shorcuts (CTRL+C, CTRL+V) and are not too messy with the names of your units, it's very fast.

The "trick" is you can have the ANINAME close to the ICON, no need to separate them as it was done by Firaxis, and there is no need to move your large and small icons in the pedia folder, making it much faster.

And if one day you want to get rid of a unit or replace with new graphics, you can just remove the unit folder, no need to clean the pedia folder.

That's the most welcome trick I've ever seen. Thank you, Steph.

PS: the Parthian Horse Archer should be turned in his seat facing the rear of the horse. It's called "the Parthian Shot" and is one of the few things the Parthians are famous for, other than Magi and incest. I know that the Parthians were posted some time ago, but I just spotted them, myself.

I use that "trick" too. It'll work for tech icons as well- no need to separate the large and small and for leaderheads which involve a lot of hopping around if you do it normally
