Meth01: Culture, with no Wonders

Nice turns there!

Since Medina is behind, we should build the Cathedrals for the religions there first.

Great job Conroe! We need to make sure all of our religions are spread to every city.

Another thing is we need to get a great person factory up and running. It was be awesome if we could pop as many great artists out as possible. I know earlier I thought of making Mecca a gp factory, but am unsure if thats still wise. I'll check the save later.

The barbtown just appeared, so I doubt it's more than Size 1. I think we should raze it now while we have the superior troops rather than wait for it to grow (and possibly have better troops).

What kind of troops would the barbs have at this point? And how effective would they be against us? I hate to lose a free town that seems to be in a fairly decent spot.

Is it worth taking? Or would it be wiser to raze? Do we have the troops to risk taking it?

Just to clarify, Medina is actually ahead of the other 2 cities in total culture. IIRC, it has more culture than the other 2 combined. However, it does not have the shields of the other two cities and is falling behind in construction efforts.

as we can sure use another city, why not use our ample troop  to get us that barbtown?
 Its troopS. You forgot the S! We have two troops, three if you count the Warrior. :crazyeye: Ok, Ok, so I shouldn't have said ample. I guess the proper adjective would have been possibly barely adequate.

In all seriousness, I guess I was assuming that a barb city would spawn with a single Archer. In reality, I have no idea if it spawns with one or two Archers. If there are two Archers, then SW is correct. We may not have the firepower to take it down.

A fortified Archer defending a city will get a 75% bonus. Our Swordsman has no promotions but does get a city attack bonus (is it 10%?). That would be 5.25 vs 6.6, a winnable battle with a lucky RNG. The Axeman has Combat I, IIRC. That means 5.25 vs 5.5 and definetly requires a lucky RNG. However, the Archer has an inherent First Strike, so I would assume the Axeman would be a loss. You then have a lone Warrior to do any mop up that my be required.

 I misread the screen ... Medina should be last to get the Cathedrals :D

I got it, won't be playing until Saturday afternoon/evening so Methos we can swap if you want.

Go ahead ChrTh. My Caving club has a planned trip tomorrow so I won't really have the time. Tonight I need to get ready for it. It's always good to procrastinate! :D

Turn 0 -- 1400 AD

Goals for this turn:
Temples and Cathedrals
Start building Soldiers. We're dead last. Yes, it's nice that we're isolated, but we don't want to fall prey to an attack.

Turn 1 -- 1410 AD
We're 4th on the Wealth scale. Alex and George are 6th and 7th respectively.

Paper is in. I'm guessing the push is to Education (Universities and Oxford), it's due in 29.

Mecca: Theatre > Maceman
Basra: Lighthouse > Jewish Temple
Damascus: Library > Cathedral
Baghdad: Library > Mandir

I trade Paper to George for Optics.
I trade Drama to Alex for Horseback Riding.

Notre Dame and the Diang Miao(sp?) have been BIFAL.

Khurasan is Buddhist.

Turn 2 -- 1420 AD

We meet the Chinese Empire (Qin, not Mao). They're tops in the game. Philosophy and Drama for Engineering.

Saxon: Granary > Buddhist Temple

Turn 3 -- 1430 AD

Mecca: Maceman > Hindu Missionary
Kufah: Forge > Library

Turn 5 -- 1450 AD

Mecca: Hindu Missionary > Coliseum
Saxon: Buddhist Temple > Forge

Turn 6 -- 1460 AD

Saxon embraces Hinduism

Turn 7 -- 1470 AD

Saxon's borders spread, Copper now in range. Begin mining it.
Medina: Library > Christian Monastery
Najran: Granary > Christian Temple

Turn 8 -- 1480 AD

Mecca: Colisseum > Christian Missionary
Kufah: Library > Granary

Dammit, George has Education. George doesn't seem to want to trade with anyone anyway, so hopefully we'll still be able to trade it around when it comes in.

Turn 9 -- 1490 AD

Damascus: Christian Cathedral > Jewish Temple

Turn 10 -- 1500 AD

Mecca: Christian Missionary > Market
Basra: Jewish Temple > Buddhist Temple

Ok, I only built one more troop  ... but the temples are coming along fine.

The copper mine is built, needs a road now.

We've got to do something about our finances. Also, we should figure out how we want to divide the Epics and the Globe Theatre among the three cities (some of the cities don't have Rax so they can't build the Heroic Epic).

Here's the save:

Good job on the turns.:goodjob: Sounds like we are making a lot of progress on the temples!

That was my thinking, but someone (SW maybe?) mentioned that Islam has not been founded, yet. Do we want another religion? If we do, we should probably go after it before Education. If we've got all of the prerequisites, it wouldn't hurt to try.

Unfortunately, no wonders are allowed. Not even national wonders. Here is a link to Methos' post.

Right: I had forgotten about the National Wonder forbidsion. Good thing I didn't start one :D

Islam was founded during the turn prior, otherwise I would've gone for it.

Turn 210 (1500 AD)
Methos: We are definitely short on military. After Mecca finishes the Market I believe I'll start pumping out units.
Medina finishes: Christian Monastery
Damascus finishes: Jewish Temple
Baghdad grows: 9
Baghdad's borders expand
Baghdad finishes: Hindu Mandir
Kufah finishes: Granary
Khurasan's borders expand

Turn 211 (1505 AD)
Medina begins: Jewish Synagogue
Damascus begins: Buddhist Stupa
Baghdad begins: Jewish Missionary
Kufah begins: Christian Missionary
Christianity has spread: Saxon
Najran grows: 6
Kufah's borders expand

Turn 212 (1510 AD)
Najran finishes: Christian Temple
Axeman defeats (5.00/5): Barbarian Archer

Turn 213 (1515 AD)
Najran begins: Jewish Temple
Mecca finishes: Market
Baghdad finishes: Jewish Missionary

Turn 214 (1520 AD)
Mecca begins: Maceman
Baghdad begins: Christian Missionary
Methos: I send our Jewish missionary to Kufah, our last Jewish holdout.
Damascus grows: 10
Kufah finishes: Christian Missionary

Turn 215 (1525 AD)
Kufah begins: Courthouse
Christianity has spread: Khurasan
Mecca finishes: Maceman
Baghdad finishes: Christian Missionary

Turn 216 (1530 AD)
Mecca begins: Maceman
Baghdad begins: Hindu Missionary
Judaism has spread: Kufah
Methos: Judaism has been spread to all of our cities.
Kufah begins: Jewish Temple
Methos: Switch Jufah over to a Jewish temple.
Najran finishes: Jewish Temple

Turn 217 (1535 AD)
Najran begins: Buddhist Temple
Mecca finishes: Maceman
St. Paul (Great Prophet) born in Mecca
Saxon finishes: Forge
Basra finishes: Buddhist Temple

Turn 218 (1540 AD)
Mecca begins: Maceman
Saxon begins: Jewish Temple
Basra begins: Granary
Methos: We get a great prophet. He can grant beakers towards Divine Right but it's already known by the AI. I decide to go with the Hindu shrine for the income. We'll now have all of our shrines built.
Mecca finishes: The Kashi Vishwanath
Methos: I up research to 60%. We're still making +6 gpt.
Baghdad finishes: Hindu Missionary
Kufah grows: 8

Turn 219 (1545 AD)
Baghdad begins: Buddhist Stupa
Methos: I send our Hindu missionary to Kufah as it has the ability to pump out missionaries fairly quickly.
Christianity has spread: Basra
Methos: Christianity has been spread to all of our cities.
Damascus finishes: Buddhist Stupa
Najran grows: 7
Kufah finishes: Jewish Temple
Khurasan finishes: Granary

Turn 220 (1550 AD)
Damascus begins: Jewish Synagogue
Khurasan begins: Buddhist Temple
Methos: Copper has been found near Narjan.
Methos: Alex comes calling wanting Paper. I say no.

Notes:
-Mecca has been popping out Macemen to help increase our military strength. We’re not looking too good on this point.

Requires Hindu Missionaries:
Basra, Khurasan, Kufah, Narjan
Note: There is currently a Hindu missionary on a GoTo to Khufah. Khufah has the ability to build a missionary in 3 turns so I was thinking it could be used to build the remaining three required Hindu missionaries.

Requires Temples:
Recall that three temples are required to build one cathedral. Since the cathedral grants +50% culture we need to get all of our temples built.

* - Notes the city is currently working on a temple.

Buddhism: Khurasan*, Medina, Narjan*
Christianity: Basra, Khurasan, Medina, Saxon
Hinduism: Basra, Khurasan, Kufah, Narjan, Saxon
Judaism: Khurasan, Medina, Saxon*

Mecca: If the National Epic, Heroic Epic, and several artist specialist were put in this city it could easily be turned into a great artist factory. The problem is culture would skyrocket. Each artist produces +4 cpt and Mecca is already making 60 cpt. I’m not for sure if it would be wise to attempt a great artist factory here.

Current Culture:
Baghdad: 27 cpt
Damascus: 40 cpt
Medina: 21 cpt

If possible build cathedrals first as the +50% is the highest culture producing improvement. After the cathedrals the temples become priority. Medina is still shy three temples.

We also need to build a galley to hook up our trade routes with the AI’s.

Here's the 1550 AD save.

We can build caravels as well. I would like us to get our religions spread as far and as wide as possible. That'll help our financial problem.

With only 10 cities, you're most likely going to need to build Temples in Medina in order to be eligible to build the third Cathedral for each religion.

Liberalism after Education? Possible free tech if Washington doesn't get it first (trade for Guilds, free tech Banking?), Free Religion will slow down our builds but give us more happiness, more science, and a lower upkeep.

EDIT: And will eliminate the 'fallen under heathen religion' diplo penalty. Free Speech is a no-brainer with the +100% culture.
