MGI - Isolationist

Hmm, it seems Dave has forgot the sg, he's received a pm. So, if he/she doesn't post in the next three hours, CIZZLEWALK is up and asked to play fast...

mitsho

Ich hab es und ich will schnell spielen. >.>

gut, dieses Sg muss mal ein bisschen vorangehen.

PS: Ersetzte "schnell" durch "gleich" und streiche das zweite ich und du hast einen korrekten deutschen satz. (sorry for nitpicking, ;))

^Vielen dank, I'm just trying to get better for my German AP class this year. :)

Preturn.
Adjust science slider to make us more gpt and get Wheel next turn.

IT- We learn about The Wheel, begin learning Ceremonial Burial (in 4 turns @ +21 gpt).

Turn 1.
Move workers southwards.

IT-
*Orleans settler-- spear

Turn 2.
Man, we really could use more workers (at least 5).

Ok, guys... it says I'm on turn 85. Please try and make accurate records of how many turns you've taken. -_-

IT- We learn the technique of Ceremonial Burial, begin learning literature.

Turn 3.
Switch some cities over to temples.

IT-
*Orleans spear-- spear

Turn 4.
Move our new settler pair south towards the "red?" dot.

IT-barb suicides himself at Tours.
*Tours worker--worker

Turn 5.
Korea built a city in the south! ARGH! :mad:
Our settler pair heads north to extend our borders towards Rome.

IT-
...

Turn 6.
Dyes are now hooked up and workers are sent north to maximize shields at Paris and then get our other cities online ASAP!

I'm sick of not being able to get some techs! So I do some non-military tech trading...
Trade India Code of Laws for their Pottery, Mysticism and 164 gold. I just wanted the gold, but getting pottery was a plus.
Rush a temple in Lyon.

I stopped at turn 6 because it says turn 90 in turnlog. Hopefully we can stay on course from here on out.

~We should think about rushing workers in Tours and somewhere else.
~Building temples will benefit our isolationist empire... so rush in the semi-productive cities once they get at least 4-5 usable shields.
~Don't focus on military until we've established some more cities (3-4) and get our core strong. Right now, we're really, really weak on miiltary and just about everything else.
~Have fun. =D

@cizzlewalk, Guess I'm up then. But you missed one thing. I quote from my first post:

-No trading of non-military techs (the ones that give new units).

But well, you've already done it. Think of it the next time though... ;) (btw. are we building the GLib yet?

mitsho

^Well there is a problem with that... because you didn't specify which techs they were.

CoL gives no new units... and pottery and mysticism don't provide us with any new units either. Please verify which techs can and can not be traded in this instance mitsho. Thanks.

military-techs = the ones that give units.

Ok, I agree, it's not written in the best way in my quote, but we've discussed it, haven't we? :)

mitsho

PS: exactly, CoL, pottery and mysticism don't give new units, so they are not military techs (makes sense, not? :D)

... well we did discuss this a little bit, it still doesn't verify what I'm asking. The way we've discussed it, we don't trade or receive techs that give military units. I thought we could trade for techs that are non-military, and if that's the case then that quote it most definetly incorrect. :)

Actually, it's the opposite way around: We can trade for and with techs that give military units, ;). Well, I agree my quote is a bit unclear ('flip-flop quote?'). Anyways, sorry for this and sorry for the fact that I didn't have time today to play, tomorrow, I'll have played it... ;)

mitsho

^...

For an isolationist civilization, I didn't think it would make much sense to trade for military techs. Now everything is perfectly clear to me, although this idea doesn't really follow an isolationist empire's way of dealing with foreign nations. Sorry for not clearing it up before my turns, I don't tend to think outside the box when it comes to civ3 :D

Change following cities to temples: Marseille, Dakkar and Chartres, adjust slider

turn 91
literature drops 2 turns
Lyon: temple -> settler
Reims: temple -> spear
move settler, see that settling to the North doesn't make sense

turn 92
situation for Northern settler looks bad

turn 93
--

turn 94
--

turn 95
literature --> cartography in 8 turns at +/- o gpt (we can trade with that tech since it gives the galley)
culture expands in Lyon, Reims
Reims: spear -> spear
decide to settle Besançon in an offensive spot (since travelling to another would take away too much time) --> temple
Change Paris to GLib, due in 19 (as Pyramids were), decide not to raise slider and hire a scientist in Paris (since no one else has literature, this is possible)
Lyon: settler -> barracks

turn 96
--

turn 97
Orleans: xy -> settler

turn 98
Tours: worker -> temple
The city defence of Marseille moves out and defeats a Barbarian horsemen that was roaming our land, saves therefore a worker

Tenochtitlan builds Pyramids

turn 99
--

Cascade: Pyongyang builds the Collossus

turn 100

finished, rowandlife is up, I'll pm him. Here's the save

I see it, and will grab it tonight.

Played last night, but couldn't post it...

Lost GLib by 12 turns, so took MoM instead. Good thing, because Oracle and a few other went soon after. Built 2 cities, added infrastructure, started building archers, and Math due in 1 for cats.
============================
550 – 0
MM research to +10gpt, with MM still in 3. Move worked tile in Lyon gaining 1fpt + 3gpt for no loss. Gain 2gpt in Marseille. Change Reims to get spear before growth. Chartes will revolt in 2 with growth, and Tours in 3.

IBT: Rome demands CoL, and I send him away. Rome will sell IW for 177g, India will sell for 163g, Korea will sell for 167g.
Paris riots > taxman + 10% lux spending.
Reims spear > rax.
Egypt completes GLib in Thebes, while we were due in 12.

530 – 1
Paris can go to MoM wasting 8 shields, or go for Oracle in ~6 turns, but go obs with theology. I select MoM due to the 3 unhappy folks.
It turns out I got lucky sending Rome away, as he has legions, we are weak to him, and he is annoyed with us.
Hopefully lux spend will keep Chartres & Tours from rioting.
Rouen founded on site of settler > temple, and Phillipe forts.

IBT: Paris MoM > lib in 6. Ottomans complete Oracle, Incans complete GWall – Korean & India lose out. BH near Rouen retreats.

510 – 2
block Roman settler pair near Reims. 2 workers to BG near Reims.

IBT: MM > WC in 4.
Orleans settler > spear (but need rax). Marseille temple > rax in 10.
India begins GLight.

490 – 3
Reims workers begin mining, Rolf blocks again, settler heads for Tours.

IBT: Lyon rax > spear.

470 – 4
Rolf climbs a mtn, and now sees 2 BG + hills that the Roman is headed for – darn! It’s squeezed tween 2 Roman towns, but it would have been nice.

450 – 5 Zzzzzz

430 – 6
Our settler pair exposes Namp’o,

IBT: Rolf now sees a 3rd BG…. WC > math in 4.
Lyon spear > archer, Reims rax > archer. Marseille supposedly expands – Antium is in a bad spot for us – hope for a flip

410 – 7
worker moves

IBT: Paris lib > granary. Orleans spear > lib.

390 – 8
Grenoble founded on hill > temple & Guilliam forts. Rolf sees many more BG up North.

370 – 9
Rolf heads home. Worker moves.

IBT: Lyon archer > archer, Reims archer > archer

350 – 10
worker moves.

Conclusion:
- missed GLib, but got MoM.
- built or started more roads & mines at 3 core producers.
- built 2 cities, but now out of settlers. Need to hook them up
- Marseille & Reims feeling culture pressure from Antium
- WC is in. Math in 1. IW or HBR build in 4.
- Paris will need a temple soon too.
