Now for me, Iraq was something not black and white and of which I'm still struggling with today. However I was all for Afghanistan. The Taliban wouldn't give us Osama, go in there and get him!

GWB really didn't give the Taliban a chance for them to do so. He gave them an ultimatum and refused to negotiate. The Taliban also demanded some sort of proof that the Al-Qaida had caused 9/11 before turning him over. And GWB was either unable or unwilling to provide it, probably the former.

World sentiment against the 9/11 attacks would have likely forced the Taliban to turn him over in a matter of weeks, especially as more details emerged about the hijackers.

While you're probably right, I'm not too worried about the prospect of removing the Taliban from power.

Skinny mixed race guy tells it like it is. Iraq was a fools errand. Borders between Afghanistan and Pakistan are where Islamist terror finds a home. Give the generals a couple of battalions and behind the troops have a marshal plan moving in to give the inhabitants a choice/ option besides poppy/ vested interest in stability. Give the Pakistani military all they need on condition it points at the tribal regions not India.

Some of that is reading between the lines.

But then how should Karzai deal with the Tajik faction? I always thought that naming the Tajik warlord as Minister of Defense was a good move. And there are many Pashtuns who respect Karzai, so I dont see the problem here.
