The Last Conformist
Irresistibly Attractive
Let me rephrase that; SM's looks more like a city than does your latest attempt.
I'm probably in the minority in being a Fantasy reader that tends to worry about the socioeconomic basis of it all, but, then, I've never thought authors should cater to popular tastes over mine.
Yes? I said I'll try again...The Last Conformist said:Let me rephrase that; SM's looks more like a city than does your latest attempt.
Not unlikely. But we're hardly representative of Fantasy readers in general.RRnut said:Actually, I suspect you might just be in the majority of people who regularly post on this thread... I know I would be interested.

This is pretty explicit that it was the Valar's design that the Blue Wizards should cause disruption in Sauron's rear, and that they succeeded in that. But as already said, the Professor also experimented with other fates for the Ithryn Luin, that reflect rather worse on them. But the other two Istari were sent for a different purpose. Morinehtar and Rómestámo. Darkness-slayer and East-helper. Their task was to circumvent Sauron: to bring help to the few tribes of Men that had rebelled from Melkor-worship, to stir up rebellion ... and after his first fall to search out his hiding (in which they failed) and to cause [?dissension and disarray] among the dark east ... They must have had very great influence on the history of the Second Age and the Third Age in weakening and disarraying the forces of East ... who would both in the Second Age and Third Age otherwise have ...outnumbered the West.
