Military Discussion Thread: Exploration (Part A)

RED or PINK agree with the river reason

Go straight for the hut. But have some defending unit in the city. That means the route to the Baddy Hut is the 2nd route in my schedule. I'd go south first; there are spices just visible under the fog. That warrior can return in time in case we get another RNG present.

We could get another Warrior in 4 so we need to make sure that if we pop the hut and get Barbarians that they can't get to the city before the warrior is built - I think we might have to take one more move to get there than going direct (our warrior can move this turn still) which allows us to head for the mountain first (pink route). If we don't get Barbs then I too would like to see what those white bits are in the jungle to the SW are they spices or could they be dyes (or knowing my luck - snow covered mountains!

I took another picture in BMP format and soomed in. I can see smilies; indicating a luxury.

I don't think they are mountain tops. After studying what luxuries can be in junglt; spices, silks and dyes it looks most like dyes.

Go Pink.

Not exactly the same, Amirsan. We will see a bit of territory from the hill, but it will be overlapped by what we eventually see from the mountain. Whether there is a difference depends on if we discover new priorities from the hill.

Then again, if we do get new information, the DP doesn't seem to have any flexibility according to the constitution to divert from a posted instruction.

I am sure that we will come up with other scenarios where this will pose a problem.

@TM90 - In one game I had a ridge of mountains, some with snow, running right through my jungle - I was convinced they were dyes when I saw the first peak! I have only seen it that once though and had selected Random for my settings. Wish I still had the old save, but lost it when I replaced my hard drive and forgot that the save games were in the program directory!

Hmm, This is the reason I use graphics Mod packs that are approved by the GOTM Staff. Since the ones not approved by the GOTM staff could give info and clues on whats underneath the FOW.

Speaking of FOW(Fog of War), we will one day need to ensure that all fog of war is removed within a certain distance from our cities. Because someday soon those barbs willl discover the Wandering tech and will not need our help to leave the huts. ;)

As was pointed out earlier in this thread, vague instructions are best for the exploration strategy, or at least give the DP a safety valve.

Example: Use a warrior to explore in the general direction of the red route in this map, using DP discretion as to exact move sequence.

If a 2nd warrior is produced prior to the 1st settler, I would like to see exploration to the SW , then E, and meeting up with the settler for escort duty. Here is an example, and my suggestion about leaving the specific move order open to the DP's discretion stands on this one as well. This of course is dependent on the green dot being chosen for the 2nd city location... ;)

I have recived the updates to the game. I have posted a new map. The Red is the planed route that does not involve bumping into the land/water border. Yellow is the routes in the unexplored area, there are many since I had to take into account unknown possibilities of bumping into water/land borders. The Blue lines are predicted water/land borders.

after zooming in near the wines, i can say the square to the SE and NE is water, so add lines, i'll post the pic, i hope it works

I think the western warrior should go west and the warrior at our capital should protect our settler.

I would rather see a spearmen do the escourting bussness. Plus many people voiced that we should explore the area south of us.

I agree that a spearman would be better for escort duty, however we haven't got one of them so a warrior will have to do the job. I think that the warrior that started escorting the settler should continue as escort. The next warrior to be built can then explore South. We may also soon have to consider military police/defenders for the capitol - perhaps if we do the trade with Cathy we should consider building a spearman, possibly in place of the second warrior in the queue.

edited for spelling

Well since the Warrior is being used as a settler escourt. I have decided that the next warrior should head to the southwestern directions. Since the turnchats have ended yesterday. No changes have been made to the map.

Here is the latest map from the Military Department. I encoutage all citizens to partisipate in this discussion.

Military Map: Exploration Routes
CGExplorationMap2.JPG

legend for the map
Blue Astricks (*) Indicate that this warrior is escourting the Settler and will fortify at the city location
Yellow Astricks (*) incicate that this warrior can go through this route so long as the Russian warrior is not there. If the Russian warrior is still there, take a detor around the Forgen Warrior.
Red and Green Astricks (*) and the double yellow astricks (**) indicates alternate path movements IF the warrior encounters a Ocean/Land border. The path is to be determaned by the Military Leader and the DP should ask which direction to go when the warrior hits the predetermaned spots. :).

I think the flood plains to the north in CG's map looks interesting....
also the mountains in the NE corner of the known world needs to be examined by our brave warriors

we need to make more friends ;)
