And if I had to choose an attacker, I'd say the Romans since the Crusaders came in from the North rather than the East.

Ram: I was going to say Masada, but I think Bugfatty has it. Jerusalem in AD 70. Sacked by the Romans after a long siege. I think Titus was commanding but without Googling (which is kinda pointless) I have no idea who he was fighting for.
