Min System Requierment

I have watched the Gamespots E3 video again and it seems that Soren is playing Civ IV on a laptop. So I think that the video card specifications shouldn't be too high.
:)

I wonder if my ATI Radeon 9100 will work...
I bought Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic a few weeks back, and though the computer met the minimum requirements, the game was SLOOOOW. It took like 3 seconds to just turn the head, and I couldn't even get past the guy that introduces you to the mission when you actually begin playing the game - every time I wanted to walk to where I was supposed to, the thing that thinks that I still need help kicked in and I had to listen to the guy all over again. Finally, I just took out the CD, put it in the box, and put the box in the drawer, since the box was already damaged a little so the store would not want it back.
I hope I won't have to go through the disappointing experience with Civ4...

Oh, and to the guy who said to just get the money and go buy a new computer: Not everyone can afford to buy a new computer whenever the newest version comes out. Technically you're supposed to get a new computer every 2 years, but come on. Not everyone can afford that.
If you are rich and/or have your parents buy you everything, then fine, all the more power to you.
Doesn't mean you should demean those who are not as fortunate.
And I empathize with sheerin - I am still in high school, but most of my teachers give homework that requires internet use and computer work (typed essays, that kind of stuff). I got my laptop in December, and the only reason I was able to buy it was because my old computer which I had since 1998 finally broke down permanently. And even so, my parents ended up paying half the price because the tax and warranty were so high.

That still might be true, but don't let a laptop make you think that it is low-end in any way (there are some really high-end laptops out there)...

To qualify CivRules a bit more. This was a laptop that a game developer brought to the biggest trade show to demo his program on. I'm sure it was near the highest end money can buy.

It only gets worse, my young friend. I'm a grad student and I can barely afford to eat, pay rent, and you know, just basically live. When my comptuer died last year I thought I was screwed. It was right before I started work on my MA too... luckily was able to borrow enough cash from my family to buy a low end computer. but yeah... it'd be nice if I were rich...

The system requirement for Civ IV is really tame. I'm surprised so many people are bothered by it.

Then again every aspect of this game seems to bother someone so I shouldn't be surprised.

At the moment, I wonder if my ATI Radeon 9600 will still be good enough.

I suspect so. It's using the same game engine as Pirates! and that game is running fine for me now that I have a Radeon 9550.

Crap! I guess it is time to start putting some cash aside for a new computer. My current rig almost meets the minimum specs but falls short on the processer power. Civ would be the only thing that would convince me to shell out the cash for an upgrade though (bought an Xbox for the majority of my gaming needs). Perhaps I could just upgrade the processer (the motherboard supports up to 1.5Ghz) but that would be like fixing your car with duct tape.

I putting in a order for a new laptop today.
It will be a dual purpose machine. Business and civ4.
From what I'm reading so far some of the recommended features I should get are:
P4
2.x GHz CPU
512 RAM
ATI Radeon 9800 procard

Anything else I should consider?

You might want to consider more RAM. 512 will do, but it's always better to have more than you need. And Windows XP will use almost 256 on it's own.

Thanks Willem.

My laptop exceeds most of the minimum requirements. Except one. The integrated graphics chipset onboard does not provide hardware Transform and Lighting. Since this game is using the same 3D engine Pirates! used, I'm sure Civ4 will play fine, for the most part. I am just a little worried that some of the rendered characters (especially the leaderheads) will use the same techniques that rendered governors in Pirates!. I'd like to avoid the Liquid Terminator look.

Thanks Willem.

Love your Sig. :)
Is it your lifes wisdom or is it a quote, if so of whom?

Should be overkill.

Half Life 2 would recommend that...so you fine.

okay good, had me worried for a moment, espceially when they're saying you should use a Radeon 9600 or whatever.

I'm looking to upgrade my video card as all I have at the moment is the intergrated one that came with my dell, and a shot I know is selling the 9250s for less than 50 bucks, figured i might as well pick one up.

Does anyone know, if the following graphic card has hardware transform and lighting capabilities?

128 MB ATI Radeon X300 SE PCI-Express

With those specs it looks like one of the sytemns here on the network may just keel over and die. Then again it shouldnt of done all that well at the moment, prehaps (or hoping that should be) the other sytemns may bail it out in multiplayer. Its a K6-3-450 with 3/4 of ram and some 64meg nvidia graphics card. At least the others should do any news on what the recomended stats are rather than just minimum ?
