Minecraft

I knew paypal would convert the currency, but I couldn't fill out the page if I couldn't read it. And what page is the language button on? And the website is down right now so I can't buy it. :(

Well right now Minecraft Alpha is free to play until notch can fix the damn thing so you can download the .exe

Yep, just download the exe, the game will update automatically once you run it. You just have to leave the login details blank.

Just note, as soon as he fixes his server, it will no longer be free to play, so take advantage while you can.

Just recently purchased the game, utterly addictive!

Built a 83 level borehole first, just to see what i could find, built some walls to protect me, so i figured to build a base out of it.

Then I glassed over the hole, dug a trench, and made it so the only way out of the trench was for them to run out into the borehole. then I built a gatehouse and bridge, outer castle walls, and so on. No I have to decide what I want for my main fort inside the outer walls, but pausing due to the fact that the wiki out (was going to look up some crafting stuff.

Played the alpha for free and it was awesome, buying it when it doesn't become free.

when the forums are back online, check out the pictures threads in Alpha and SMP discussion boards. 130+ pages of awesome.

I am making a dwarven city in SMP; here's the grand entrance hall.

Cool stuff!

I owned it for three days, and built this

This is the 10x10x83 borehole that I dug, covered in glass, and is the centerpiece of this castle, as the ditch around the castle feeds into the borehole, so the critters fall into the tench, then eventually fall down the borehole to their doom.

I triple glassed a 3x3 area to make a skylight though three levels, and it makes a great centerpiece as the light goes from the top of the keep, though the living space, then down into the borehole.

The only thing I don't like is the constant running back and forth for more wood (chop down leaves first, seed more trees), and toolmaking. I've had a few maps with plenty of trees, and almost no coal, and others with few trees, and plenty of coal (found a few small caverns below my house, too, leading to a lava pit with underground water).

The thing I do like about it is building structures, especially along a hillside, and lighting the area with candles, then a pathway to a mineshaft. It looks like a city when you view it from a distance. :)

Personally, I think it's a bit time-consuming for me to get right now. Great concept, though.

The solution to avoid lumber trips is to have your own underground farm.

It can be lit with a skylight and some torches for 24/7 growth

I don't really like building really nice houses in survival mode, takes too long.

question: where can I get it free? But if it isn't free, well then I'm thinking of just buying it since all of you are saying its pretty awesome!

thanks guys!

You can't get it free AFAIK.

Yeah I guess Notch fixed the website so free weekend is over

Hey, but after playing the free weekend I'm going to buy it for sure.

I'm in the middle of getting a game with 5,000+ TNT blocks going off at once. My first two attempts ended prematurely.

There is a free browser version, and some multiplayer, but I didn't try that yet. You are restricted on what you can do on the free version, but its still fun.

Here is the before and after of 576 TNTs!
