Minecraft

Here Jeb posted a picture of food changes:

It appears as if there will be multiple ways to prepare food now.

Or, if I had to take a wild guess... (given that there's a "Hunger Bar" in that screenshot)

pink - basic meat.
white - salted? (would mean a new resource - salt biome? - I was thinking about Minecraft when I looked at this - built in a salt mine.) would be raw, but preserved.
red - rancid meat? would poison the player. Or, a partially cooked pork (i.e., the player hastily cooked a piece of meat. Not sure how waiting 2 more seconds can kill you, unless you're face to face with a creeper).
brown - cooked.

It's a bit more straight-forward it seems! From the Minepedia:

5 new food items.
  • Cooked Chicken.
  • Raw Chicken.
  • Raw Beef and Steak.
  • New Melon block, but not yet confirmed as food.
  • Cooked Pork now looks different.

Also note that food, or pork at least, is now Stackable. :D

It takes someone as awesome as notch to do this:

I am back, and I am excited.

Marriage has been wonderful so far, and nobody sabotaged my computer while I was gone.

The only negative thing going on at this moment is the Scrolls trademark lawsuit nonsense, and I think I came up with the perfect solution:

Remember that scene in Game of Thrones where Tyrion chose a trial by battle in the Eyrie? Well, let’s do that instead!
I challenge Bethesda to a game of Quake 3. Three of our best warriors against three of your best warriors. We select one level, you select the other, we randomize the order. 20 minute matches, highest total frag count per team across both levels wins.

If we win, you drop the lawsuit.

If you win, we will change the name of Scrolls to something you’re fine with.

Regardless of the outcome, we could still have a small text somewhere saying our game is not related to your game series in any way, if you wish.

I am serious, by the way.

<snip>

Hide yo' lawyers, hide yo' judges, games are the new way to make sure you win a lawsuit!
(in addition to not being boring)

I should note in that image the terrain height delta was amplified for that screenshot.

More from the twitters:

Trying to balance gameplay against scale is interesting. I can do HUGE oceans with HUGE islands very easily and fast now, but it plays bad.

But the bigger the islands are, the bigger the biomes can be. And deserts want to be big.

Deep oceans; check.

I am wondering how this impacts seeds. Will a seed be approximately the same or very different?

This can only mean good! Rivers are great, and the tweaked terrain generator looks more realistic, judging from the map. Of course, whether it "feels" realistic is another thing entirely.

Oceans! I've always wanted oceans! Now the world will seem more mysterious without always being able to see whats beyond the sea from the shore. I can't wait for this!

Nice! Now for continents! Now if there could be rivers that start from say, 100 blocks up in the mountains. (tributaries) That big red mushroom in the other picture kind of ruins it a bit.

Could be useful for something like CivCraft...! ;)

NOOOOOOO!

@notch is making some major improvements to the world generator... Which means you should stop looking for map seeds in 1.7 to use in 1.8 ;)

My plan on surgically deleting chunks is ruined!

Wow, some interesting stuff.

Spoiler :
- Food doesn't restore HP directly. The wiki says HP regenerates slowly when your food bar is high enough.
- Animals don't respawn - once they're gone, they're gone. Animals can be bred though.

I guess that encourages farms and things.

I think I like the new biome code, but I haven't seen enough of it yet. At least biomes will be larger, finally. Every snow zone I start in seems to be pitifully small. I want to wake up to snowfall as far as the eye can see. :D

So we're gonna need a new world? That's too bad.

I wouldn't mind a new world. Although, that's not to say I don't like the world we have now.
