Did you miss all the earlier discussion about how the Palace is the safest play to go, assuming that Snerk is telling the truth? I'm not sure that we have any other leads besides that.

Theres a not very complicated series of logical arguments.

That basically means that only one of the Palace and Temple has a scum item. So visiting the other one of the pair means they have 1 item. We (at least I) know precisely where the other item is, which is the more important thing.
