Minor requests and questions thread

I don't like that the now starting tech survival causes military units to be produced with food, it means my starting city doesn't grow while I'm building my initial army.

i thought that at first, but it fits flavor and realism IMO
That is a bit of an experiment...

I tried to make building and supporting an initial army a bit easier, plus I agree that it fits survival flavour.

But as I said, an experiment. If I am told to change it, I will.

Some vey preliminary feedback.

- Game loads somewhat faster than earlier versions, though not by much.
- When initialising, I get the "Your machine is below recommended minimum specs" message. Orbis ran, well crawled, on my old laptop so this was to be expected. With these machine* I'd hoped to be able to go beyond small maps. Which minimum specs are recommended?
- I like the survival change too.
- Trying Palatinate which has a nice warhammery vibe. But, might the "Raubritter" be renamed "Reichsritter" and the Raubritter become a barb unit spawning from barb-held castles?

Back to game. :wavey:

Should be fine. RAM is overkill, CPU is good and and the video card is as fast as it gets for a non-dedicated gamer notebook. I have a mobility X1400, which has roughly 1/4 the power of the 4650, and civ is well playable on low to mid settings. Maybe the civ installer is objecting to the Win7?

I am not sure why, but I get this message both on my brand new laptop with Nvidia GT 240M and desktop that had no problems running dragon age. I just ignore it and then set everything to high.

Regarding raubritters (and much other stuff from new civs, civics, religion), I am waiting for the feedback :). The civs are initial versions and will be tweaked/expanded further.

Edit: The Empire from warhammer was one of the main inspirations. :)

It isn't really a minor request, but this new GREAT civ, "the palatinate" it seems like it could need a bit more "gaining power over time" rarther than just getting unique units in the end game.
Its sort of a theme for Orbis, that great unique units come in to play at the very end where you've allready won or lost the game.

And I'd really like to :):):):):) about the new slimmer civics, but i haven't played enough games to support my protest :D

I would like to request a holy building for the White Hand, you know the one buildable by great priests.

Quoted for emphasis :)

Unfortunately I'm another one that doesn't like being forced to start with Survival, however that doesn't mean I don't like it. Perhaps another starter civic could be added in this area for those that don't like it, rather than removing it entirely?

Also, I was wondering if it might be possible to have the 'Wild Mana' game option merged back in?

Thanks a lot Ahwaric, loving the new Orbis release :).

I hope this is a minor request :)

I propose a recon promo "Pathfinding" that reduces movement cost by 1, like the magic boots.

Right now a fast scout needs 4 promotions (forrest/hills) making the unit no longer expendable. As these promos include combat boni it would be a waste not to upgrade the unit further asap. IMO these units represent light infantry rather than smallish, expendable scouting parties that venture incospiciously into the unknown, relying on the avoidance of combat for survival. And if such a Scout does survive to be promoted, well that's the stuff of campfire legends and a fun accomplishment for the player. :king:

Ahwaric, since the current release is 1.00 perhaps you should unsticky this thread and replace it with a "Orbis Post-Beta Version - Questions and Suggestions" thread. Need to discuss balance issues somewhere since you've "gone gold".

Also, you should staring thinking about inviting reviewers for your mod in the CIV4 general discussion forum and the main FFH forum. But that should wait until you added the next polishing patch. There's lots of missing texts and broken details.

Exactly my thoughts. But I wanted to wait for the first patch - and this will be out today. Before it, it is still "beta".

I thought of it, and now you have convinced me to do it. But I think I will released at least one more patch (that would be 1.0 b) before doing so.

What's this about reviewers? I don't really follow any forums besides this one and the occasional glances at base FFH2 and RifE

Nothing traditional for Fanatics Center per se but it's common in other modding communities to invite reviews or at least list comments about your work. Heck, its the one thing I always felt this place was missing.

Reviews helps newcomers to understand what the mod is about and the modder to get a feel about how the work regarded by the community. Also, it helps spreads the word about the mods existence.

I suggested it since Ahwaric already asked for constructive negative feedback in the "Why don't you like Orbis" thread. Orbis is the result of a staggering amount of work hours (especially considering its mostly a one person job). It will never be for nothing, considering just how much entertainment he has provided for so many. But it wouldn't hurt (much) to hear what others feel about it.

Hopefully people will actually bother with trying the mod before posting. ;)

Yeah, we need to get some out side eyeballs on this because the group is dwindling, we need some fresh bloods, perhaps a potato vodka lure?

This project seems like over 1000 Person/Hours has been put in, and because you are just one, well... it just seems like an extreme waste if this died

Yay 700!

Anywho, where can I go to find out how my Minor leaders can gain traits ... or more specifically a detailed guide to attaining each trait, all the better if I can learn how to gain two or three traits to replace minor (like philosophical/spiritual for instance)
