Minor Suggestions Thread

Anyone else think there should be a copper resource on the hill next to Athens instead of Iron? I find it odd that the Greeks are unable to build their own custom Unit unless they expand into a norther territory that was historically not theirs, or into Babylonia (Which I end up doing...)

EDIT: My mistake, I forgot you could make them with Iron too. Usually though, since I am wonder building I never get to the discovery of Iron.

What do you mean historically not theirs? Epidamnos (now in Albania) was a great city founded by the Greeks in the 600's BC.

Also, Byzantion being razed and Dobrudzsha being founded 1 tile NW of Byzantion's location is annoying. The AI's must realize the strategical importance of Byzantion.

The AI should also recognize the importance of a city in the Sinai for connecting the Med. Sea and the Red Sea. I never see anyone found a city there, even though it was and still is a very strategic location.

Because a fort would be enough and more reasonable there? I'd say as soon as the workers have no better thing to do, they build forts there. The problem may be that fort/canal building is not prioritized enough by the AI.

Yeah, a fort would work there too, except that other countries can't move through forts even if they have open borders IIRC.

And forts don't act as canals in Warlords anyway, and I've seen examples of AI not realizing where to build forts in numeros BTS threads.

Can we make it so when America takes over British Fort Albany the name gets changed to just Albany, same with when they take over Detroit and this other French Michigan town. I like them being American names better ;) lol. Same with Fort Caroline

Also ive noticed a lot of AI have been building workshops on strategic cottage and farm spots, and one thing they keep doing is building forts on random resources

 they are already coded

Fort Albany is different to modern-day Albany, NY - according to Wikipedia, that is.

That may be the case, but by the time you get a settler to Albania Rome will found either Spalatum or a city right next to the Copper resource. This is why you must beat the Romans to Spalatum. Without copper, Athens falls easily to Praetorian. Perhaps the Iron resource should be changed to copper, and in the AD Start it should be Iron?

That is why I usually reload until the preloaded settler is WEST of the starting point, so I can found Epidamnos the second turn. (Interesting, I usually found Corinth now instead of Athens, and the former happens to be the mother city of Epidamnos)

I suppose so, but I go for Historical locations when pursuing the UHV. Not to say I follow history exactly... I tend to conquer the Babylonians before the Persians spawn and burn down Shush and Sur. Once you get Babili, you can churn out both Military units and Wonders. The only problem I seem to have leads back to my point- I can't make any more Phalanxes in Athens because I don't go for Iron if I am wonderbuilding. Thus, I succumb to the Romans rather easily.
