MLDR005 NOW what?

1740 AD (1)
Decide to go after Isin first. Move the SoD and Settler over to build a city to get the arty in range.
(I) It is a good thing I moved a second tank into Bad-Tibira as they kill one of them. They also try to get another 2 Mechs and 6 tanks around to it. They then land a couple more tanks on the island. A sub sinks a transport with some Sumerian workers in it but redlines. Another sub shows up at the mainland.

1745 AD (2)
Sink both of the subs. Destroy the 2 destroyers, frigate and transport that dropped the tanks off. Bombard Isin below size 12 and then take out the 3 Mechs and a Tank that occupied the city. We lost 2 tanks razing it though. I should have some more combat settlers next turn so I can start to make more progress. Start moving some troops towards Teotihuacan, but without a settler it will be slower. Clean up some pollution. Move th eextra bombers from the island to the mainland.
(I) I moved some mobile SAMs up under an army that they keep bombing and we take out two bombers with them.

1750 AD (3)
Take out 2 Mechs and 4 tanks getting 2 more tank armies in the process. I sink 3 destroyers but can't get the tranport. I will get it next turn. I have settlers now so the progress can kick it up a notch.
(I)We lose 2 tanks and a TOW but they lose 2 Tanks.

1752 AD (4)
Sink the transport. Bombard Teotihuacan and throw the troops in. Kill off 7 Mech and a Tank to capture the city and Shakes. Bring up a settler and abandon the city. We then build a replacement and bring up the reserves. We bombard and capture Texacoco gaining 5 free arty. We bombard Tenochtitlan and then capture it. I need to bring up two settlers to replace it, so I wait until next turn. Troops are moved to the outskirts of Tzintzuntzen. I clean up 5 Mechs and 2 tanks. Started out the turn with 5 Sumerian cities in the top 5. Now Rostov is 3 and Moscow is 4. Agade is still first and Tzintzuntzen is second, Tlacopan is 5th. Antalya is now the capital and in the former area of the Ottoman empire.
(I) Their airforce has its worst day. They lose 5 bombers to our Jets and SAMs. We lose two tanks and they lose a tank and a Mech. You know they are getting thin when they start attacking with their defenders. The Sumerians start the Internet.

1760 AD (5)
We capture Tzintzuntzen and the last piece of Sumerian arty. Hope they build more. The next city to go down is the Agade. I raze it and with it goes Magellans Voyage. Next we capture the city of Tlatelolco and bring up a settler. The city of Tlacopan is next and I raze it as we don't need it. We now have 4 of the top 5 cities with Xochicalco the only blue city in 3rd place. Unfortunately for that city, it is next on the list.

Sounds great so far. :goodjob:

Our jet fighters shot something down? This is like getting a flip in the player's favour at Sid.

Normally I have Jet fighters shoot down bombers ~1/4 of the time, get shot down 1/4 of the time, and just be the first bombing target the other half. F-15's are fairly good at interception, and whenever I am America, I almost always use them as total interceptors, as the Shoot down bombers at over a 50% clip.
That is still nothing like the AI fighters tagging your bombers 3/4 of the time.
Good fighting Meldor. Keep it up and wipe them out.

1754 AD (5)
(I)We lose a couple of units to counters.

1756 AD (6)
The city of Xochicalco is razed. It was too far from any other city so it went up in smoke. We get 7 slaves from it though. Looks like all of the top 5 cities are now ours. We then capture the city of Der which allows us to bring up two settlers. Unfortunately, I have a miserable string of misses with our arty. We take the city of Antalya and move the Sumerian capital again. It moves to Athens and is now on the Greek island! Kill off 5 Mech and 8 Tanks. I then use the bombers to take out 3 destroyers and a carrier. It seems that the Sumerians no longer have either coal or oil.
(I) Not much, they didn't even go after a single arty I missed covering.

1758 AD (7)
The city of Calixtlahuaca is razed for a free arty. Next comes the city of Tlaxcala along with a Jet and Bomber. They now have no iron or saltpeter. The city of Edrine is captured which allows us to raze the city of Konya before we bring up a couple of settlers. We then abandon the city and build two more. That allows us to raze Sinop.
(I) They kill two tanks and lose a mech and a tank. I will be happy to swap them units at this point.

1775 AD (8)
We raze Izmit and Cop's. When then raze Istanbul and the MoM. I bomb down and sink a carrier. The Sumerian cities are shrinking.

I will stop here as it is too late and it is an even year.

Ok, I'm going to violate S.O.P. here and not do anything else with this turn so that the next player has free reign to align the troops in preparation for the conquest of Grecian Sumeria. I only did the minimum necessary to take the continent. If this is unacceptable, let me know and I'll finish the turn.

I have moved the rally point to Rostov.

What's left of Sumeria:
MLDR5--1780AD.JPG

They have only 12 mech inf. They have 13 destroyers though.

Great stuff. I like your stock of synonyms for "razed". :rotfl:

preturn: why is lux rate at 10%? Set to 0.

Weird, we control two entire continents and have only 6 lux. There are furs in the ex-Greek island, which makes 7. Which is missing? Incense! I find it and create a colony there. Although it's not needed, it feels good to have more lux in the box.

I'm trying to find transports and almost all of them are sitting in Mobosibirsk, far away from the battlefield. The closest 3 are at the original Sumerian beachhead which also need a few turns to make to the front.

I disband several units to rush two transports.

(1)1772AD: Our marine lands on the last island.

I merge workers into New Yaroslavl' to make it more productive at producing transport, but it might not matter anyway.

Keep rushing transports.

Fail to steal from Sumeria.

IBT we build Internet. Bad-tibira (Smith's) flips.

(2)1774AD: Capture back Bad-tibira.

Our marine takes out Malinalco on the little island. It's got a lot of boats inside and shot down some our bombers. Tank army razes empty Mycenae.

IBT we lose a transport of 3 tanks + 1 marine to a frigate!

(3)1776AD: We create airfield on the island. Raze Pharsalos.

IBT Sumeria founds a new town next to our airfield. Didn't see that coming, as I just moved two bombers there which are lost.

(4)1778AD: Found a town on the island so our transport can send troops instantly.

Raze Delphi, Athens, Sparta, Knossos. Create furs colony.

(5)1780AD: Raze Corinch. Capture Argos. It comes with harbor and we just have enough workers to railroad and get to Heraklela this turn:

Score: 5330.

This is a very challenging game. We fighted Portugal, Germany and Sumeria. The first was easy, the second so-so, and in the below picture Sumeria was going to win 100K culturally within 36 turns, while we haven't even established beachhead on its continent yet (well, we tried but failed).

MLDR5-2con2.jpg

Below is when we established beachhead.

MLDR5-beach.jpg

And we killed Sumeria completely in 25 turns. That's amazing.

For a moment I thought we'd lose but we eventually pulled it off. Congratulations!

Woohoo. Great game everyone. Thanks for the oppurtunity, I enjoyed it, but will decline any sequel attempts.

Nice finish, Microbe. :goodjob: This game was a real test, as you say. Congratulations to all. :hatsoff:

I don't normally think much of Russia as a civ, but the scientific trait may have saved us in this game after we failed to get the Great Library.

I think this game established clearly that staying in monarchy for most of history, as NOW requires, is a much bigger handicap with the weakened Conquests 1.22 Forbidden Palace than it used to be. Accepting a second anarchy and going into communism (RTM's idea, I think) was probably a game-changing decision.

This makes two MLDR NOW games in a row at demigod, so the next should definitely be at deity. ;)

Great Job guys. I think we are ready for the Big D. It will be harder than this one. I will have to wait a little beofre I can start it. Let me know who is interrested.

If you don't start it until ~mid-May, I'm interested, don't think I have the time over the next month for Deity (of course, if you want to start it before then and just hold me out of the rotation until then, that's ok too)
