mm18: Incan Warlords AWM

Played some turns, I have 3 more, but theres a question... So anyways, I start Settler in Tiwanku and continue producing military/infra in Cuzco.

AI brings quite a few mini-stacks, which we take care of rather easily... Alphabet comes in 500 BC, I start researching the religious tech's so we can take theocracy. After beating some more AI units, our second great general is born in cuzco, I decide to build the +25% unit production building in cuzco. Probably not best move, since 2 xp is worth more and we will probably build heroic epic in cuzco rather soon anyways, but I cant change it now ;).

Anyways, start moving our army towards rome. On the way we find some more mini-stack's from Mao approaching, nothing we cant handle though. Mao is sending most troops atm. Meditation researched in 325 BC, I use our prophet to research theology and we found christianity in Tiwanku. While this was going on, built library and hindu temple in cuzco.

Settler completes in Tiwanku and I send him to settle the wheat/crabs location. Start terrace for culture in third city(forgot name)

Set research on literature for epics and great library. Also interesting thing here, Mao's trireme enters ocean in our territory.. WTH? This shouldnt be allowed...

I move our trireme back to our clams and start another trireme in cuzco.. So anyways, the situation is as follows. Lost 0 units, killed alot, Our army has reached rome's massive defense of 2 archers  . Question is, do we keep Rome, or raze and continue moving along with our army. IMO raze, we dont need to break up our armyt for rome's defense this way, and rome has 0 improved tiles anyways.

ill play last 3 turns after we have some opinions..

I would say to keep it. Saves us a settler and it's a good location and will give us elephants.
Did you whip something in cuzco? I see it being at 8 pop in one and 7 at other screenshot.
Might be worth going for hereditary rule and keep some units there to keep it growing.
I think we should keep Rome, get some catapults and demolish all other towns on our continent and grow and expand til we get astronomy.

Yeah, I whipped something for 2 pop, cant remember though. I think it was library. I dont think we need hereditary rule, representation will be more useful with great library or police state to push out units. We have 3 religions, which is +4 happiness with the 3 temples and state religion, and +2 more with a cathedral. +2 from gold with a forge will get it to size 13...

keep Rome if we can hold it, a capital is always a good spot

What's up with the last 3 turns. Can we get this moving?

I was busy yesterday, so I couldnt play. Sorry..

Anyways, captured rome, keep it. Lost 0 units, fortify 4 units in Rome, and move our main attack stack towards Neopolis which JC just founded in the north near iron/cows. Literature comes in, start Great Library in Cuzco, workers building Road towards neopolis/Rome using the path east of the lake. Chariot should be sent towards rome once it heals ASAP, incase any AI axeman show up. We have enough units in cuzco/tiwanku to hold off any stacks rather easily, but I think AI will start sending its stack's towards rome now, since its closer..

TheRat has option to keep Neopolis or not, army is ready to attack this turn and I have not moved it. Also, interesting thing right here again, this looks like a bug:

Look at the borders of Ghangzhou... WTH?

Save:

Hangzhou looks weird because Rome owned its 3 eastern tiles, and there is often a few turns' lag before AI cultural borders are recalculated for some reason. I've seen this happen in other games.

got it....will play tonight

I have seen those border anomalies many times in CIV..no bug, but maybe intended

Yeah actually after you guys mentioned it, I figured it out also. The reason I got confused was because I have never seen that happen for the initial nine tiles

save

Pre-Turn
MM our capital since we are at the happy limit
GL now in 12
we're building 0 military, hope it won't backfire

1. 100BC
beat archer at 20% odds and autoraze Neapolis

2. 75BC
Rome comes online starving, whip a terrace there

3. 50BC
scouting spear steps next to Antium, defended by 4 archers

4. 25BC
defeat an archer in the open and spot an American stack of 4

5. 1AD
defeat archer in open , defeat 2 archers in Pisae and autoraze it as well

6.25AD
there are now 2 stacks near, one American and one Chinese near Rome
lose an axe but beat 3/4 American units

7. 50AD
defeat Mao's chariot at Rome on defense
we get mathematics construction next

America has more units showing up, mini stack at Antium moves west since that city should be taken with cats

8. 75AD
lose sword in Rome on defense, we need more chariots, starts one
beat 2 American units in the open

9. 100AD
go 1:1 at Rome, we need more units
game crashes 2 times here, switch on airconditioning...

10. 125AD
beat last chariot at Rome on defense, get a breather there
beat 2 American units, but lose spear at 87%
defeat 2 spears at raze Chengdu
mm18125b.jpg

we should build more military units for sure, we should take out the enemy first before thinking of too much infra

have been building a road to connect our core to Rome eventually
mm18125a.jpg

The situation looks very dicey to me. We are about to get slaughtered at the former Chengdu due to lack of axe cover. I hope that is China's only iron although I doubt it. Roosevelt has five axe men heading north and Rome is defended with 1 sword and quechua's without even the possibility to upgrade.

150: We get a prophet in Cuzco and he is used to build the Hindu shrine neting us three gold. Switch research to archery. It will be useful to be able to rush archers in an emergency in unconnected the newly captured cities. I don't know if this will be sufficient to save Rome. Lose the heroic Chengdu sword. Kill 2 axes and a spear heading north.

175. This is brutal. Mao now has a total of eight troops combined sword, axes and chariots heading north. Combined with Roosevelts 5 axes I don't see how we hold Rome.

200: 2 of Mao's swords take on one of our healing swords on a hill with forest and both lose. He then foolishly breaks off the attack which he was foolish to start and heads towards Rome. This does however generate a general for us who is merged to Cuzco. If we ever get a break in here I want to switch to representation and theocracy but at this point we just need units.

225: nothing much

250: Lose a sword and a spear that were trying to get to Rome. They take 2 swords and a chariot with them. Whip an archer in Rome.

300: Rome now has an archer, sword, and axe along with 3 quechuas. It still needs reinforcements but I take this opportunity to revolt to representation and theocracy.

325: Not much

350: Some major stacks are approaching Rome.

375: Rush walls in Rome. Take Hangchow loosing 1 ax. This is the city on the hill blocking our access to Rome.

400: Rome is in trouble again. Good luck keeping it.

Sorry my pics didn’t save for some reason. In summary we are now a representative theocracy, kind of like the US. We got TGL and after that have been pumping out troops. Cuzco is working on the HE and then should be able to produce troops almost 1/turn. One more general merged in Cuzco will give 11XP out of the gate in theocracy.

In retrospect I think it was a mistake to keep Rome. It seemed like a reasonable thing to do at the time but it is not really defensible and is costing lots of $$ and we can’t improve it. Much better to have a city like Hangchow on a hill and near a choke.

10-turns now

I havent checked the save yet, but yeah doesnt sound too good. I think we should put 1 of each a chariot/archer/spear/axe in rome for defense. Promote them to take out thier counters if its possible. What size is rome atm? Will it be possible to whip it further?

good turns mark. As I mentioned in my preturn, I felt building absolutely no military (esp Cuzco) was very risky. Well, even we lose Rome for a while, we can take it back. We should pump military until we have broken the necks of the opponents on our continent.

Looked at the save, my thoughts:

- Rome is clearly a writeoff. I'm not sure if it's worth attempting to salvage those troops. So long as we keep Hangzhou we deny elephants to the enemy because they won't dare to try and improve the tile.

- Cuzco is 2 population below its cap, and in food deficit because it isn't working its clams! Next player fix that please, we really need to make sure we micromanage our capital carefully to not waste anything.

- Now that we are in representation we really need to get a library up in Machu Picchu and start hiring scientists in general. We really want maces sooner rather than later - I guess we could go axe axe axe axe axe spear spear and insane numbers of catapults, but we'll still want maces for protective Mao

- With cuzco on military duty now, and being on a defensive footing, we probably ought to settle at least the cow/silver/spice site now.

uberfish, agree with your analysis, though I can't look at the save.

During my turns, I MM our capital for more hammers since it was at it's happy limit but still at the end 1 turn away from growing into unhappiness. Am surprised to see that we are now 2 pop below happy limit. Did we whip something there?

I forgot to switch back when going to representation. Sorry about that. We can grow all our cities as top 5 get +2 happy.

Init turn:
MM a litle: cuzco works on Clams will grow in 4
Tiwanaku, switch mine to farm (growth in 10 instead of 20 and gets 1 commerce)

425 AD:
construction in, set research on metal casting. Cuzco has high chance of getting prophet in 10 turns, which i think will give us civil service
and then machinery and we have maceman.
3 axes and 1 sword attack rome and die. most units wounded in rome, so decide to move all of them and give up on that city for now,
another american stack with sword, axe and spear appear by rome.

450AD:
chinese demolish rome (why didn't they keep it?)
move most units towards hangzhau
do some more MM and increase research to 70% with -1 gold (thanks to no upkeep for rome)
Heroic Epic done, start built on axe

475AD:
just move some units, cesar builts town where rome used to be
do some production rearrangement in cuzco as it's producing 60 hammers and most expensive units are 40 or 45, so lower hammers for food and gold

500AD:
tiwaniku finished axe, set it to produce terrace (in 7) for faster growth
cuzco produces axe -> spear next
machiu pichu finishes lighthouse -> trimmerie

520AD:
1 axe attacks hangzhau and dies
there is about 15 units around hangzhau
MM2_01.jpg

start builting cottage (on farm) by cuzco as it has plenty of food

500AD:
more attacks on hangzhau kill 2 axeman, 1 sword and 2 spears. One spear kills our axe at 7% odds
MM2_02.jpg

america builts city north of hangzhau (I hope they won't start brining units around that point now to our mainland)

attack lone american swordsman on east of hangzhau (70%) and win, move workers there to rebuilt rode

560AD:
more attacks. 1 sword and 1 chariot dies, our archers dies from sword (67% odds)
do more rearrangements at cuzco for more commerce (only 10 hammers actually put enough for spear)
MM2_03.jpg

580AD:
no attack on us
machu finishes trimmerie and starts on archer (no unit there and it's about to grow in 1, so needs it for happiness)
kill archer by Hangzhau with sword (98%)

600AD:
metal casting -> machinery
cuzco: sword -> axe
take out axe by Hanghzau with chariot (98%)
there is quite a few units by Hangzhau, but they're all on jungle
MM2_04.jpg

620AD:
2 chariots and 2 axe die attacking Hangzhau
cuzco: axe -> spear
axe -> sword dies (72%), axe -> spear wins (96%)

640AD:
1 axe dies attacking hangz
all cities produce something:
cuzco: spear -> catapult
machu: archer -> library (in 7)
tiwanaku: terrace -> forge (in 6)
hangz: terrace -> walls (in 7)
we get great scientist in cuzco. (i was hoping for a prophet). don't know what to do with him, will bult us philosophy (pretty useless for now I think) so I left him there.
Make sure you do something with him, it's sleeing in Cuzco.

I think this is 11 turns (sorry for that).
We have quite a few axes in hangz and 2 lose swords and 1 spear that can be dealt with.

I got axe, sword and spear by tiwanaku to go around the lake and spot AI units and maybe take that american city by lake
MM2_05.jpg

Chinese Axe,Sword & Chriot are heading southeast of Hangz
MM2_06.jpg

I've been MM cuzco for gold every turn so it produces units every turn and maximizes gold. It's at 10 (happy limit) and will grow in 7
machu is good production too, so maybe after library maybe forge -> colosus?
Very few units by Hangz.

I think giving up rome was a good idea, as that gave us some gold and saved units that could defend on hill.
