[MOD] Age of Discovery II

I do have one issue, however. I don't understand the reasoning behind not allowing Indentured Servants/Petty Criminals to have education, military service, or do missionary work. As far as missionary work is concerned, that may be a tiny bit of an exploit I suppose, but as for education or the military- these are the two main ways in the original Colonization of turning units from Indentured Servants/Petty Criminals into Free Colonists.

Thanks for the kudos on the Mod but I have to disagree with your thinking for PC and IS. In Col1 it was a huge exploit to convert them into something else through education. This was MUCH more evident in Col2 by training a CN immediately in the village it just popped from.

These three units are useless. They truelly are. In real life they contributed not much to society. Thus, you have to wait for them to serve their time before they become free men. And converted natives have to be taught in a colony to learn the European ways before taking up a European profession.
 
Why doesnt warehouse exp. and custom house sell off extensive goods. or goods that being thrown away. do i need to do something?

In Civ4CivilizationInfos.xml just change Playable and AIPlayable tags to 0 (zero).



Do you mean the intro video after turn 1? Or the achievement discovered the new world popup?

Thanks for the reply. I found that out myself as I wrote. The videos is the FOY and KINGDOW (it is the one after turn 1) I think. I am running 1600x1050 res. or something like that. Could this have something to do with it?
 
FOY and KINGDOW are just static images for Fountain of Youth and King Declare war on YOU events.

The intro movie is not really configured for that resolution.

Only reason they wouldn't is if they're boycotted.
 
Dale: I downloaded 1.01f from the official site. The upper right corner says "AgeofDiscoveryII" and my folder structure corresponds to the one you show in the above message. I also deleted temporary Internet files. Still crashes. Any other ideas?

From the Main Menu if you click Advanced then About does it show 1.01?
 
Make sure your directory structure is as below. If you have a "AoD2_1.11b" folder then move the "AgeOfDiscoveryII" folder down one level into the Mods folder.

Thanks Dale. My setup doesn't look exactly like yours. But at least I have the game running correctly. So far that is. I really enjoy your Mods. Keep up the good work. I just wish I had more knowledge about computer stuff. Thanks again.

I'm not sure what you mean by "in real life they contributed not much to society". Many, many people secured their passage to the New World by becoming an Indentured Servant because they could not afford passage. Your home country of Australia was populated largely by former inmates of debtors prisons.

I also don't see how something is an exploit if other players, or the AI, is just as capable of doing it as you are. It is undeniable that in real life people used the military or learning new professions to absolve them of debt they otherwise would have shouldered for the rest of their lives.

I agree with you about the Converted Natives- that was clearly just an oversight/mistake (one of many) on the part of the developers. But as far as Indentured Servants and Petty Criminals go; I think limiting what you can do with them severely limits your usable population in the game as they are the majority of unspecialized you receive.

Regardless of any of this though, is the code exposed for me to be able to change this in my own game? I am a programmer and it is not a big deal for me to do so, I just don't want to dig through every file in your project to find the applicable one.

Dale: The "advanced: build" says: colonization version 101; save version 2; build version 1.0.0.1 (121000).

I think that would be a good compromise. It would definitely make those units useful again. I think improving the options available for a player to use is always a good thing.
 
Dale and anyone else to who wants to chime in. When a stdent graduates you pick a profession for him. You must have an expert in the city where this happens. I don't seem to be able to bring up the city screen to see what I might want him to be. Is this normal for 1.11b?
 
You pick the speciality and pay after placing in school, not at the end of studies.

Place a student, hit end turn, and you'll get prompted for what to learn.
 
The mod looks great, only wish I could play it. I have the latest version of AOD and of the mod, but everytime I go to start a game, when I get to the civ/leader selection the game crashes. Any ideas how to fix this problem?

Why did you take away the option of being a pirate?

Because they sucked. No fun.

If you want to play Pirates open Civ4CivilizationInfos.xml and change IsPlayable and AIPlayable to 1.

Have you installed Firaxis patch? In Advanced --> About this Build it should say 1.01.

As per the previous discussion you've had with others, dale, i'm not to fond of the change regarding indentured servents & petty crimals not being able to be trained.

I tried to change it myself, but i'm at a loss of where to look. I tried to look in Unitinfos.xml & few other files but i find nothing obvious :/.


Oh and... whatcha talkin about pirates sucking? there awesome!! :P
