Mod error

@NotSoGood

Have you installed RoM correctly ie. there's 'Rise of Mankind' -folder in '..\Beyond the Sword\Mods\' -folder? Because from your log files I can see that no mod has been loaded.

@OwieB2003

Looked at your log files but didn't see anything going wrong there so at this time I don't know what caused the error.

if you do: follow the below for a clean reinstall - if this is Vista (I forgot ) then make sure you right click on all installers and choose run as administrator, same for patches.
If you don't have Warlords ignore those parts:

install the most recent version of DirectX 9c from Microsoft

then do the following for a clean reinstall:

Uninstall and Reinstall Civ4 Warlords BtS :

Try to follow this order when doing stuff:
Use Control panel to uninstall Beyond the Sword, then Warlords, then Civ4
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\beyond the sword" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\beyond the sword" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\beyond the sword" manually
(note: application data is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files, also these directories in application data are sometimes removed by the uninstall routine)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}" (Civ4)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{3E4B349F-10B5-4586-9D99-489A90A8B228}" (Warlords)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{32E4F0D2-C135-475E-A841-1D59A0D22989}" (BtS)
(note: InstallShield Installation Information is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files).
Install Civ4, immediately patch it to 1.61 (download it fresh from here)
Install Warlords, immediately patch it to 2.08 (download it fresh from here)
Install Beyond the Sword, immediately patch to 3.17 (download it fresh from here).

Reinstalling fixed my prob too, now I get to wait for MAFs just like everybody else. Heheh.

I was looking for the dxdiag results not the logs :)

anyway: the MAF error is due to either: you having too little memory, or you having enough memory but the mod creates games that use more than 2 GB of memory on a 32 bit windows - in that case something could be done. How much RAM does your computer have?

I tried hosting a medium sized game and it worked, altough after an hour or so I got a graphic memory allocation error.

But it works now, at least on Medium.

P.S I simply reinstalled RoM

It worked fine on Standard size to begin with, but now that I'm farther into the game I crash every 5-10 turns, it's literally impossible to play.

My laptop has only 2 GB RAM. :(

I loaded the RoM 2.51 MOD easily enough, but when I tried to run it I got the cover world screen with "Rise of Mankind" logo and that is as far as it would go. When I extract the RoM 2.52 patch I can't find an executable file.

I also have been getting frequent game crashes on huge maps with 18 or more civilizations. The message is bad memory allocation. It usually happens after I'm fairly advanced into the game - which is frustrating. I also get an error where my video device driver stops working properly. I changed my graphic settings but it still happens occasionally and I cannot seem to update the driver any further. So...if it is a memory issue...I have 2 x 1GB RAM, do I really need 2 x 2 GB ?

vogtmurr,

Did you install RoM 2.5 Full or 2.5 Megapack 1st? 2.51 is a patch as is 2.52.

There is no executable in RoM. The executable is found in BtS.

Unless you are asking if the Patch needs an executable to unzip.

The earlier version of RoM and even Megapack can cause some computers to get MAFs. Especially on huge and larger Maps with more than 12 Civs. Just too much info for the memory to process.

For you and NotSoGood the /3GB Switch may be useful, if you are using XP or XP pro and not Vista. You'll need to look thru the threads here for the link to the thread that tells you how to use it.

Otherwise use a smaller map size Or less Civs; and in some cases both.

Also, if you use XP, under Performance in My Computer /Properties/Advanced/Performance/Settings do Not let Windows set your visual memory settings. Use Best performance Or Custom. This allows the game to have more memory and reduces MAFs in some cases. It did for me and I only have 1.5 GB of ram.

Good Luck. :)

Thanks Joseph II. It is the 2.51 Megapack. The patch is also supposed to fix that but do I just leave it expanded in my mods folder and that's it ? The crash is one thing, but I can't even get to the game menu with RoM right now. I am using XP which I prefer, so if a memory upgrade will solve this without any penalty then it is worth it.

Civ4 and Warlords are not "largeaddressaware" by default - you can change that though in which case it would affect those as well as all their mods - there is a howto in that thread I linked to I think. BtS is largeaddressaware so it and all its mods are affected by this :)
