[MOD] Fall from Heaven II

Happydaz, there is a whole sub-forum for FfHII if you look further down, and every numbered patch has its own bug thread with the updates clearly listed. :)

Just need to do a little bit more looking!

When I meet Os-Gabella i always have 4 negative points of diplomacy (even when i'm evil civ) because " I lack Grace". why that? what can i do to fix it? thx!

that negative is against any male leader. to avoid it, play as a female.

Hello Mesix,

When I tried to do that it threw a major wobbly and the mod wouldn't start up.

Maybe I was doing something wrong. When I open the XML in notepad I can edit the values, save and close, but FFH will crash at start up.

Yup, I just discovered the same thing. Edited it in notepad, and i thought it worked. But then I couldn't play the game. I suspect that Notepad somehow changed it to a text file instead of an XML file.

Berst wishes,

Breunor

Dear Kael and all the Team,

I've been reading a fair number of pages of this thread and I do intend to read all of them as they're very interesting. This is a fantastic mod with tonnes of creativity, community involvement and responsiveness. :goodjob: If you can, would you be able to summarize the changes between the last vanilla version (0.23c) and the latest BtS version (0.30)? I'm deciding whether to start a multiplayer co-op with 0.23c, play FFH1 or buy Beyond the Sword right away and play the latest FFH2 version.

Speaking of FFH1/2 multiplayer, is it possible to play direct IP or does a game need to be played using PBEM? (since it would probably take longer than a single session to play a full multiplayer game)

Thanks again to Kael and All the Team for such a great mod! :D I look forward to your reply.

Best regards,
Steven.

Well... I'm pretty close to saying "Adios Amigos" to FfH as much as I enjoy the game. Since patch "g" (and given that I don't see anyone else complaining, I'm apparently the only one experiencing this issue!!), I've had three games on which I couldn't procede any further due to the "Send error report" message (THREE!!). And I'm getting them earlier than ever...

The last game I was playing Beeri Bawl of the Luchirps (huge Terra world) and I encountered this issue on turn 369.

I'm going to try one more game and if it happens again it's back to the standard (and now boring!) game of Civ 4 BTS. PLEASE let me know if you have found anything on this problem or if there's another game configuration (i.e. smaller world?) that I could use to avoid this error.

Thanks.

Perhaps you can make save games and send them in so others can look into them and hopefully find out the reason? Though I understand your annoyance, with the current rate of progress I'm sure a very stable version is just around the corner :)

What would you suggest for mana nodes? There are too many... I want to play a game with heavy spellcasting as my strategy but I cannot decide what nodes...or what civ, or religion....hehe

Advice?

Also, what's everyone's favorite race?

I like being the Vampires, but they feel a little overpowered.
I like being the Elves, but they too feel somewhat overpowered.

you might want to send in the savegames before the error happens, so Kael can fix it ;)

So there's a bug with the Lanun Harbor - sorry if this has been mentioned already, but it's pretty much near impossible to surf through 337 pages in this thread. [Sidenote suggestion: Why don't you start a NEW bug thread for each patch you make? That way you get more efficiency and less repetition]

The bug with the Lanun Harbor: You can't build boarding parties, because boarding parties require Harbors and the Lanun Harbor is apparently not a harbor. Which pretty much sucks if you're the Lanun. And yes, I had the proper tech for boarding parties.

take a look here:
Yep, that's a bug. You can easily fix it though, by updating the PrereqBuilding attribute on the unit from BUILDING_HARBOR to BUILDING_HARBOR_LANUN. You'll have to do it by hand (update CIV4UnitInfos.xml) as the editor seems to fall over with a bug in one of the scripts when trying to make this update.

Hey Guys form FfH 2 Team,

After more than a year without playing to your mod, i'm newly playing it. Great job, it's far more fantastic then it ever was before. :goodjob:

A question: is there any pre-made scenarii ? I dislike playing on random maps.

First off, HOW do I know when to send it in? Secondly, I've asked for input from the developers SEVERAL times and not gotten a response. Third, why do you think that they can fix it BEFORE it happens rather than when it is actually occuring? I'm a programmer (be it an old f*rt, but I have worked with Java, Visual Basic, and an exotic form of Basic) myself and I can tell you that when the error is NOT occuring is the toughest time to try to correct a problem -- I need to see the problem occurring in order to see what is going on (i.e. debugging it). I'm fairly certain that C++ (or whatever language it is) doesn't likely break this principle...

If the developers feel differently, then they can tell me and I hope they do.

I have... several times (i.e. submitted save games). I thnk that the game is great (haven't played normal Civ 4 BTS since I found it), but it is extremely frustrating to get so far in the game and then not be able to progress further. Though, in the last game, I didn't particularly mind since it was a REALLY sucky game...

Almost nothing in this thread is ever responded too... Just learn to live with it. If i ever got to talk to anyone that were actually working with the mod there are probably a dozen bugs i would want fixed but since that is basically impossible you just got to live with how the mod is...

I tried your last Ulric game you posted a save for and it CTD's for me too. It's something in your build queue or possible everything in it at once. I switch all your cities to culture for one turn and was able to go on then switch them all back and paused just the ones finishing in one turn still worked then each of the remaning cultures i switched back one at a time and it still worked so it has to be something in all of your production at once.

Screenshot from several turns later.

The optimum save game that is needed in order to find crash type issues is this: Right before it crashes.
We should be able to load the save file, make one simple move/attack/end turn or whatever triggers it (be sure to tell us what this is), and immediately watch the game crash.
Using this we may be able to find out why it is crashing.

Keep in mind that the results will not always be posted here, they would go in the resolved bugs section at the beginning of the bug thread in the subforum.

How often are you autosaving?

You can set it to autosave every turn. This can slow the game down, especially in the later stages, but it is invaluable for finding and fixing bugs.

Hian the Frog

Hey! Someone else like me!

Some time ago I made a scenario for an earlier version of FFH2 called "Terra Nova." It is probably still on the scenario boards, but it would not be compatible with the latest version, since FFH2 switched to the BTS system.

Anyway, I spent hours hand crafting a map with lots of features and surprises. And the CIV4 community yawned. I think that you and I are a minority, my friend. Either that or my map totally reeked and everyone was just too polite to say so.

Nevertheless, against my better judgement, I am currently working on a HUGE TERRAN map with all 19 FFH2 civs for the current version of FFH2. I have constructed it be very balanced for every civ. For example, regardless of your civ, you will always start bordering equal numbers of civs with different philosophy (good/evil/neutral), and never start right next to another civ that shares your same philosophy. Civs start in terrain that is back-story appropriate for their civ.

Plus the usual organic style map features.

Any interest in this? I was doing this for my own amusement, but I'm sort of at a point where I'm inclined to ditch it. I'd be happy to finish it and post it in the maps or scenarios section if anyone wants it, though.

If anyone out there is good at XML and Python coding, they could probably jazz up the map with some cool events and whatnot.

Your thoughts?
