[MOD] Fall from Heaven II

The clan should go for those marketplaces ALOT faster if they want to expand that fast... and then maybe even adopt Runes as their religion... this may be what you should consider for your next game...

Edit: 12 cities with market place gives you + 24 gold each turn so it should help ALOT...

And also, while I'm thinking about it. Would someone remind me (Kael?) just what the odds for Blight destroying a food resource is? 'cause as much as I've always been a staunch defender of Blight as it is.. My Lord I got screwed over but good and hard in my first game in Shadow.

I have a "grand" empire of maybe six cities and I think it must have been around turn 300 when Blight hit, and let's just say I couldn't count the number of food resources that I lost permanently on the fingers of both my hands.

Rice, bananas, pigs, sugar (didn't even know that one counted).. Oi vey!

I'm.. still not really advocating changing it, though. >.> But I do have a masochistic urge to know the percentages now..

(...) However, I was killed (maybe overkilled) by overexpansion - I always keep captured cities even in Bts and my monetary balance was slowly sliding to negative vallues. I expected this, fed my war machine by pillaging and rampaged on. However, as I eradicated the Grigori, i had yearly income cca -30gp, about 12 cities and no research. My units went on strike. (...)

I'm surprised you're getting inflation problems at Warlord level. What is the sequence of the first several techs that you researched?

I used to play a lot at Warlord level and didn't have too much trouble with inflation control. I moved up to Prince, which is lots tougher in this respect.

You might want to try the following: avoid games where you start in the middle of a heavily forested area (don't even bother starting with jungle). Try to get Calendar & Festivals as early as possible. Depending on available resources, Plantations can help finance a civ's early expansion. Markets are a must when building your second or third city. After you get these two techs, then go for Bronze Working (otherwise you're at risk of getting victimized of course!)

Look at your civics too -- by the time you build three or more cities you should have at least God King in place. As soon as you start capturing cities away from your capital be ready to switch to City States. In addition to that, use the cheapest civics you can get. Watch your finance screen (too many units can be expensive, which is why planning for great city production too early in the game can come back to haunt you!)

There aren't a whole lot of ways to make money in FfH. You got to manage techs and civics very carefully. Check your cities' specialists to maximize what you need -- one city for production, one for science, and one for... money! I hate to do this, but once in a while, you might have to switch one or more cities to generating only gold to avoid bankruptcy and strikes. If you have two good production cities, you might want to consider specializing one as an exclusive military center (leaving the other to build non-military wonders perhaps).

Here's a example of tech a research sequence that might work (opinions are welcome since everyone has their own preferences/experience):

Initially: Agriculture, Crafting (as appropriate to your civ)
1. Exploration
2. Calendar
3. Mining (or before Exploration if you have lots of unwooded hills and no good Plantation sites)
4. Festivals (try to time this one with your 2nd city)
5. Bronze Working (time to beat up a neighbor!)
6. Beeline toward a religion (you need Monuments and God King by now; Temples of Kilmorph also generate a good supply of cash)
7. Education (for City States)

After that... your game events and strategy should dictate what happens next, I would think. ;)

You lost them all?... as in permanently vanished?... not just lost the pastury or farm or plantation that was supplying them?!?

Damn... you had the worst luck ever...

I hope it's OK for me to start this here (let me know if it should be moved elsewhere).

I'm just curious to see what's everyone's favorite Civ in FfH-II, and least favorite as well. I can run the poll for several days (??). Feel free to PM me to avoid spamming this thread. I'll release results here if/when I have enough data. Please list ONE favorite & ONE least favorite. No comments needed.

Cheers!

You should probably do that in the Fall from heaven 2 forum, found here. But It's already been done, but not recently so I guess a new poll could be valid.

Thanks for the nice work on the mod! Still, people like me are still wishing more and more ;)

Would be nice, if you could add documentation in the Civipedia, which specifics each CIV really has.

For instance it is not obvious, that the Elves can build in forests, if you just read the Civipedia. Probably many other civs have advantages and disadvantages that are not shown as well.

Also I find the list of unique units a bit confusing for the non-experts. The flavour units and the real unique units seem to be mixed. This means, that there are units listed under unique units, that may just have a different name and appearance but the same stats. In case there is no really nice way to show this, it could be mentioned in something like a game stats paragraph in the text.

A description for all the CIVs pointing out their unique features would be really nice.

Which scenarios exist for FFH2?
I have seen the list Kael made in the first post. It points mostly to old scenarios and I am very unsure, if they will still work with the latest versions. Is there any way to know, if they are compatible with a certain version of FFH other than just trying?

Are there any new scenarios?
The scenario, which I liked most pre-BTS was Warring States, as it is more than just a map and starting locations, but I am again not sure, if it is still working. Even though it seemed to have a balancing issue, that the calabim were previledged...

Also, are those scenarios still "in balance"? Modifictions may have changed the balancing. Is anybody working on creating scenarios? Would it be possible to script the location of Hyborem appearing into a scenario?

I'm not sure what currently exists, but as I understand it, Ice (the final version of FfHII) is supposed to be entirely an official Kael scenario pack. I'm guessing maybe a new version of Age of Ice and other things of that sort. Since Shadow's been released and had several patches, I'm guessing it might be about time for that phase to start.

...I'm.. still not really advocating changing it, though. >.> But I do have a masochistic urge to know the percentages now..

Last thing I know is, that every single food resource has a 50% chance to be destroyed. But that was before shadow.I don't know if this chance has been changed - I had no blight so far.

All games I played since shadow had accidently a majority of good civs, and the few evil ones have taken Octopus Overlords, Council of Esus or Fellowship of Leafs (Clan seems to like Fellowship - they've taken it twice in recent games). Someone foundet the Ashen Veil, but nobody converted to it, and it seems to spread much slower if it's no state religion.

So my highest AC in any recent game was about 20.

You mean something like the "Hellfire" Armageddon event, only with a bunch of new models that'll only get used for a single event, which may or may not show up in any given game?

I was thinking the same thing... sounds like ALOT of work for nothing (or pretty much nothing at least).

On the plus side: Happy New Year everybody!!! (wont be home tomorrow so I better write it now) :king:

After just finishing up a lllooonnnggg game (Inland Sea, Huge Map), I have several questions and issues that I hope can be answered.

1. Is there ANY way to stop having another civilization as a vassal? Close to the start of the game I had two "evil" (Faeryl and Perpentach) civs approach me and ask if they could be my vassal (Hyborem also asked, but it is always my intent to wipe him off the face of the map!!). Like an idiot I said "yes"... Later Capria brought Basium into the game and immediately he started declaring war on the "evil empires" (I'm pretty sure it was Basium and not Capria since she was also quick to agree to peace -- even after two or three turns). I tried to give them the "Order" which was my religion, but probably because they didn't have the forerunner technologies I couldn't do so. Well... I would up being in "wars" about nine times in the game (even though Basium was obviously far weaker than I and at least one of my vassals -- Faeryl eventually turned to the Order. Since I couldn't get Perpentach to switch, I REALLY wanted to drop him as a vassal (since my cities were in revolt), but it told me I couldn't do it. Is there ANY way to drop a vassal?

2. OK... As I said above, my cities were going into revolt (I belonged to the Overcouncil and they voted for Liberty that gives a BIG increase in war weariness -- Capria and Basium voted as a block to gain control and, being stupid, I only voted "No" when the issue of Liberty came up). Much of their unhappiness was due to the fact that "I was considered a villian by the world". OK... I didn't start the wars so I wouldn't THINK that was the issue. Was it because I used Death Mana or is there another reason?

3. Bug? Since I couldn't switch out of Liberty and go to Social Order that would have decreased my war weariness (I KNEW that Basium would declare war again!!), I attempted to quit the Overcouncil. It doesn't appear as if you can ONLY quit the Overcouncil (or join it as I found in another game) by itself. The button for "Revolution" pops up, but nothing happens when you click it. I just returns to the game with no changes.

4. The Guild of Hammers. Is there any way to increase the changes it will spread to another city. I usually am the founder of the guild, but rarely if ever do I get the prompt to spread it to another city. Is there a method to increase the chances of this happening? In my last game the question NEVER came up despite the fact that I founded the guild pretty early in the game (I love the automatic forge you get in every city!!).

5. Lastly... There is DEFINITELY a performance issue in some games (I submitted a save earlier in the month to Nikis-Knight). It is taking as long as couple of minutes between turns and, as I stated earlier, every fourth or fifth turn it aborts with a "Send error report?" message. I had never experienced this with FfH before Shadow (I almost quit the last game out of frustration because of this).

Thanks for any input you provide!!! I still think it's a fantastic game.

I downloaded the FfH recently and I like it very much from the start. It's really a capital project!!!

I have some suggestions:

1.please add some more info in civilopaedia. The background stories are really beautiful, but (regret to say) useless most of the times. You should add smtg like "FfH concepts" and bring the gameplay closer to us 'realism' players.
2.i might be wrong about this, but i noted lack of scenarios for this mod. those that exist (land of dragons, 5kings, fantasy island...) usually crash the game.
3.when a good religion (e.g. Order) spreads to an evil Civ, it instantly becomes good. that doesn't make much sense, does it. you should make good religions less prone to spread to evil cities, or at least make a smooth transition evil-neutral-good...
4.Make some flowcharts that show the sequence of promotions, spells, upgrades etc.

Patch "f" is linked in the first post. It will break save games and it fixes the following issues:

1. Fixed an issue that can cause civics to be enforced even if the players isn't a member of the Overcouncil.
2. Fixed the Slave Escape and Slave Revolt events.
3. Domination can no longer capture multiple copies of the same unit.
4. Fixed an error in the Adventure event.
5. Fixed a CtD caused by capturing Hidden Nationality units through setXY (usually caused when capturing a city with a privateer/pirate in it).
6. You can no longer duplicate equipment by picking it up with a group.
7. Fixed the affinity bug (thanks to Snarko!).

Omegon,

The 'can I get rid of my vassals' is a regular lament in regular BtS; go over to the BtS forum and you will probably see a post on this every 2 weeks. I suspect that he rules in FfH are just the same as in BtS.

The key 'problem' with Vassals is that it seems like people don't understand what they are getting. My rule of thumb is that if you don't know if you want the vassal, don't take it. In regular BtS, they start culturing back the cities you took by force and it is hard to get them backl Unlike FfH, in real BtS they also send endless spys to mess you up. But I guess that the overcouncil can also make things worse in FfH.

I guess the moral of the story is not to vassilize evil when you are good of the opposite.

I'm also having severe performance problems relative to BtS.

Best wishes,

Breunor
