[MOD] Fall from Heaven

Might i suggest that you leave this "mod" just the way it is and separate from FfH2. Reason this mod is almost completely different, ie FfH2 has way different types of units than FfH. Only change this (FfH) if and when a problem occurs but to me this is almost a finished product. A beginning game and FfH2 is a , well completely better one but less units.
Of course this is only my opinion and you what they say about opinions? LOL

Yeap, thats the plan.

Hi there,

first of all, thx for this fantastic mod I've been playing in the last week! And hoping to start playing soon with FfH2 :)

But there's a but :P

My PC goes overheating every time I play with your mod after I start reaching turn number 50-100, making me have to use alt-tab till the temperature of my cpu goes back to normal.
The first time I do it it leaves 30 minutes more to play till it happens again and after that it happens more often till I can play 5-10 minutes a time with pauses of 10 minutes.

It only happens when I'm playing this mod (not that I've played many mods, just this, Sevomod and the normal civ4).

I've tried killing all my workers or starting new games.. never tried using smaller worlds, I always play with continents and Huge setting and all the graphics are set at low (my pc is a little old AMD 2500+ barton, 9500 Ati Sapphire) with 1024x768, no zoom, no animations, should I try lowering something more or are there some tweaks?

I hope you may come up with something because I love this mod.

The mod doesnt directly have any hardware impact. It sounds like your video card may be running to hot for your fan to handle. I am surprised that you dont have the same symptoms when playing vanilla civ. Do you play any graphic intense programs like half-life2?

You will want to make sure your fan is working (you should hear it kick on when your computer gets warm) and that your computer is in a well ventalated area (it doesnt do it much good to be packed in a drawer without a clear area behind it to vent into).

Yes, it's strange..

My asus probe (my MB is an ASUS) starts Pinging me saying the temp is too high (reaches 76°C).. never tried Half Life 2.

But I confirm that with normal Civ4 or Sevomod this problem never occurred.

I even tried disconnecting my adsl and shutting off my antivirus and the firewall.

Anyways, thx for answering.

P.S. the pc is under my table, nothing blocking the vent behind it.. maybe it's just summer that's starting!!!Have to install some airconditioning.. by the way I'm from Italy!

Ciao to all civ fanatics :)

Italy? Well then I think this problem is more serious than I origionally expected. You need to send me a plane ticket so I can come take a look at what is happening first hand. ;)

I know the mod is irresitable - but if your computer is overheating all the time, you better find a solution because it can cause permanent damage. I would get a technician to look at it.

In the mean time, play the smaller world... no choice.

@Cirlfax
Have you checked for dust build-up? As far as your GPU, a map full of trees and jungle will run hotter more than anything in civ4.

Ok Kael, and u Chalid?Wanna come too to Italy?... ehehe

PMing you a plane ticket :P

@Smidlee: I already do some regular cleaning with some compressed air.
but this would mean that temps would go high for anything not just this application, but thx for the concern! :)

I'll see what happens with smaller worlds and will get back at you..

Ciao

Regarding overheating:

I had severe overheating-issues on this very computer running Civilization, WarCraft, StarCraft. I was planning to replace my fan, but instead decided to vacuum clean the CPU-fan in particular and the rest of the computer. Temperature dropped from ~70 degrees celcius to a healty, normal ~35.

If you decide to vacuum your fan, do not apply to much air-pressure to the fan. This can break its blades. Vacuum from a safe distance. High pitched whirling means the fan's spinning faster than it's supposed to.

Fellow players of this great mod, I have a favor to ask of you.

I started a SG game. One of the players seems to have trouble using the saved game file.

I ask that you try this simple test: download the saved game, and check if you can use it: load it, then end the turn. If that's the case, then please contact me (PM or a post in the SG thread) that you are able to use my saved game file.

You need to have version 1.00f installed in order to test the saved game!

I want to know if the source of the problem is my saved game or the player having the trouble in question.

Thanks in advance for taking the time for this

It loads fine for me. I suspect that he may be running a different version. Also if he has any files in his custom assets directory it will detect it as a different version and ctd on load.

could be your fan malfunctioning .. happened to me too .. my fan didnt work right i had to replace my cooling fan on the cpu check it out go into the bios see what rpm the fan is spinning when you start it should start up a few k rpm from the get go and slow down a little when you go idle if its slow from the get go replace your fan asap or you will fry your cpu

Me and my friend were playing FfH 1.0f multiplayer over LAN. Unfortunately, there seemed to be some problems with the Apocalypse spell - when I cast it, I ended up in war with myself, so that when I moved my own units into the same square they attacked each other (I thought this one had been fixed before?). Also, though I had built Blood of the Phoenix for this express purpose a couple of turns ago, none of my units with the Immortal promotion respawned. (Though this might've been caused by the fact that I was in war with myself.)

Hey I was just wondering, I remeber Rhye of Civilization's thread had to be closed because it reached too many posts and it was a server problem. Will this one have to be closed too?

Don't know, its up to Thunderfall.

I'm sure this has been discussed, but I didn't find it while poking around this massive thread:

Is there a way to flag some units (I'm thinking fireballs/meteorswarms/fire elementals/demons and all golems) as not inducing war weariness? I think that the severe (even with appropriate buildings/civics) WW could be from losing so many summoned units.

If this has been addressed, could you let me know which post (or at least which century!)

Thats an interesting thought, I dont think its ever been considered. Hmm..

Your right though, I just checked the code. I will enter an item on the wish list (it will probably only be addressed in FfH2) but I think its a great idea to exclude summoned units and spells from WW if they are killed.
