FYI... just to keep excitement high, I have found the major 1.61 incompatibility and addressed it. It won't be in the first patch, as the game is really not in good state in 1.61, with lots of xml errors and such. However, it's just to let you know that the problems are now just a matter of time - the big technical risk has been evaluated and addressed.

No, it's my fourth language :). Anyway, I think it's primarily the Keshiks attacking strength in combination with their fast movement that's making them too strong. I havn't tested them on Emperor diff or higher but on Monarch I were able to conquer all of Russias ~15 cities in about 10 turns. No kidding, Russia was the 2nd civ scorewise and I ran through their Swordsmen and even Pikemen faster then they were able to say "overpowered". Although I had about 50 of them Keshiks... ;)
As for suggestions to balance them, say increase their cost by maybe ~25-35% and lower their strength a bit. Don't nerf the movementrate because that's what's making them special and fun to use.

Played my first 1.0 game now and got of a perfect start with Cyrus on Immortal diff. Captured four barbarian cities and declared war on Saladin with a decent stack of Immortals. Captured all of his cities except for the capitol (walls, 70% terrain, 5 hyp and 4 archers was just too damn hard to breach), took the lead in score and made peace with Saladin to deal with maintancecost and unhappy population. Declared war on India not long after since I needed to expand to the east as well. The fun ended though when I only managed to capture one city and Greece decided to backstab me. Their about 20 Phalanx cut through my Chariots and Immortals with ease and when Saladin joined the party, wanting some of his towns back I was more or less toast.

I did not find anything worth balancing this time, the Immortals were useful but not too useful. Well balanced.
One thing bothered me this run though - the loading times. As I have a dual-core AMD3800 and 2GB ram I never experienced this problem before. I will start up another game soon and see if it happens again.
Tho I'll likely stick with Emperor diff this time, Immortal was just too damn hard. Any specific civ youd like me to play?
 
Is this part of the 1.61 crash? I loaded 1.61 and Realism 1.0 and got this as my opening screen...

AS you can see, all the selections are blank. Not only on the opening screen; but all the selections.

Thank you for your very exciting report. It is good to know what is happening. Not all UU are extremely powerful. Some are more and some are less scary.

Mongolian UU shall be te worst UU ever seen in the game. The reason for that is easy, Mongolian were the only civ through out the history that throughly conquered almost the world. The sound of their UU shall make scar everyone.
I don't know how you could manage to build 50 of them :lol: but increasing their cost about 25% sound reasonable to me. I am wondering how Pikemens couldn't hold you back.

The Persian Immortal will be moved to Archery Unit instead of Hyapist. This will nerf their defense a bit, since these Units are not meant to be for city defense, have attack AI as well and are more costly. But they should come a bit sooner before Axeman stops them.

Egyption 'Nubian' Bowman will get another 1FS-Chance (not FirstSTrike) and 10% vs. Melee.

I am glad that the Greeks have betrayed you and cut through you with their Phalanx, and you couldn't stop them. Now you feel how we poor Persians have felt as these Macedonians have invaded us in real life. ;)
One tip: Your only chance to stop them is the Axeman. The Persian Axeman have breached the Phalanx formations, it was the other non-Persian Iranian Units that have lost their morale and flanks to the Greeks.

I have tried to simulate this and have given Axeman bonuses vs. Phalanx and Spearman. But the Odds are still 50/50. So build them and try to stop these Greek hordes, for God sake!!! ;)

Play whichever Civ you like... the fact that you are playing different ones is good. I would eventually like feedback from all the Civ's so go with whichever soots your fancy.

As for the loading time I haven't noticed anything to bad so far even though I only have an AMD 3500 with 2GB RAM I do have 2 SATA Raptor Drives in a RAID 0 configuration so that might be helping my load times.

Is anyone else experiencing these Issues?

@Houman - If Ayahuasca is having such an easy time with the Mongols on Monarch level then I would definitely say they should be giving a cost increase and maybe a reduction in strength a Tad.

This Mod is not compatable with version 1.61 Yet :sad: but it is being addressed :) :goodjob:

Yeah, impressive AI. I love the timing of Greece invasion that game. I had almost all my units over in India and my defences in the two cities I suppose Alexander had in mind consisted of Immortals and a couple of Chariots I was going to use for my 2nd run for Saladins capitol. His stacks of Phalanx/Axemen had no trouble capturing those cities, I tell you. ;)

Ah, nevermind the loading times issue, it was just a result of me forgetting I had a Usenet client downloading @1mb/s. My bad. :lol:

My current game is Egypt on Emperor difficulty and I'm doing great. Expanded relatively quickly and aimed for War Chariot. Got four of them and captured Nubia and soon after realized that Saladin was doing pretty bad trying to capture the barbarian cities north of him. After he lost a couple of more units I declared war and captured the two small cities and started pillaging his improvements. That pissed him off and I finally got him to move out two of the six archers protecting his über capitol, making it possible for me to finally make a move. And HAH, I eventually got it.

Now i'm 2nd in score to Russia (damn, Catherine's gonna dominate this game badly!) and doing my best to spread Judaism across the world. Hopefully found Buddhism as well before any of the lame european countries does. I will need that extra $ later on.

The War Chariot is pretty powerful, although not too powerful I think. They make short work of the barbarian cities before they get Hypaspist but I still think they're pretty well balanced.

Whoa, damn seems I've been sitting here all day today as well. As I make a living playing online poker I can't say I don't have alot of sparetime, but still... I'm addicted! :)

BTW, Houman - I know Mongolias Keshik Archers were powerful, played a vital part in history and that this is a realistic mod, still I don't know but it feels like they're equipped with machineguns instead of bows. ;)
 
:lol: no worries, I have made both Mongolian UU 25% more expensive. That will slow down their production about 1/4 and give time others more time for defense.

We have to make these adjustments step by step. If they still are toooo powerful, the next patch will nerf them a bit more....
 
Can anyone direct me to the 1.51 patch. I think Ineed it to do a dual install.(Do I ?) I reinstalled Civ 4 to play this mod, now I can't find 1.51. Please help !

Yep, found that out too. And it's logical, the Great People Mod is based on the regular Great People, not on the additional Great General.

Yes it is savegame compatible. I used it on my own save game and its fine.
Only the raze city won't get reseted until you start a new game on the map.

I'm sorry I have a the old patch but forgot to upload it to the Mod folder. Will do so tonight and also post it here unless anyone else can do it before 5pm CST.
 
I was going to post that the patch is ready for download, but Houman already did. That's what I get for not reloading the page before I post. :)

Wow you guys work harder than most game developers. Nice work on that patch. If only i didn't have to go to german class I could play right now. We are studing the Umwelt in Deutsch so when i get back, maybe I'll play as the germans and try to spread eviromentalism to all the civs. (btw did any one see the show on discovery called future weapons...the Germans have in production now a very cool field gun than can shoot 5 rounds about 60km and have them all hit at the same time. Very cool stuff)
 
I love this mod but i have problems. Since i use this mod, (started with v1.0) the waiting time on end of turn takes at least 10 times longer as before. The problems started arround 700bc and sometimes i have to wait for more then 5 minutes for my next turn. The delay happens at the point when the little message "waiting for other civilizations" at the bottom appears.
I have no problems with waiting when playing a game without the mod. But i dont want to play without this mod.
Anyone know what to do?

Strange, I cant get the mod to work proper. When I load the mod I come into the game but all text are missing from the startmeny, got into the mod /I know the buttons by memory) and the problem continues there, no text at all but other grapifx work ok.

Never had any problems before with alots of other mods. Anyone know a solution?
