I recently came upon some money and was surfing through the intarwebs looking at various 3D models. Would it help the mod to buy any of these and if I did, would they be used/useful?

Please let me know if you're looking for anything specific or need it in a specific format, I've played this mod and love it/would like to help in some small way.

That is a very generous offer, and I definitly appreciate it. But we are a long way from a release date so I hate to have you spend money on a model when there is little chance to see the inclusion anytime soon.

Contributing to the wiki is an excellent way to help out the mod. We would also appreciate community members that are willing to seduce gaming magazine editors to get good reviews of FfH written.

well you could buy a copy of 3D Studio Max 7 and then send it to me, so i can create new original and "fitting the mod" models and animations :) right now i can only texture and nif edit ;) (which is still powerfull...)

no, the best way to help the mod is spread news/ publicity about it, try to catch the attention of the news magazines ;)

This is probably a stupid Question, but what has Firaxis said about this mod (if anything)?

So far i know:

"Very impressive mod, Kael"... Soren Johnson (Lead designer of Civ4)

:king:

Well, we're mentioned in the readme for Warlords, IIRC.

Firaxis is a big fan of FfH (especially since it means more sales for them). They would probably prefer we converted FfH to Warlords, but they haven't said anything about it. Soren Johnson (Lead Designer of Civ4 and heck of a nice guy) was good enough to post in the FfH1 thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=3596926&postcount=1728) way way back and since that time Ive been lucky enough to exchange emails and such with him. I've had the opportunity to correspond with a bunch of the guys at Firaxis and they have all been amazingly nice and helpful. I can't say enough good things.

If you buy Sid Meiers Civilization Chronicles it comes with a book called 'The Chronicles of Civilization' which talks through the history of the game and includes the following paragraph written by Soren:

The most popular Civ IV mod so far is Kael’s Fall from Heaven, a fantasy conversion which adds spell-casting, heroes, and a rich back-story to the game. In fact, the mod has attracted enough interest to merit its own sub-forum on CivFanatics, dedicated solely to its development. At this point, the most advanced Civ mods are highly-complex team efforts – for example, Kael lists 11 “major contributors” to his project, a wiki is being developed with info on the mod, and a number of scenarios are even being developed by outside modders using Fall from Heaven as a base.

why not use Blender..? It can import/export nifs just fine, and while it isnt 3d Studio, I find it to be quite powerful enough for me. And hell, its free...

Edit: I'm still pretty much a modeling noob so.. maybe you are using it and thats what you mean, heh. But I was able to use it to alter an FfH model to suit my tastes just fine.

Doesn't blender have issues with Nif Viewer? I tried it and it says the Nif version is too old. :gripe:

You have to config you export script. See in my signature for the tutorial.

The wiki is just three months old and it is already referenced in a book about Civilization... Ho yeah ! :)
I'm very proud to work on a thing which have been seen by the Gods of Firaxis

Yeah, I read your tutorial earlier today and configured it. With a little work in NifViewer, the models are working great now (except the gloss map for some odd reason...).

Thanks!

Blender script do not export more than 1 texture on the same model (so no gloss map), but you can add it via NifViewer, I think (see Rabbit, White 3th tutorial on the NifViewer)

Actually, I meant that after adding the gloss map in NifViewer, it still doesn't work.

Sometimes it doesn't work with any textures, like for a mana node improvement I was working on. Other times it seems to work fine (like on a modified Pikeman I wanted to use for the Malakim Immortal) except for the gloss map. Added a Specular property and everything.

 Well, Nifviewer is Rabbit White speciality, I can't say anything. In fact I do not use the viewer anymore because of my new graphic card. The viewer do not work with some ATI Cards. I use NifSkope and it's quite similar (the big difference is that Rabbit White didn't write any tutorial about it).
