Modified Scenarios Workshop

Hello Tootall, I have verified that in the scenario you must act as indicated by Catfish in the conversion conversion:

"5. The Converted Scenario Crashes the Game
With CivConverter 1.4 beta, the conversion process is far from perfect and on occasions you may find yourself with a converted scenario that crashes the game. I am aware of two causes that are directly attributable to CivConverter:
(...)

Hi Gapetit,

Though I've been designing for a number of years, I don't believe I've ever done hex-editing before so I'm not really familiar with the process. I will take a look though. Thanks for the information.

I have the total conversion of that scenario ... I raised it a few years ago at the request of Techumseh ... because for reasons that only concern me, I will never include a scenario where the protagonists are the Nazis ... If you ask me I will include it for a while in Modified Scenarios and then I will erase it. If you want to modify it and add it in downloads permanently, I do not mind. I do not consider myself responsible for the decisions of others.

Hi Gapetit,

I would never ask a fellow community member to do something they felt uncomfortable with and as such I fully respect your position.

From my own personal perspective, as a designer, I would never want my scenarios to be seen as a glorification of war in general or of that brutal and inhumane regime in particular. My designs are simply meant as an honest portrayal of historical events, which as we all know in our planet's past is mired in military conflict. As a player, I find myself drawn by the historical context of each conflict of course but also, primarily by the intellectual challenge that each individual scenario poses, i.e. given the balance of forces involved can I achieved x objective(s) within a delimited time frame.

That said, I've already completed the conversion of the Norwegian Campaign scenario and therefore would not ask you to send your files. All I'm waiting for, before uploading it, is to see if Tanelorn can provide a newer version of the bicycle units.

Thank you for helping me with my little conversion projects!

The Operation Herbstnebel conversion looks fantastic. I haven't played this scenario in many, many years and I'm about to fire it up to help pass a sleepy twelve hour Sunday shift. Thanks Tootall.

Hi McMonkey,

Of course all the credit for the scenario should go to DarthVeda. All I did was update his graphics and make it compatible with ToT and ToTPP. That said, like all your own scenarios, his is very well designed and very challenging.

Out of curiosity, did you have the opportunity to read my last email providing feedback on your final Korean War Redux version? My last playtest was a real battle royale.

It's funny how things are, but looking for Tootall the structures of Hex Editing, I thought that if I could locate the failure in the units that causes the conversion of some scenarios (no city appears or none), and that made them disappear with time. His solution working on scenario was very heavy and not very rewarding... But with Hex it could be different. And it goes and I give with the codes . And I think Tootall that you are going to have to use a Hex, because it solves many problems :mischief:.

Replace to NONE:

No Orders:

<bh:ff>X<bh:00><bh:00><bh:ff><bh:ff><bh:00><bh:ff>
<bh:ff>X<bh:00><bh:00><bh:ff><bh:ff><bh:ff><bh:ff>

Fortify:

<bh:ff>X<bh:00><bh:00><bh:01><bh:ff><bh:00><bh:ff>
<bh:ff>X<bh:00><bh:00><bh:01><bh:ff><bh:ff><bh:ff>

Fortified:

<bh:ff>X<bh:00><bh:00><bh:02><bh:ff><bh:00><bh:ff>
<bh:ff>X<bh:00><bh:00><bh:02><bh:ff><bh:ff><bh:ff>

Replacing the first record with the second with Hex, the NONE is reassigned to the units according to the scenario they are in. And voilá: problem solved

Sorry, that explanation went right over my head, i.e. meaning I didn't understand a thing :crazyeye::).

It looks like I'm going to have to do some homework if I want to understand the process. I know there's some documentation on hex-editing out there.

Hi Gapetit,

Thank you for posting your Norwegian files (which I've already downloaded), though I'm a little uncertain if you are posting them only temporarily for my benefit and plan to remove them as soon as possible. Or whether you are posting them officially for all to use, in which case there would be no further reason for me to post and upload my version.

Could you confirm which is the case?

Thank you as always.

P.S.: I see that we used a lot of the same graphics for both the terrain and units, though in some cases I clearly prefer some of your unit choices :)!

Hello Tootall,

I'm not going to publish that scenario .

I have deleted the file :bump:, so you can use your copy as you want :yup:.

The units are not bad, but I think Tanelorn can improve some of them .

Saludos :hatsoff:

I do not understand much either, but let's go... The little I know I learned it from Catfish and from the file I attached (A conversion does not require an expert level... por suerte)

You will tell me how you are going

Un saludo

Hi Gapetit,

Thank you for confirming. In that case I will proceed with the upload once I received confirmation from Tanerlon on whether he can improve the two bicylce units.

In the meantime, I've taken the liberty of swapping some of my terrain and unit graphics with yours ( I especially liked your Melting Snow, Glacier, German Paratrooper and Mountain units graphics (amongst a few others)).

I had never actually had the oportunity to play this scenario prior to making the conversion. If players decide to download it I think they will discover it's actually a little gem.

P.S.: Thanks for the hex editing document.

Tootall,

I did get your e-mail and I really appreciate the feedback. At the time I received it I was very busy and didn't really have the time to formulate a reply and I kind of forgot about it. I will certainly go back and look at the scenario and use the date you have given to improve it. It sounds like the strategy you adopted gave the results I was looking for, but I need to find a way to prevent players from adopting your original strategy as it does not produce the outcome I envisioned. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your game!

Hi McMonkey,

Thanks for the reply. I was simply curious to see if you had received my feedback and whether it proved useful. As always, feel free to use my recommendations as little or as much as you like.

Hi Tanelorn,

I was planning on releasing the converted Norwegian Campaign sceanrio this weekend. Did you have a chance at converting the bicyle units? If you were planning on having a go at it, I can wait. If you didn't believe you could proceed with the change, that's okay too. I would proceed with the upload in that case.

Hi MacGalleo,

Welcome back to the community. It's always great to hear from our all members.

I don't believe I've ever played Harlan's scenario before but your conversion looks very sharp!

Thank you for this contribution and hopefully many more.

Hi all,

Eivind IV World War II scenario “THE NORWEGIAN CAMPAIGN ” has been converted for ToT and can be downloaded from the CivFanatics download section located here.

EDIT: A big thank you to Gapetit for his assistance in the conversion of this scenario.

Thanks total for your words. I plan to convert Harlan Thompson's Lord ou the rings scenario and a another one about warhammer I got several years ago in a french magazine.

It's been years since I converted a scenario, and it seems I no longer can. Can't seem to change directory locations on DOS prompt, and I can't get CivConverter to run. So, if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

Or...:mischief: If someone would convert this for me, it would solve the problem. It's an old beta Operation Sealion scenario, long since abandoned by its author. I need a break from my intermittent work on Burma, and this looks like a simple and fun project. I should be able to finish it over the Christmas break. Many thanks in advance.

Hi Tech,

As requested, I converted the scenario SCN file for you. To date I manually convert all the other images and text files because the converter usually does a bad job at modifying them.
