I have never looked into your mod^n yet, and I am not a very frequent DoC player in general. I like to play other RFCs, and there are also other reasons too, but now I think I am about to give it a try, mainly out of curiosity but also because I read through this topic and I liked your ideas. But tell me please if in your mod, there are all these things which make Leoreth feel better about himself, such as removing the word jungle so that the blacks are not offended, female great people, extra non-european stuff to fight eurocentrism, enviromentalism civic and such?[/mod]

I have never looked into your mod^n yet, and I am not a very frequent DoC player in general. I like to play other RFCs, and there are also other reasons too, but now I think I am about to give it a try, mainly out of curiosity but also because I read through this topic and I liked your ideas. Oh yes, I vastly expanded all of these features! There are numerous new civilizations in my modmod, such as the Tohono O'odham, the Sentinelese, and the Palestinians. Of course, due to the limited number of civs slots I had to remove some too, like America, England and Greece, but they were all overrated white imperialists anyway and their impact greatly exaggerated by the white patriarchal establishment. I also had to remove several leaders like Hitler, Mussolini and Franco because they offended me, as well as most male Great People. But don't worry, there are many new Great People to replace them, and not a single one of them a white male! Anita Sarkeesian, George Soros and Zoe Quinn are just some of the big names!

I replaced the imperialist-capitalist-hetero-patriarchal Conquest and Domination victories with the less offensive Social Justice and Environmentalist victories. This also ties in with the new Cultural Marxism mechanic, which rewards players who abolish everything that might offend someone, a daunting task indeed. Every regular unit is now at least 50% female or LGBTQ2*, and the Pasture and Camp improvements have been replaced with Communes. The Capitalism, Free Market and Free Speech civics have all been removed because they offended me, instead you now have the ability to adopt Political Correctness, Multiculturalism and Matriarchy.

I also added a ton of new random events, in which you can react to disasters like manspreading, white privilege and the wage gap, but also act on opportunities which will greatly benefit social justice, such as making Black Lives Matter official state doctrine, instilling white guilt in your privileged population, or unquestioningly accepting literally all refugees on the entire planet.

In short, my modmod is a safe space in which you won't find a single offensive thing that could possibly trigger you!

Btw, I love your modmodmod (how many levels of mod-ception are we on now?). It suits my tendency to play as more of a builder than a conqueror in these kinds of games.
 
At some point I arbitrarily declared DoC to be a mod proper, so by all rights this is a modmod now. Or Knoedel forsakes his allegiance to DoC completely and crowns himself mod maker as well :)
 
Thanks for the praise, everybody. I considered telling this person that I'm literally a communist and whatever fears they might have about Leoreth being some sort of hyper politically correct SJW, I am at least ten times worse. But then I thought, nah, let's roll with this.

Awesome! I got to get to playing this mod. Perhaps after my modded Vox Populi civ 5 playthrou. Leoreth's sense of humor is classy as well.

Ah yes, Vox Populi, I gotta continue my game with it sometime. Or start a new one, knowing me. :lol: Fantastic mod, absolutely, but it unfortunately can't escape the limitations of 1UPT even with all the brilliant new mechanics it adds. Every game I played as a warmonger I abandoned because it just got tedious micromanaging carpets of doom. Then there's frustrating stuff like awful city placement, eternal awful city placement if it's a city state or a capital, which is ironic considering canal cities actually have both economic and military uses in 5 which just makes it even worse when I find a city state one tile off a glorious canal spot, which happens more than I can count. For a while Vox Populi included a super fort mod which made forts and citadels act like cities, which at least somewhat alleviated that issue, I don't understand why they removed it in a later version. Ah well, it is what it is, and it's certainly a lot better than the unmodded game.

You're welcome. Is this because I made buildings so much more powerful or due to another reason? One would think with the practically doubled movement every unit has this mod should be a conqueror's playground.

Oh no, unless you go off the deep end and introduce stuff like 1UPT or arbitrary penalties like 5's Venice or 6's Congo (I once spent an entire week arguing on Reddit about this when it was announced) I will parasitically cling to you like, um, something that parasitically clings to something. See, I'm incapable of coming up with an original thought myself. :lol:

I'am a ashamed "Canadian". But I everyday view ("attentively expressed"): RT Moscow, southfront.org, the Youtube channels R&U Video's and Russia Insider! So... perhaps that makes me a a despicable traitor, or a unfortunate victim of manipulation and brainwashing, or a sort of (dare i say it)... pseudo-communist ("snicker snicker"). Lets just say if i had a passport (my excuse anyways) i would have long ago volunteered to fight for the People's Republic of Donetsk. Having since maybe pissed my pants and assumed the fetal position, met a glorious, or not, death on the battlefield, found a place that i would call home, or at least, in my eyes, righted a wrong (or sot revenge) against my fellow westerners. HA!

It's definitely because most buildings are more powerful, but also it helps that more civilizations are able to establish viable colonies. I love settling ahistorical areas.

The extra movement on units is a nice bonus though, I'll admit. It helps a dummy like me manage wars more effectively.
 
Out of curiosity, how long did it take you to learn to mod, Knoedel? And how much background knowledge/skills on programming did you have before? Was this your first experience?
I'm asking since the thought has been lurking in my head as well for some time, but my initial background and skills are zero :)

Well, I actually learned programming in school, so that was certainly a plus. This is really my second major modding project, my first was a modmod for Legends of Revolution which I have since abandoned, and there it was really only XML edits because I never got around to figuring out how to compile a DLL. XML edits are about the most easy thing you can do, though it might take some trial and error to find out what tag does what, which is pretty much what I did for my LoR modmod.

This mod first started out as XML edits too, and because I already knew for the most part what did what and where to find what, I could whip up the first version of this mod within a day or two once I had my mind set to it.

I found my way around Python pretty quickly too once I had a need for it, but for the most part I just look how the rest of the file I'm in handles something and then I imitate it.

It took several guides and failed attempts until I finally managed to compile DoC's DLL.In the meantime I did manage to compile the unmodded game's DLL, so I tried my hand at modding there a bit to create my Enhanced Culture mod, but apparently I'm missing something because for some inexplicable reason it seems to cause a gamebreaking bug so I abandoned that too. What I was able to do however was copypasting code for this or that feature from other mods, which is how I got the Cultural Golden Age, Ranged Strikes and River crossing consumes all movement mechanics here. Also I could finally make some minor changes to UPs and wonders that had until then be impossible for me.

There are lots of guides on this side for every little thing related to modding, and they helped me quite a bit, so they will probably help you too. :)
