Monarch advancing to Emperor

Hi guys, long time lurker here. Last game I played was on monarch and I had little to no trouble beating the AI. But before I move up to emperor I'd like to see what to improve on.

I've seen a few threads were people post their saves for the judgment of fellow peers so I thought I'd do the same. However the save is from late game, and I won a diplomatic victory just a few turns later,(nothing was diplomatic about it). So I went apeshit with the nukes and my people suffered for it, though I bet Ragnars kin did so exponentially more.

I'm using the latest Better bug AI mod in case it makes any difference.

So I'm playing my emperor game as I type this. But I must say things are going badly, in fact I'm feeling that the game is lost.

Does anyone have any suggestions to what I might have done differently? I believe one problem is I started a war I couldn't finnish, and perhaps wrong war target? Stalin had better land, but I decided against it since I have no efficient way to get over to his land pre galleon.

And I can't say that my land was awfully good for my first emperor game with probably 1/4 completely unworkable.

I cant load the save so dont have great idea what is going on. In the early game once discovered was on island with ghandi should have expanded west with blocker citys. Destroying ghandi i think is the right idea and your not too far behind on score. Needed good attacking units when declared cause you have adequate siege. Macemen, knights, rifles, grenadiers building in all citys and then go to war.

Getting tech parity on superiority would be useful too. Through trading and building a good beuracracy capital from turn 1 is how i often do it
