Monarch Training 2

I agree with Keiji. No reason to declare on Aztecs at all. Might as well finish the Germans first. .

OK - Sounds sensible now I have had time to reflect upon it. The reason that I made peace and decided to go Aztecs was my frustrution with my inability to many any inroads at all against the Germans. I spent 3 or 4 turns bombarding them with the Trebs and just managed to scratch a couple of minor military units which immediately recovered. I didn't even manage to knock a single population unit off a town ! I ended up losing a few other units too and I couldn't replace them easily. Also Leipzig didn't help since I didn't realise it was there :) (it was under the FOW when I started my turns :( )

Since our main productive centre was mostly building Banks / Markets we were short of military to ship out to the islands (and even if we had them it was going to take 7-8 turns to get troops there ). That is why I decided to go for the Aztecs - get a foothold on the south of that island , build bucketloads of troops on the main island ,ship them safely over to Tlatelolco and launch an attack from there when we had enough.

We don't have that many troops left on the German island - we are definitely going to need quite a few more trebs / cannon to take out Berlin (unless the next player has a hell of a lot more luck with the RGN than I did !!! )

Perhaps I could set up for an invasion like I did last time, that seemed to work well.

I liked it. I really, really liked it. :)

I haven't looked at the save yet. Will try to do so tomorrow morning (GMT -5) and then post some ramblings before work.

EDIT: looked at Clive's screenies again. Germany has cities off the main island. Therefore, we need 3-4 landing forces to kill them. Although dispersion of forces is usually suicide, this may be the exception. I think on this this and post 10/1 :crazyeye:

Pre-flight Check:
Wake a bunch of military forces that where sitting idly in our cities and
send them to cities to be upgraded as necessary. Switch Water's pass to
worker.

IBT
Spain and Netherlands sign alliance against Portugal.
A whole bunch of units complete in our Cities.

1400 AD (1)
Upgrade a whole bunch of trebs and knights, fortunately it's pretty cheap.
Hurry some caravels, because there don't seem to be enough to transport all
the troops efficiently. Hurry barracks in Rostov.

1405 AD (2)
Pfff, we really have a lot of forces.

IBT
Germany gets itself dragged into the war with Portugal, fine by me :)

1410 AD (3)
Lots of troop movement. Hurry some buildings.

1415 AD (4)
Still more troop movement.

IBT
The Hague deposes :(. Fortunately I moved alot of troops out of the Hague,
but we still lost about 6 musketmen. Btw, the Dutch are in the industrial
age.

1420 AD (5)
Abandon Water's pass after reducing it to pop 3 by building workers.
MM Liverpool to 20 spt and Newcastle to 10 spt.

1425 AD (6)
Our forces are starting to come together. Perhaps I'll be able to kick off
the assault on the Germans.

1430 AD (7)
Nothing much.

IBT
Frankfurt deposes, this is getting annoying.
Arnhem deposes too! WTH!

1435 AD (8)
Last turn of peace. Most of our forces are within striking distance.
Next turn I'll declare on the Germans and make a mass invasion.
No time to lose, the Dutch are becoming too strong for my taste.
We can finally buy magnetism from the Dutch, but I hold for now.

IBT
Fortunately no more deposings.

1440 AD (9)
We try to steal from the Germans to piss them off, but we succeed, ToG is ours.
We try again, and succeed again! Democracy is ours.
Last try..., nothing to steal left and we don't get caught.
Oh well, simply declare on them then....

Unload the largest amount of forces I've ever seen on German soil.

IBT
We lose two units of AC, they were getting obsolete anyway.
A musketman and a cavalry of ours are redlined.

1445 AD (10)
Let's hope I don't mess up :(.
Capture Heidelberg, lose one cavalry.
Recapture Frankfurt, lose one cavalry.
Capture Berlin, lose one cavalry, redline two.
Capture Leipzig, lose two cavalry, redline three.
Capture Munich, lose none.

I'm afraid I neglected to garrison enough troops in Leipzig, so it will
probably be recaptured in IBT. We should be able to take it back
immediately though. Oh, and AK sorry, but I didn't see the point in
waiting any longer.

You're right, Keiji, why wait for their culture to tempt our citizens into treason, wipe them out!

I'm thinking, once we get Germany out of the game, let's just raze all the Dutch cities we capture, or at least all the ones that are a flip risk. We don't *need* more cities. We just need to wipe out some AI's a grab a domination victory before we have hundreds more units to shlep around on hundreds of little wooden boats... where are we in territory size? We need only 2/3 of the world.

got it, in a foul mood, Germans are dust in the wind. Will try to set up for dutch. will probably move troops out of non-wonder German towns and then retake and raze. Intend to spend money on settlers to fill the provinces formerly known as Germany.

@ K - no apology necessary, you already set me up once. Nice job!

The 15th century has ended with the drums of war beating on many fronts.

In the middle of the century the Spanish were properly cognizant of their place in the world and they presented us with their world map and 17g for contact with the other dim bulbs, the Russians

The Germans failed to recognize their end as a people and had the terminity to retake Leipzig and 4 of our cannon with it. No matter.

1450 began with glorious victories for our armies with the reconquest of Leipzig and the conquest of Toledo. Many clowns were employed as a result of parliment's inane Enetertainer Empowerment Act. Indeed twas necessary to increase the luxury rate to 20% to maintain funding for the war effort.

We decide the Ottamans need Democracy and sell it to them for incense in 1455.

Willie the Worthless and Otto von Nitwit sign a trade embargo against us in 1465 as native rebels seize Berlin.

In 1470 Berlin is reconquered. The bastion of Barcelona also falls. Carlisle the city of cowards deposes to the Ottomans.

1475 is glorious as Germany goes kaput with fall of Seville. Isabella is insolent. We grow tired of it and declare war.

1480 continues to demonstrate the divine inspiration of our cause as Santiago and Madrid crumple before our horse.

Emerita resists. This shall not be tolerated. Their futile resitance persists until 1490 when we say adios to siestas. The Clown Empowerment Act expires and we reduce lux to 0%

The remainder of the century is spent preparing to secure Monte's Dyes.

On a whim the FP is being built in Nottingham. The Dutch are insolent, wanting extortionist prices for magnetism and sending forth fleet of privateers in the peaceful English world. The maps tell the story. There are some cannons and horse near Emerita ready to pounce on Monte.

IMO, Monte is first. Then Osman to prevent Siphai (he has both salt and iron). Steal Magnetism from Willie.

Enjoy.

Nice work AK. It seems to me, we've got this game pretty much in the bag. Especially now that we can finally buy magnetism for a reasonable price (around 3000g).

Sorry. RL has been VERY busy, even this weekend. Perhaps I should get a skip? Haven't done much yet. I don't see it getting better until next weekend.

:bump:

This game seems to have gone off the boil a bit in the last week or so. I can't play tonight , but if no-one else can play soon I would probably be able to play (at least) 5 turns or so tomorrow in an attempt to get this moving again.

I'm scrambling to catch up to all my SG's after a busy RL weekend, so I'm happy that Richter is taking it slow :)

Hmmm, Detlef doesn't seem to be very present for a while now. I suggest that we skip him and let Danz take it. I for one would like to see this game get moving again.

Ok, I'll wait until tonight, and when I get home I'll post a "got it", unless Detlef posts one.

1500. Steal from Montezuma, he declares war. Thank you, Monty! Kill 1 musket, 2 pikes, take Tlacopan.

IT. Sink privateer, Portugal/Aztecs sign peace. Lose 1 musket.

1505. Kill 1 musket, 5 pikes, 1 longbow, and take Tenochtitlan. Aztec capital moves to Teotihuacan. Kill 2 pikes and take Tlacelolco. Kill 1 knight, 2 spears, 2 longbows, take Atzapotalco. Kill 2 pikes, 1 longbow, take Xochicalco. Settle Ipswitch and North London.

IT. Refuse Portugal's request for ROP. They're next on the menu. Lose loaded caravel to privateer SOB. Kill counterattacking Aztec longbow, mdi.

1510. Complete JS Bach's. Kill 2 pikes, take Calixtahuaca. Kill 2 pikes, auto-raze Tlaxcala.

IT. Portugal/Netherlands sign peace. Sink privateer.

1515. Complete Forbidden Palace in Nottingham, Smith's in Warwick. Kill 2 mdi, 2 spears, lose 1 cav, take Bapedi (from Atecs). Declare on Portugal. The bulk of our army is already next door, so now is the time.

IT. zzz

1520. Kill 2 muskets, 1 pike, 1 spear, take Teotihuacan. Kill 2 muskets, 1 longbow, lose 2 cavs, take Texcoco. Build New York.

IT. zzz

1525. Kill 1 musket, 3 spears, lose 2 cavs, take Guimaraes from Portugal. Kill 1 pike, 1 spear, auto-raze Sacres, and the Aztecs are no more.

IT. zzz

1530. Kill 1 Portuguese musket.

IT. Kill 1 Portuguese musket. Dutch complete Newton's in Groningen. Warwick will have to switch production.

1535. Kill 2 muskets, 1 spear, 1 longbow, lose 1 mdi, take Lisbon and the Great Wall. Portugal is now an island 1CC, so sign peace, getting Free Artistry in the process. Switch Warwick to Shakespeare's. Rush a bunch of temples in conquered areas to expand territory. Should have done so sooner, we're a 57% so we're getting close.

1540, 1545. No fighting to report. Temples are being built, core areas are producing cavalry and loading them on ships. Cities close to Ottoman and Dutch outposts are loading units on boats in preparation for an assault. We can take the outlying areas and win this game in the next 10 turns. The core Ottoman/Dutch island is probably too well fortified to be worth the trouble, although we do have a stack there that could do some damage. Suggest leaving that stack fortified on a mountain to draw fire while taking all outlying islands and the game.
