think about it-
the mongols are attempting a seige of the single most fortified city in the world at the time, the 12,000 in number elite imperial regiments,some of the best armed,armoured, trained and high moral troops in the world stand ready to defend the emperor, and the empire, as well as thousands of other, standard troops have been called into the city, and supply ships under heavey naval protection keep them fed and happy.
atop the walls, the Byzantines have a huge assortemnt of artillery, and archery weapons to choose from, more then likelly the differnt forms of ballistae, including the western crossbow invented by the ancient greeks in Syracuse would be put to good use shooting off assorted bolts, and javilins into the eneymy host.
three massive defence walls- including walls barring of access from the water- stand ready to defend the city, with all those artillery throwers setting atop them.

Mongolia would crush the Byzantine army of an era! Think about it Mongolians beat the turks tribes, and the turks beat the Byzantines (sacked Constantinople in 1453). Thus I think the Mongolians would beat the Byzantines with relative ease.
