Monty declared war on me?

Hey folks just a quick question.

Montezuma was cautios with me. At the same time he was in a war with Zara Yacob.
He now declared war onto me. That has never happened to me before. How could he declare war on me while he was in a war with someone else already? If someone could explain it to me would be great.

Also looks like my first culture victory on deity is on its way.

Monty is the one AI in the game who is willing to plot war on you while he's already in a war, and throw himself into a two-front war when he's ready to DoW you. I see you refused a demand from him (the bottom -1 diplo modifier), I assume between him starting to plot war on Zara and him DoWing you? Because if so there's your culprit. Refusing to give Monty tribute is is usually what triggers him.

Incidentally, since I see you're using BUG/BULL ("Der este Eindruck zählt", AKA A First Impression Is A Lasting One), keep in mind you won't get the usual warning if Monty starts plotting on you when he's already in a war. Since, you know, he's clearly got "enough on his hands right now" already...

Yep, it's happened to me before with Monty. I was not sure if it was just him though.

Anytime an AI demands something and starts plotting because you refuse, they will declare once the conditions for war are met. Even if they're already in like 3 other wars and your cuir stack happens to be outside their capital guarded by 4 longbows. Normally this is annoying, only rarely dangerous (as they will have already committed their main stack elsewhere, in all likelihood), but It's a good way to take some free stuff (or their entire empire) for basically no diplo penalty if you play your cards right. It's also how I won that Hannibal isolation deity map before t200, by abusing plotting to get AIs to declare war on me when their stacks were already tied up with some AP dogpile nonsense (though of course a lot of luck was still involved).
