MOO2Civ

Hmmm... so apparently the mod will not run on either XP or Vista.... :(

It runs on Vista 64. Now, this is v5.0 (I can't get any more recent version to download, as they always time-out or say "can't finish downloading due to size restrictions" or something similar), but I doubt the more recent ones are any different.

Found an old copy of MOO2Civ5.1 from last year and installed it. Now i have to try it out.
MOO2Civ5.3 still gives the file contains invalid data error message.

Alternate download added: https://rapidshare.com/files/1563590626/MOO2Civ_5.3.exe

EDIT: I downloaded the original file (again) and it works fine for me. (As mentioned, this is the version I currently have installed.)

Still works fine Vista 64 as well (other than the expected install location was different as I don't install games to my C: drive). I appreciate the alternate d/l site as well (rapidshare for some reason still was slow for me---almost an hour---but that was far better than not at all).

:)Finally got MOO2Civ 5.3 to install after i downloaded it from rapidshare,
:cry:New problem when game starts it does not show a planet ( just a ship which can't move)
does research but production doesn't change.

Well, that´s weird... Is your download complete and in the right location? (Btw, the non-moving ´ship´ is your planetary defense unit; it´s not supposed to move unless on or off an Invasion Ship.)

Hmm, looks like it should be OK - except that it isn´t... Not sure what to recommend here... You have had no trouble with a previous version?

I do not really know what I am talking about so this may be of no use to you, but I have just downloaded and installed the latest version. The 1st time I tried it after about 8 turns all the planets disappeared (which sounds like your situation, except it happened for you the first turn). I closed Civ and restarted, starting a new game, and it worked fine for the 2 longish games I have played since. So that may work for you.

This is a great mod BTW, many thanks to the author.

Uninstalled MOO2Civ 5.3 and then reinstalled it, got the same problem again.
played Final frontier - got the same problem
played Final Frontier plus and it works go figuire.

My guess...

If you have BUG installed in your Custom Assets, so it is always present and does not need to be loaded as a mod, then this can cause issues. You can avoid the problem by going into the mod's .ini file (in the folder where the mod is located inside the BtS Mods folder and having the same name as the name of the mod) and changing the value for NoCustomAssets from 0 to 1. This disables anything in Custom Assets when the mod is running. You need to do this because the user interface in FF and the mods derived from it is modified in ways that are incompatible with BUG so overriding the UI with the BUG UI wipes out a lot of things that need to be present for the mod to work.

FFP works in this situation because it isntalls with this value set to 1 (and has merged in BUG so you get it anyway).

If you do not have BUG installed like this, or that value in the .ini file is already 1, then this is not the issue.

Changing the value of NoCustomAssets from 0 to 1 in the MOO2Civ 5.1 ini file worked, am going to try it in the MOO2Civ 5.3 after i instal it again.
will let you know if this works.
thanks for the help!!!

They're not 'broken', BTW, I just downloaded 5.3 on my new PC.

Maybe not "broken", but I'd bet dollars to donuts that they have some sort of cap on downloads. I was never able to download from there, and had to use the rapidshare link. This was after trying various times over at least the last year, since at least version 5.0 (which I got in 2010 but I forget the source).
