More Religions?

that's right. having to gamble when you build recon units hoping that they get mask is somewhat lame. paying to give them CoE ( = mask ) would be another nice perk

All three of those civs have a marksman hero.
No religion gives a marksman hero at present

Objection! :P

Arthendain (RoK hero) is capable of gaining the marksman promotion (this applies in base FFH too.)

which means if you're not one of them, you cannot get a marksman hero.

Objection! :P

Teutorix (Malakim hero) and Gilden (Ljosalfar hero) can also gain marksman promotion (again, applies in base FFH.)

What?

How does that work? I thought Marksman was un-learnable and only available to things that start with it ?

All recon and archery units can gain it if they have combat 4, and you have the precision technology.

One nice fix would be Alazkan having CoE by default at all times. It really sucked when I beelined first fol, then poisons and built him on turn 126 (quick speed). He could kill anything at that point but one little miss-click, declare nationality and it is world builder time. And it is likely you accidentally hit it at least once if you use mirror every turn for the next 200-300 turns.

Actually, the problem applies to CoE as well. Playing Into the Desert with Calabim. I was supposed to use hidden nationality units (nightwatch) to hurt the Malakim? How exactly do I do that if they always use reveal? Any unit that starts with hidden nationality should be able to cast mask.

I'd be fine with limiting this to civs with CoE as a state religion, but I agree very strongly in principle. There needs to be a way to give units a religion, otherwise the CoE bonus to recon units is too micro-intensive. Missionaries can already spread their word to cities, why not units? CoE needs this because units with their religion gain abilities, adding it to the other religions might also be cool, but could be more complex that it's worth.

On the main subject, I don't really think we need more religions. I have no problem with adding more if someone has a cool idea, but there's no gap that needs filling. The emphasis should be on saying "this idea for a religion would be really neat" rather than "we need more religions, so lets come up with some".

Along those lines, I would really like to see the White Hand and the lizardfolk religions added. That would make those civs behave more properly, make AI diplomacy more accurate, and allow other civs to convert to their cause. I agree with Iceciro that a Scions religion would be odd, since the 'god' is a civ leader, but making it an unadoptable (by other civs) religion could simplify a lot of the Scion mechanics.

Is it possible to make a religion, such as the one for the Lizardmen but ONLY have it researchable by them (special civ tech like sea faring, maybe they start with it) but spreadable to other civs?

So if they are not in the game, then that religion can never be in the game. But if they are in the game then that religion becomes a possibility.

Would allow adding some more religions while still keeping the number from getting carried away.

Prehaps for the Cullai religion was given by their special tech (forgot the name) but has a very low if any natural spread rate untill their temple. For the Matazal it would be cool if they had 2 national wonder (one for either religion) and the building of this founds the corrisponding religion. This can be barrowed/moddified from gods of old.
