A story about the new series planned by Netflix, which managed to have its promotional video get half a million dislikes on YT (and 50.000 likes).

I think this show was a bad idea, moreso in this style. What did those at Netflix hope to achieve? :o

I wish all the trollfest and poor debate would stop, but of course it won't. Apparently it is here to stay. I fear that soon the majorities will either be fascist or sjw. Pretty bleak, dear 21rst century people :eek:

-do you think the new Netflix show "Dear white people" was a bad idea?

The trailer left me with no idea what the show is about.

But all the snowflakes in the YouTube comments are just priceless :lol: I think some people need to grow a thicker skin.

Haven't seen it on my Netflix lists yet. I'd be willing to watch and episode or two to see what it's about. While Hollywood and TV-Land are as racist as most other institutions in America, movies and shows can also occasionally be enlightening.

Wiki sez;

Dear White People is an upcoming American satirical television series based on the 2014 film of the same name.

The initial trailer for the TV show has attracted controversy, with many people accusing it of being anti-white and boycotting Netflix for having the series. Series creator Justin Simien responded positively to the boycott, saying it reiterated the point of the series, and brought more attention to the show.

I am totally willing to accept social commentary in the form of a funny sitcom. I am so tired of commentary coming earnestly and seriously that I am really thirsty for something with artistry and humor, particularly in a fictional vein.

I haven't seen the film, but it has been on my "things to watch" for a while. Tessa Thompson (schwing!) and Dennis Haysbert. I don't recognize any of the names attached to the Netflix series.

Nope.

Also, I'm not sure half-a-million "dislikes" on YouTube isn't an endorsement.

Usually likes to dislikes ratio is hugely in favour of likes. Even for controversial material/channels you (at worst) rarely see likes-dislikes being on par with many on either side :D
So i have to suppose that a ratio of 10 dislikes to any 1 like is pretty rare for anything with loads of views :o

Watch Atlanta. That's social commentary as comedy done right. It's outstanding.

Didn't watch the MTV video, certainly won't be watching this, why would I need a black woman to tell me how to be a white man, what's next a gay guy telling me how to penetrate vagina?

Identity politics is getting more and more cringe-worthy and the backlash (including the election of Donald f-in Trump) seems to have not swayed the check-your-priv faithful one bit.

In general, anyone telling me what goals to set for myself is automatically gonna get ignored. We're all on the same subway car here, just be respectful and give up your seat if someone is elderly, disabled or looks tired af.

I can be pretty certain on my commute back to the Bronx every evening that none of the folks on the subway with me are worrying about how white folk should be talking/thinking.

The seriousness with which you treat the issue, Narz, makes the comedy that much more appreciated.

It would be comedy if we weren't all getting played against each other while the rich get richer in our constitution is used for toilet paper.

While mofos are whining about privilege maybe we should further investigate height privilege as well. Tall people certainly have scientifically demonstrated privilege. I think it's high time those overgrown bastards started keeping their heads down.

It pisses me off because while these morons are playing Star Bellied sneetch, actual human equality is growing more and more distant.

I always had the impression you were tall. Maybe it's those old Chess pictures.

IMO, a reading of American (and Euro) history suggests we have waves of equality adjustment. The Abolitionists fighting slavery. The Suffragettes attaining the vote. The Civil Rights era. Today, we have the LGBT movement, including the attainment of same-sex marriage. It's an uneven, messy, two-steps-forward-one-step-back kind of process, but it's historically visible. Don't you think?

I'm all for civil rights. But I don't like being told how to think and feel (and make goals) based on my race.

They already had that. It was called Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.

Yes, I agree. Perhaps the hostility many feel for the SJWs is that they are so preachy. They demand you comply with their world-view, rather then teach or persuade.

Okay, what exactly are "SJWs"? The people I find preachy are vegans, anti-vaxxers, and evangelists, not to mention Harperite Reformacons and the Trump apologists/propagandists infesting the CBC comment boards.

From Wiki;
"Social justice warrior" (commonly abbreviated SJW) is a perjorative term for an individual promoting socially progressive views, including feminism,civil rights, multicultralism and identity politics. The accusation of being an SJW carries implications of pursuing personal validation rather than any deep-seated conviction, and being engaged in disingenuous social justice arguments or activism to raise personal reputation, also known as virtue signalling.

Others, such as you mention, may also be preachy.

What does "demand" actually mean, in this context? They aren't exactly holding a gun to anyone's head.

So promoting women's rights, civil rights, multiculturalism, etc. is somehow a bad thing? :huh:

The world has gone insane. Sometimes I feel like I've woken up in the wrong universe, when everything is backward. I've been accused of promoting Sharia, just because I don't have a problem with Muslim women wearing a hijab, or being against the crazy travel ban Trump put in (just a few minutes ago the evening news feed carried a story in which the son of Muhammad Ali and his mother were detained and interrogated - apparently being born in the U.S. isn't good enough anymore).

People on this very forum have called me an "extremist" for standing up for women's rights and freedom from religion. Apparently I'm supposed to flip out because I live in a city with a diverse, multicultural populace... and am supposed to freak out when different languages are spoken in my presence. OMG, they might be talking about ME! :hide:

:rolleyes:
