The best part of Morrowind Comes Alive (MCA) is the random bandits/street thugs, as well as effectively making the smuggler's caves respawn (as well as being more challenging). MCA allows some much more replay value to the various caves and ruins, as well as allowing Vvardenfell to be the the land of adventurers and rogues it is described to be with it being opened up by the Empire. Combine MCA with Necessities of Morrowind for great immersion.
I got Morrowind maybe two years ago; last time I played was spring 2013 but someone mentioned the game in a Civ IV vs Civ V thread and now I've got the itch. I play with a few mods that I got from BTB's list: http://btb2.free.fr/morrowind.html
Mostly the game balance ones because I'm running the game on a computer that was made around the time original Morrowind came out. I've got a chronic case of Restartitis where I've created many characters but never actually finished the game. Finishing Morrowind being a relative term, but I usually only get halfway there.
I've finished most things in the game individually, but I can never bring myself to join any House but Telvanni, so I've never done the Redoran or Hlallu quests. The Telvanni are just so cool!
Apparently they hope to reach 1.0 with all original Morrowind engine features implemented this year already.
The Morrowind secret Bethesda doesn't want you to know: OpenMW let's you play MW on mobile with android, apparently Bethesda threatened with a lawsuit if they use that fact at all for PR. Probably horrible to play with a bad control scheme, but still.
Yeah, OpenMW might open up so many possibilities in the future. The Morrowind community has remade an engine basically 1-to-1(and add some technical rendering upgrades and stuff) in a not too long time for a volunteer project, and you have projects like Tamriel Rebuilt (who have said updates will be more frequent nowadays and are planning to transition to openMW only eventually) that have run since before the game released.
Only downside for me is that I like my eyecandy, and it will probably take a while to get MGE XE functionality and such in OpenMW, though it being built into the engine rather than "hooked" on to it should make it massively superior and more flexible when it comes.
There are enough passionate and dedicated people to the game, I honestly think it will still be developing in 20 years.
