Most Annoying Installation Problem EVER

I uninstalled Civ3 and PTW a while back, but I remember there was some kind of problem and I had to manually delete the files to free up diskspace, now... I want to play it again and I'm tryint to install Civ3 but when I run setup.exe it just keeps telling me that its going to uninstall Civ3, which isn't on my comp. I tried deleting all files related to Civ3 in the registry but it does nothing at all. I'm thinking of manually installing Civ3 and then just installing PTW 'cause that works, but I don't know how to extract the .cab files.

If anyone has someone kind of solution to this, PLEEEEASSSE HELP MEEE

What happens if you just let it think it's uninstalling, and then once that process has finished, reinstall?

Otherwise, make sure you got all the references in the registry editor. If you search for Infogrames and Firaxis, I think you'll find all the registry keys eventually (but make sure you don't accidentally delete keys from another Infogrames game, of course)

[Disclaimer: Don't mess with your registry unless you're prepared to see your computer blow up ;) ]

I believe the crucial ones are:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Infogrames
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Infogrames Interactive
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Firaxis

but there may be more depending on your operating system.

Actually I solved my problem, I went back several months in the old threads apparently some one had that problem before.

Isak what u suggested is on the right track, but I tried it before I posted here, I deleted all those, and nothing happened.

What I found in an old post is someone got a registry cleaner called "RegCleaner" u can download it on tucows.com or download.cnet.com. Just find anything related to civ3 and delete, its extremly simple and u'll also find alot of junk that u wouldn't want on your comp anyways.
Good Luck with that.

I haven't tried Registry Cleaner, but the Registry Editor actually has built in search capabilities too :)

But I'm glad you got it to work.

RegEdit does have search capabilities but it doesn't give u alot of details and doesn't categorize the stuff u find, once u try a registry cleaner u'll understand what I'm talkin about.

I had the exact same problem and it drove me mental. I went through every folder i could think of looking for any reference to civ3 and i eventually found it. It was in a folder called uninstall information or something like that. deletew the civ3 file and it should install no problem
