Most dystopic world in fiction?

Did you actually read it? Something serious must have happened in Canada as well, given the narrative in the appendix of the book. And keep in mind that unlike the movie, the novel tells us nothing of Offred's ultimate fate. In fact, in the novel we never even get to know her real name.

I read it. The epilogue shows that Gilead eventually came undone, unlike Oceania or Eurasia or Eastasia.

the Matrix seems like a pretty lousy place. But don't worry, Keanu Reeves will save you, and he wears sunglasses.

Dystopic? Hmm...fantasy-wise I'd have to say the Prince of Nothing series, it's like grimdark on steroids. Sci-fi wise...I don't really know, there is so much to choose from.
