Most Influential Video Games

Gran Turismo? What would it teach you? That cars which collide suffer no visible damage?

Theres no way that VG charts site is accurate, theres just no way a videogame has sold over fifteen million, last time I checked the top was either WOW or Super mario 3 at 10.5 million.

Way off on those. Super Mario Bors 3 alone has sold 18 million, Pokémon Red, Blue, and Green over 20 million, and the bundled game, Super Mario Bros., over 40 million.

DDR and Guitar hero don't teach you anything, unless it's that they can't make you dance or become a rock star by playing those games.

Also the NES sold over 60 million units according to Nintendo.

Also, over 20 million Wiis have sold (almost as many as Gamecubes) and according to wikipedia;
Wii Sports (17.85 million)

Tetris (33 million) (Gameboy)

According to IGN, Gran Turismo 4 drills you on the physics behind cars and you get to learn about cars from every time and place. And the Resident Evil series teaches you valuable survival skills that you can't learn in school.

ive only played resident evil 1 and 2 so it must be the other ones that teach survival skills. only survival skill i learned in those was "learn how to move and shoot so you dont get eaten by zombies" (cant tell you how many times i died in those games because you have to hold still while trying to fill them with lead)

What the hell...? Who's the audience?
Don't underestimate the 10-14 year old girl demographic.

This teaches you more about surviving a zombie attack.

Agreed.

Although I've never played RE, I'd be curious as to know WHAT survival skills it's supposed to teach.

I miss the original 'Adventure'. But perhaps it was too unknown to be an influential game...

IMO that game was based on another game that had the same name. It's just that the original was a text-based adventure while the one you refer to was a graphics-based adventure.

Some schools/colleges have physical education classes based on DDR, and Guitar Hero melded a solid peripheral to a concept that just about everybody likes.

but its not about being revolutionary, its about being influential, or else games like system shock or WOULD be on there. WOW should be on there becuase A)its the highest selling game of all time, B)its the stereotypical model of HOW to the old well without being revolutionary and C) I think I heard that last week the FDA officailly classified it in the same field as columbian hard crack. I dont even play it, but its influence is definately far and wide.

It's not even the highest selling MMORPG ever, and not even on the PC!

Swein, please don't quote a post from a while ago which was already discussed over and also causes you to have three posts in a row. Thanks.
