I tried to scary myself by watching The Ring last night, and it turned out laughable, although not as silly and laughable as the Exorcist. (Nothing is funnier than seeing 2 grown men sprinkling water onto to a screaming girl and yelling "the power of Christ compells you" :D ) The girl is possessed by some demon, so what? What is so scary about that?
So, what in your opinion is the most scary movie? For me, the Shinning is probably somewhat scary. Since I have never been scared by a movie, this is probably the msot scary for me.

For me it was the original 'Dawn of the Dead' I was 7 when I saw it and had me scared for weeks.

Considering it still gives me the worst nightmares, Id say the movie IT, by Stephen King.

I thought 28 Days Later was pretty scary, but no film has ever really scared me. Surprised me, of course. Then again, I was never traumatized by a movie at a young age. However, an X-Files Episode managed that, but it didn't last long.

Beetlejuice

Was young when I first saw it and had nightmares for weeks. Of course, when I grew older I've watched it multiple times now and I don't find it scary at all :P

On a side note, I'm going to see Hostel this friday so I'm hoping that'll scare that bejesus outta me.

Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark is the scariest movie I ever saw. Of course I was 5 when I saw it. It is one of the movies that I remember most. I have not been scared by another movie and now the movie doesn't scare me anymore.

The Grudge turned out to be really scary, and Ring was also good. Shining had a good grim atmosphere (though the parody in Simpsons was excellent :D ).

When you grow older everything becomes mundane. I think that it is classified as a symptom of impending senility.

So true.

I still think that The Omen and The Shining is pretty "scary".

Some Japanese horror movie (I think it was called "Audition" in English) I watched a few years ago scared the crap out of me.

The Grudge was also pretty scary although parts of it were pretty humerous.

Now when you watch it, its more comical than scary though (intentionally though, of course) :).

I would have to say Watership down... its not necassarily a scary film, but it's made me terrified of hares ever since I saw it...

JAWS .... gave me slight phobia to swim in the sea...

Oh yeah... you just get that slight nagging feeling in the sea after watching that movie.

Actually... that really scared me too, as a kid :/.

I made the mistake of seeing 'The Ring' while I was high as a kite. It was three years ago and thinking about it still gives me shivers...

Marry Poppins terrified me. When I hear the words, "Spit spot!" I turn into a quivering jelly.

I would say of the films ive seen its often the japanese, or the films adapted from japanese films that are the most scary. evil dead would rate high on my scary list, and blair witch (i like pyschological horrors).
No film has has had me truely scared, except for jurrasic park which i watched when i was 7 and didnt like the raptors, but unsurprisingly thats lots its scary edge now.

The first time I saw John Carpenters The Thing it frightened the life out of me (I was maybe nine or ten).

I watched it again the other night and despite being made in 1982 the special effects are still some of the best I've seen. IMHO the script and cast are first rate too with a great depiction of paranoia and suspicion

Ya, that's the one for me. Not so much the watching of it, (I laugh every time I watch Copper get his hands bitten off, or hear Blair's rant in the Radio Room.) but the concept of it it just freaky when you sit back later on and think about it.
