Most Underrated Game Ever

Maybe I'm just not used to many people owning strategy based PC games at my school, (noone knows what im talking about @ school when I mention it... )

Mafia (PC version!!!). Many people played that game until they reached racing mission and stopped playing because that mission was too hard. But the best part of the game started after that mission. I admit that Mafia is weak in some parts but the good parts easily overcome the weak parts.
Especially the story is great and ending is very good and unusual.

Nowadays you can get Mafia for 10 euros so GET IT!:goodjob:

Any game made by Paradox is horribly underrated

Specifically, Europa Universalis II and Hearts of Iron II

I agreed with you, i kept telling those pixes over in Europe that they are doing it wrong or not enough time effort to improve the game. I still have HOI and HOI2, infact second version is alittle better but still suck!

I think everyone I know owns a version of this game :p

Yep i have it and still a great game plus xpac as well TA:Kingdom. Too bad we havent seem much going on since they made them.

Shadow man: Some proper scary and twisted parts. Awesome game
Shogo MAD: First and only FPS I completed on medium level without cheating

I'd have to agree but my vote goes to a somewhat recent rereleased game last year for the PC called "Total Annihilation" I doubt many people here own this game! :p :goodjob:

Total Annihilation is very good indeed, but not the most underrated game of all time. The hardcore RTS'ers still play it like StarCraft did not exist. Go figure...
I my opinion: Space Rangers II: Dominators... The biggest (as in size) game ever? RPG/Space trader/RTS/Action/Adventure-game. Try it, goes for 5£, and you get Space Rangers on the same DVD!

Deus Ex.Yeah JC Denton kicks yer arses.

Deus Ex. is considered the best rpg/fps of all time (how many is there?), hardly the most underated game. And yeah, Deus Ex rocks, but the second one was a big disappointment (aiming? No way...).

Europa Universalis II.

Not only because of the game itself, which is very good. but because of the way Paradox developped the game.

I was a beta tester. We got a patch per day, even sometimes several patch a day, with minor correction, but also changes in gameplay, improvment, etc.
They really listened to the players and try to make the game as good as they good. Of course, it was not always possible du to programming constraints, but they really tried all they could.

And the other beta testers were really cool guys.

For me, it was a wonderful experience, that I never found in another beta test.

Herzog Zwei - Sega Genesis

First RTS ever, came out during height of Street Fighter II, pre-sonic.

cartridge fetches $25 - $45 on ebay

can't say that about many other games.

BTW I own Total Annihilation, and Kingdoms.

TA is not underrated, starcraft is overrated... :P

Very True. Paradox is a company that listens to their fans and that makes the games like Eu2, Hoi2, vicky etc so good games and mostly bug free.

I wish Firaxis could do this too :( .

Nexus: The Jupiter incident - Gamerankings gives it 77% overall, I give it a 90%. Pretty, intuitive, and challeging.

Silent Hunter 3- Excellent game, though sold only 30,000 units. But that's not stopping the devs from making another one :D

Uplink- Most have never heard of it. Its a hacking game, it is excellent.

Darwinia- From the same people who made Uplink. Something fresh and original. The enviroments are very dream like, I found myself staring out from the coast out to wards the digital oceans and into the blackness.

Commandos 2 kept me occupied for hours, I'd buy it if you have the chance (at £2-5 its one of cheapest games around)

There are a few fps/rpg games, but Deus Ex isn't the best. System Shock 2 is.

I don't think deus ex is an underrated game, considering it sold well enough for a sequel. Another underrated game, and I know it sold pretty well, is amplitude, the sequel to frequency. They're just darn good games.

Yeah, System Shock 2 is good too. ;)

And speeking of Silent Hunter III, it's a good game, but had a couple of problems at release. Most of them are fixed by the official patches and the excellent mods out there (real-uboat anyone?). For any navy-fanatic, like me, it's an excellent buy!

Final Fantasy Tactics...extremely overlooked, even by Final Fantasy fanatics. Most complex story of the series IMO, and the most difficult Ive played so far.

Secret of Mana for the SNES deserves a mention from me, considering thats my favorite game of all time :p I dont know how popular it was at the time, but I dont think it was a bestseller.

Also, Dragon Quest games in the USA are underrated. I loved 7, but I heard so many complaints about the length of the game...the length of the game is what kept me hooked! I loved playing a game that took 100 hours to beat JUST the regular storyline part!

Come to think of it, Wizardry 8
Never heard people playing that game, at all.

Well, if it helps out I still break out graph paper and play Wizardry on my SNES from time to time. I just got back into Bandit Kings on the NES this week with 3 friends. hehe.

Does anyone know a game called "Arcanum: Steamworks & Magicks Obscura"?
It is an RPG you can go through and choose good or evil. You also have to choose magik or technology, hard to balance the two as they are like polarities in the game. I don't think I have ever seen anyone else that plays this game. Although it got PC game of the year in 1998? by PC Gamer. Even though the game starts off the same everytime, there are so many routes to go, you will rarely go the same direction even after 20 games. Especially if you RP through the whole game rather than trying to obtain every quest. (Too many to do them all in 1 game anyways, some botch others and such)

Also 1602AD, along with 1503AD.
And "Rock n' Roll Racing" on SNES
"Combat" on Atari (Still dont get why this hasnt been remade decently yet.)
Super Smash Brothers N64 (Not Melee)

And for my #1: X-com: UFO defense. Terror from the Deep. Apocalypse.

Arcanum ties with my number 1 but dunno how well it is known, this is my first VG forum I have visited, mostly I play MP or SP with friends in RL. Very rarely venture off into the masses. Well, never until recently.

I think first X-com wasn't ever underrated and same for Apocalypse. Apocalypse got pretty damn good reviews in many magazines (what I know) and was sold nicely. Well to be honest I don't know did that sold so good but that's the impression I got.

Turn-based/real time game was very fantastic work. I mean it was really great work how they changed UFO after little disappointing Terror from the Deep and I'm really glad that they really got balls to change ufo so much. The best thing was all the corporation stuff and possibly to raid and loot all thing you wanted and to see real alien world.

Now Terror from the Deep was from my point of view a bit of disappointing. It was customers rip-off since only change was that it happened under water. IMO it deserved to get low-rated reviews.
