Most Underrated Game Ever

Arcanum is indeed a great RPG, and one of the few RPGs where being evil is actually feasible. There's just something cool about trying to persuade someone to give you information, failing horribly, and then killing the person, conjuring his spirit, and get the information you need without trouble. Oh, and tell him how you're going to use that information to kill everyone he held dear in life... :D

Sacrifice is also a very underrated game. In my opinion it's the greatest RTS of all time, with its fantastic(then) graphics, and it's unique playstyle of casting obscenely powerful spells, summoning and commanding weird creatures, and gather souls. Nothing gets your adrenaline kicking like Sacrifice, which is usually not typical of an RTS.

Also, FAHRENHEIT is a recently released game, but I doesn't appear to have sold that well, and few people seem to know it. It's an adventure game, but it doesn't restrict you the way adventure games usually do. You have to make a lot of moral decisions, sometimes very quickly, and your decisions affect the game rather drastically as you go. It's really an interesting, and very different experience, compared to more conventional games.

I think first X-com wasn't ever underrated and same for Apocalypse. Apocalypse got pretty damn good reviews in many magazines (what I know) and was sold nicely. Well to be honest I don't know did that sold so good but that's the impression I got.

Turn-based/real time game was very fantastic work. I mean it was really great work how they changed UFO after little disappointing Terror from the Deep and I'm really glad that they really got balls to change ufo so much. The best thing was all the corporation stuff and possibly to raid and loot all thing you wanted and to see real alien world.

Now Terror from the Deep was from my point of view a bit of disappointing. It was customers rip-off since only change was that it happened under water. IMO it deserved to get low-rated reviews.

I am very happy to see that X-Com received good marks in the public. I honestly dont know too much about how the public views games. From my immediate area, if it isn't a FPS it is going to go at the bottom of the list. This is the first time I have seen anyone who knew what X-Com was. I loved the X-Com scenarios thrown in on CIV 2 by Microprose. Ah.. Microprose. *Hides stiffy*

I agree Terror From the Deep was the worst idea ever. Is the human race so stupid to expect incendiary weapons to work under water. Why did they have those on there? Havent gotten to Apocalypse yet, saving it for a rainy day. I have found a semi-sequel put out by Cenega & Alter called UFO Aftermath. It is pretty cool although X-Com has a better Geoscape gameplay. Merging these two would make for an awesome new X-com.

Hehe or go through life as an Ogre and not know WTH your talking about half the time, much less know the consequences to saying it when everyone hates you anyways. Or be a thief and rob everyone blind. My halfling got more xp in town than in combat... I actually hated having to go on quests with him. :P
I havent played the other two you mentioned yet, although the names I recognize as games I have considered buying. I may have to consider it more now. :scan:

Herzog Zwei - Sega Genesis

First RTS ever, came out during height of Street Fighter II, pre-sonic.

cartridge fetches $25 - $45 on ebay

can't say that about many other games.

BTW I own Total Annihilation, and Kingdoms.

TA is not underrated, starcraft is overrated... :P

I used to play Herzog for hours on end, truly a classic and definetly underrated.

I thought MDK 2 when it hit for Dreamcast was an underrated game. Graphically ahead of its time and quite original in it's story telling. Not to mention the gameplay was fast, unique and action packed. I actually feel the DC had a huge library of great games that were for the most part underrated.

I also loved Cossacks the RTS for PC. First RTS to boost huge, huge, huge armies. I think if was highly underrated because the content was 17th, 18th century history and graphics were a touch of a drop off from other games on the market. However IMO the gameplay was way in-depth and strategy was pretty solid as opposed to typical RTS rush techniques.

XCom Apocolypse was very underrated by the XCom community. For some reason, they didn't like the pausable real-time combat. I absolutely loved it.

System Shock 2 I would consider a spectacular game. It's my personal favorite game ever made.

But you want to know what's really underrated? Great old games with graphics that are crappy compared to graphics of today. For example, Master of Magic, Jagged Alliance 2, Master of Orion, and Colonization. Some people actually refuse to play games if the graphics look too old. Some other people will negatively view a game if the graphics are too old. In my opinion, those people are crazy.

It's hard for me to come up with a truly underrated game. The best I can think of is Pharaoh, the city building game.

I would love to see Jagged Alliance 2 with Silent Strom engine :D Kind of renewal JA :)

Albion is another great RPG. I loved the storyline and especially the setting. It completly engrossed me!
Edit: i can't even find a website! Here are some screenshots.

'Star Control 2', laughed so much I bit my tongue.
'Gothic 2', there is a Europe, and they make some great games.
'X2', extra points for the worst cut-scenes ever created.
X-ComTerror from the Deep? Killing my first Lobster Man with nothing but Spearguns and Dye Grenades was a priceless gaming moment. And, lest we forget Anita Thompson, who single-handed blew herself and half her crew to pieces with one of those alien Sonic Roundthings, before leaving the ship. Ahh, memories.

Ahhh i remember "harvesting" items and corpses from an alien base repeatley. (Without completeing the mission) Making a huge bucketloads of money

Then pissing of the aliens and having my base annihilated in successive waves of attacks

Sacrifice, a hybrid rpg/strategy/action game. It features you as a wizzard that cast spells, collects souls and summon creatures to fight for you from the souls collected. Reminds me abit of magic carpet actually. Another game not mentioned often is silent storm, it is a tbs game featuring WW2 soldiers and giant death robot, very beautiful with ragdoll effects, shoot a guy with a hvy machinegun and he flies, ninjas, fully destructable enviroment and even UFO. X-com games were never under-rated, everybody has played them!

Planescape : Torment without any doubt.
It received great critics, but was barely sold. A shame.

The most underrated game in history, by far, is Chrono Cross. Look it up on Gamespot and they will say it is amazing. However, I don't come across anyone who recognizes it's true beauty, and everyone really should play it at least once.

I dont think Chrono Cross is underrated,I've seen too many people praise it and be proud of its ownership.

Silent Hunter III now thats an underrated game, but a really great one.Sinking Aircraft Carriers has never been so much fun :)

Trackmania and Trackmania: Sunrise are pretty underrated, especially in the States, where practically no one has bought either of them.

I played trackmania and it was class and only cost £4!
Underrated games for me include:

Guild Wars: Much better graphics than Wow and it's free!!!! (well u gotta buy it)
Monkey Island series: Hours of fun
Black and White
Armored Core II (PS2): Seriously good giant fighting death robots game (and 2 player!!) that was way ahead of it's time

I don't know about the most underrated of all time, but the most underrated game I own would be State of Emergency from Rockstar. The reason it was underrated is because everybody was expecting it to be the "unofficial GTA4." When it turned out to be something completely different from GTA, people got all pissed and just labeled it as a crappy game.
